Just watched the full interview on Hornets Player. He comes across as a very level-headed, modest and intelligent young man. Also, he said that before he signed he called Tom Rosenthal (who he knows from Belgium u21s) who only had good things to say about the club. I'm still getting over the fact we paid £6 million for a 19 year old but he clearly has a lot of potential and definitely seems to have the kind of character to work on it...

It is a shame and his interview was rather saddening. :( However this is football and it's a business. The money the Pozzo's have gained from the loans and transfers will offset some of the new incoming players who they deem will keep the team up this season.

I like the sound of that. With Berghuis and Diamante on the bench and Jurado loaned to Sheffield Wednesday.

On my top trumps he's got:

    Physical Strength - 9
    Special Powers - 4
    Speed - 7
    Agility - 6
    Intelligence - 6

Overall, not a bad signing, but I've have preferred the Silver Surfer.

He's still extremely raw but he's got all the tools you need. Some people will compare him to Benteke but he's a different player. On a technical level, he's light years ahead of where Benteke was at his age. I also think he is faster, however he lacks (for now) Benteke's power/strength. But as you can see, he's got a cannon of a shot and an excellent header. And he has pretty good dribbling skills for a big guy.

Now, the bad. Club Brugge's medical staff has been working with him ever since he got promoted to the first team in the summer of 2014. It almost seems his body is growing too fast or something, because he can't play a full 90 minutes. He just can't. He can go about 65-70 minutes, max., and then it's either cramps or an injury. So it's hard to get any kind of consistency out of him, and I think the coaching staff grew a bit impatient these past weeks because of his lack of progression.
He's also got some mental issues. He gets discouraged when things don't go his way, and I don't mean like for an entire half, but more like a couple of plays or a couple of referee decisions. And once he gets the feeling things aren't going as he wants, he becomes useless, which is extremely frustrating for the rest of the team/the fans/the coaching staff. Also, he has looked less than motivated in a lot of games, even the one at Man Utd a couple of weeks ago when he got subbed on. I even think his performance in that game was the final nail in his coffin as far as our staff/board goes, and they decided to let him go if any good offer was going to come at that point.

So, to recap, the kid has got huge potential, but also lots of physical and mental issues and he's going to need plenty of guidance.

Very interesting write up. Clearly he isn't the finished article if he was then he would be signed by a bigger club. Think he will be eased in to start with. It's really down to the coaching staff and manager to get the most from him.

Now he just needs to learn Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Austrian, French, Nigerian, Dutch, Swiss German, Cameroonian, Swedish, Greek, Algerian and Lithuanian - and he'll blend right in.

Interesting stuff. I know nowt about Bruges but assume our whole set up is light years ahead of theirs, and that his weaknesses are already known to us such that the backroom resources will kick in early on to support him in whatever he needs off the pitch to ensure he delivers on it. I also imagine the experience and quality of the players around him will teach him how to carry himself now he's mixing it with the big boys. Great talent by the sounds of it, I hope we can help him deliver.

I'm not overly concerned about a lack of maturity in a 19yo. That will either come or his career will go no where at the top level. His choice really. The remainder are things that can be worked on.

By far and away my favourite comment that I found on the Club Brugge forum was along these lines: I don't understand this move. He has moved to a team that plays with no strikers. Ok, I have only seen the Man City game but what position is he going to play in this small team that doesn't play with forwards? Central midfield?.

Come on, own up - which one of our disgruntled fans has registered on their forum and knows a healthy smattering of Flemish????

Ah ok. Was just wondering if your friend had written it in a blog or something, in which case I would have sent that link directly onto him. I did read that last line, honest! Thanks again Smudger, very informative read.

Hate to put a dampner on things but I follow a belgian journalist on twitter and he is normally very informative and knowledgable of anything to do with Belgian football - I'm not sure how to inbed tweets but he had this to say:

'Oulare is not even ready for Club Brugge's first team. Crazy!'
    https://twitter.com/BelgoFoot/status/638647055603400705

'Martial, Oulare.... #epl clubs - have so much money - now throwing cash at potential in hope that, like throwing mud at a wall, some sticks.' https://twitter.com/BelgoFoot/status/638650893873872896

And then to answer the question 'What's your opinion on Oulare mate? You got anything I can read about him?' the response is 'JOKE ALERT: Oularé reminds me of a young Romelu Lukaku but without the technical ability. '
    https://twitter.com/BelgoFoot/status/638721572304482304

I've never seen Oulare play and seems promising, but I regularly read Chaomans work and he's often very accurate.

Made up his mind about a 19 year old who's played one year of senior football? Venting outrage on Twitter? This guy is Watford fan material IMHO.

Not taking it as a given, just thought I'd share a usually informed view who I'm sure has watched a lot more of him than any of us!

The Pozzos don't pay £6m for a teenager if they haven't got the potential to be **** hot. This guy can say what he likes because at the moment all we've bought is potential, but I hope over the next few years Obbi sticks two fingers up at this guy.

I dont mean to sound flippant or funny I really dont - I've never seen the guy play

But for all the comparisons with Benteke reading your write up he actually seems a lot like like Balotelli

  34. Just wondering about where the official Under 21 years start from. Is he young enough that the next three years will count as under 21, and will he therefore be counted as Home Grown on maturity.

    Just thinking...

  35. Malteser

    Malteser Squad Player

As if PL teams don't throw money at potential..it's hardly new. The bigger clubs are even paying big bucks for 12-15 year olds.

The journalist has every right to an opinion and to be respected, but his tweets sound mildly xenophobic, as in 'the big bad English and all their money' etc.

Scouts from all over Europe have been watching this player over the past few months and while he may still be very raw, he has obviously got something.
