This thread was busier after a game when we were boring against Southampton and playing 4-6--0 at City I think today was a fantastic result and Jurado was not as bad as people are making him out to be. Its true that he never looked like scoring or creating much but he kept the ball and showed good technique which is vital in a team who are winning and looking to hold onto a lead. We really could have been 4-0 up at half time and im not sure if it was our brilliance or Newcatle's ineptitude because its true that no-one except City has looked better than us in our games yet. It can surely only get better with Berghuis, Ibarbo, Diamantai yet to settle in. Even Holebas has hardly played yet.
Right on. But does Deeney feel this way? I sort of fear for him a bit. He's scored 60+ goals in the last three seasons, so I can't imagine he'll be satisfied just to settle into the provider role.
He's the captain of the team. Whilst his ideal scenario is to score goals, I believe he will be of the opinion that the team comes before his personal achievement. As that's what captains do. Just like when he got some player who doesn't play for us anymore to take a penalty last season instead of taking it himself.
Haven't managed to watch much of the last two games, but sounds encouraging. There are definitely three worse teams in the league than us and I think we probably have a top ten defence based on the games I've watched so far. Glad Abdi seems to be doing well and saw a few newcastle fans saying Capoue is exactly the sort of player/signing they should be making!
Yea but if we're winning, we're sitting in the top half of the Prem, he's play well & getting great reviews....I'll think he'll be able to live with that.
I was in the Newcastle end today with my Geordie family sitting on my hands. Our away support sounded great from my seat. Well done guys.
It's because there's more up for debate. More people complain about x, y and z. People then reply saying they're wrong, then more debate insues. After a game like today everyone throws up their praises and that's the end of it. No room for debate today, we were great and got the win we deserved.
Some random stats... 1- only 3 teams have conceded less than us so far. Tottenham , Man Utd and Man City. 2- Of the 6 teams we ve played so far.... ....2 are currently in top third of table ( City , Everton) ....2 are currently in mid third of table ( Swansea, WBA) ....2 are currently in bottom third of table ( Soton, Newcastle) 3- At our current points per game ratio ( 1.5 points per game ) we would end up with 57 points at end of season. 4- Only Colbeck made more tackles than Abdi today 5- 7 of our starting eleven XI from today were Watford players last season. 6 - If Steve Maclaren sorted out his comb over he would look 70% less of a ****.
Phenomenal win..one point to raise Prodl was tugging Cisses shirt for the attempt that Gomes scrambled back to save. Was that a penalty?
In all the match reports I've read of the game including the BBC, he's been described as a collususes, as terrorising the Newcastle defence, as having a fantastic game, I think the BBC even have him as MOM in their report, so although he in sure would love to be scoring he is still making a fantastic contribution and being noticed for all the right reasons.
Not being sarky but not sure what sort of reply you're after? These things come down to what the ref sees as much as anything. Two games in a row now Prodl has exhibited the trademark of a top class defender by successfully impeding an opposition striker just when it looks easier for them to score and doing it in such a way the ref thinks it's 50/50.
I didn't pick it up live yesterday but was clear on MOTD. Totally agree that these things are 50/50 but that bit of luck is, in my view, a major point in the game. Going one behind would have made it a real uphill task Agree on Prodl, and all our new recruits, they are slotting in better than u could have hoped for
I agree and think he's been very clear on his opinion on players who don't want to adapt for the best of the team. Add that to the fact that he's probably on £40k a week by now and I think we have a very happy player, goals or not. He knows the goals will come if the team keep creating 15 shots a game.
Can we take a moment to appreciate how spot on my writeup was. Cheers. Watford win and clean sheet - lose Watford win - win Under 1.5 Newcastle goals - win Pointed out Janmaat as the biggest threat - scored.
Probably because as you say it is endemic so refs may end up giving 6 penalties every game. He needs to be careful however, other refs will have taken note even if yesterday's didn't.
At this level most players are very good. Even Newcastle individually have some great players with top class pedigree. Ayoze Pérez, Florian Thauvin, Georginio Wijnaldum, Daryl Janmaat and a few others are really talented players who have performed well at other clubs. The difference at this level is the ability to work as a team, having good team spirit, a coach who is tactically astute and players who are able to carry out the manager's message out on the pitch. We had those qualities yesterday while Newcastle dont look like a team. Deeney has looked great in the last two games since the tactical switch and that has contributed hugely to our last two wins. That is more important than Deeney scoring and us not winning thats for sure. The last two games Deeney has looked like scoring as opposed to the first 4 games so im sure he will start scoring soon.
I'm looking forward to Berhami vs Costa
watched the whole game as been making a new highlights video, i paid particular attention to jurado. his set piece delivery still needs improvement, but it is easy to see how much a key part he plays in the team. i swear i dont know what some are watching.
Can you post a "will he/won't he" saga about whether you're going to post it on Youtube or Vimeo or whatever. Thread wouldn't be the same without it. Cheers
I thought that was Jurados best appearance for us yesterday, but even so when we were looking to break he slowed the play down massively when ideally he should be looking to take players on or playing the ball into dangerous areas. The Ighalo chant after the final whistle was quality hearing it echo around the empty stadium.
