We just took a punt on a young bloke with a whole bunch of raw talent but a limited and conflicting track record. He's 22 years old. So what were we all like when we were 22? A bunch of nutters mostly I'll wager. And some of us haven't changed a whole lot in the intervening decades.

So it's unreasonable to expect a young bloke of 22 to be the finished article when it comes to maturity and the seven figure annual salary (more money than he knows what to do with) will probably make it harder rather than easier to grow up. I hope we have psychological experience at the club to assist that process and to point him in the right direction re. training and turning up on matchdays. Look how gauche Rooney was when he arrived on the scene from a sink estate in Scouseland. Now he's an elder statesman of the game. So our new (potential record) signing will need handling properly.

This could be the best bit of business ever. It could be a disaster if we actually sign him then it all goes pear-shaped. It could be something inbetween if he does OKish with reservations and then another club takes a punt a.k.a. Balotelli.

Let's just hope that if he's gonna jump off rooves in his spare time then there's a bit of water underneath to cushion the fall. We can do without another Prem. fractured skull.

There seems to be a question mark over his attitude, but swapping the San Siro for Vicarage Road seems like he's got his head screwed on and is not a Big Time Charlie.

Pereyra, Success, Niang, Zarate, Cleverley......now these are really exciting players.

I think this will give everyone the boost we needed to really kick on now in the second half of the season...........and it's not been lost on me that one of Niang's big reason for joining was Mazzarri!!

 

On a serious note I like this signing. He brings the pace, power and flair which we so desperately need and has the potential, if he can get his head right and grow up a bit, to be a very good player indeed.

At one stage Madrid fans were talking about him and Ballotelli being their strike force for the next 10 years. Both have gone off the rails but both are still young and could come good. It's a no lose gamble for 3 months.

When/if we buy is the big decision but we will have a chance to see what he can do and where his head is before then.

In a world that allegedly saw a £30 million bid for Deeney and £38 million bid for Ighalo after one good EPL season, what would this guy be worth if he can produce the goods for a couple of seasons with us?

 

What am I saying? We're lil'ol' Watford and we just secured the services of a potential £16.5 m player from A.C. Milan. Not a complete stab-in-the-dark from Carlisle for £160.5 k. Whatever colour shorts the opposition turn up in they'll be turning brown pretty quickly if this guy and Success get to take to the field together.
