I'm not sure what the panic is. We have been without a manager / coach for 4 days, you would think it is months. The players won't come back for another 6 or 7 weeks and the window doesn't open till July. Most of our targets would have been identified and agents approached. We have a couple of weeks before we need to appoint someone
Agreed however whilst other teams are strengthening ie Newcastle getting Tammy Abraham from Chelsea on loan (one that i think we should have moved for) we dont know head coach ,system preference of player etc ,always ideal to conduct business early as possible then settle into a pre season . Hard to plan anything when you don't know the head coach's wish list ,style etc. Pundits say play off winners are at a disadvantage for starting their prep late , come next Monday reading or Huddersfield going to be in a better position ie knowing who their gaffer is! I get Gino has to get this call right ,but he has to do it in days rather than weeks imo.
Defoe is on for £65k a week, three year deal. Paperwork still to go through. Nect Tuesday is the signing date. A gamble for AFCB, but a worthwhile punt.
According to BBC Sport we haven't approached Silva with any offer. If Gino wants him he need to act now before the eagles swoop.
Monk could be interesting, he's a disciple of Rogers total football Swansea were very decent in his first season
Resign from where? Genuinely interested why you'd quit your job if we had Allardyce as manager. Seems extreme s'all.
Can honestly say that other than Schmidt, I have been non-plussed about every name we have been linked with. Don't get the fuss about Silva whatsoever. Wouldn't be hugely excited, but if we want a quick appointment, we could do worse than Garry Monk. But I repeat, I wouldn't be at all excited by the appointment.
What a strange post? Out of all the clubs in England, we're probably one of the few who are set up in the way where our transfer plans are not heavily disrupted by not having a manager. So there's no reason for us to rush at all?
Get a picture of Monk and our mascot on some merchandise. Can't wait to see Harry-Monk all over the official Watford FC underpants in the club shop window.
On a serious note , I'd prefer Monk to Silva. More EPL experience , had Swansea playing some tasty football , bit unlucky to get sacked , proved he's still got it by getting a sh1t Leeds team very close to pay offs . More than Silva has achieved. Winning the league in Greece in a one horse race , coming third with Sporting in a 3 horse race , getting Hull relegated .
I'd quit my interest in attending our matches (and my current involvement with the club) for the duration of BFS's (or, as I'd prefer to call him, BFC's) involvement. I can't stand him or anything he stands for. Doesn't seem extreme to me.
I like Garry Monk. There, I said it. Not necessarily for us this time around. But I just like the cut of his jib ...
I actually liked the original joke, and I thought my light hearted extension actually enhanced it. However you feel it is necessary to ridicule and insult me for doing so; it goes to show what a sad individual you are
I like Howe. A lot. I've got nothing in particular against the Muff. But you have to say that's a crap piece of business. Forget all that financial fair-play, level playing-field stuff. That is a piece of business financed by another Ruski oligarch **** who nicked a load of wealth off his own people and now has a plaything in the Prem. for a bit. Just like the A. **** at the Chelski.
Surely it's financed by the £120m they've just got for this season combined with the minimum of £100m they'll get next year....?
I think he generally impressed at Hull, but then I can't get around the fact that his team collapsed at home to Sunderland when they still had a shot of staying up, then shipped 11 in two games. So yeah, he could be turd.
Silva joined Hull 3 points behind 17th placed team, and ended the season 6 points behind 17th placed team. Nuff said.
I don't see the problem in people turning their noses up at a manager whose sole speciality is keeping clubs up, like the owners, maybe they have aspirations beyond just staying up? He does what he does extremely well, but I think we want to aim slightly beyond his skill set.
The advantage Silva will have with us is that we will start on the same amount of points as every other team and have a far superior squad to Hull. I hardly think you can say he got Hull relegated, theu were not 17th when he took over.
That is not more than Silva has achieved. Getting Estoril promoted was a huge achievement (then keeping them up!). Being the first team to win at Porto for 5 years. Going 3 years without losing a home game. All of these are bigger achievements than almost getting Leeds to the playoffs.
Not sold on Monk in all honesty. Cant help but think he would be a completely underwhelming appointment. There are question marks over how good Silva would actually be but he atleast got Hull fighting. Would prefer Schmidt over the pair of then
If I were to order preferences: 1. Schmidt 2. Silva 3. Pellegrino 4. Monk 5. Ranieri But number one excites me a Schmidtload more than the other four Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk
Monk ahead of Pellegrino, but otherwise I agree. Here's a left-field thought which is bound to be howled down. Pardew always does well in his first season, and cocks everything up second time around. Since our head coaches only last a year at best, we could do worse if all our main targets turn us down (which isn't unlikely).
According to wholly unreliable Twitter talk Silva has agreed a two-year deal with Palace. I'd imagine the next stop will be Pellegrino unless we increase our offer to Schmidt. Can't see the Monk rumours being true but it wouldn't be a bad appointment.
