If I'm reading this correctly, every week Super Pundit Mark Lawrenson has predicted us to lose. After getting 4 out of 5 wrong he's sticking to his trusty formula and now thinks Newcastle will double their season goal tally against the team with the 4th best defensive record. What a canut !!! http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34260436
Has no one mentioned Merson yet? ... Same thing, predicted 5 losses and has done so again. We'd still be under the radar even if we'd won the title .... "well I never saw that coming!"
I like Merson's predictions this week. He had a pop at us for not having a go at Man City, then this week has said we look good when we have a go at teams, even against Man City.... He also says Bournemouth have been 'in' all of their games including their defeats so will beat Sunderland. We're playing a team equally bad as Sunderland and have been more than 'in' all of our games except the City game, yet we're predicted to lose. I haven't seen any real reasons given by pundits as to why Newcastle will win so I'm assuming it's just because we're a newly promoted side so surely Newcastle will break their drought and put a few past us.
You mean Garth Crooks' list of players that have scored that week plus a random goalie who kept a clean sheet?
My favourite bit about Merson's predictions this week is that barring about 3 games every other game is going to end 2-1 to the home side. I think his first six predictions were all 2-1 ... I started to wonder if someone at the Sky website team had had a funny turn.
It's the first time I've read Merson's predictions and they are absolutely brilliant. You'd think that they might have edited them in some way to make them more coherent but fair play to Sky for allowing such nonsense as this to be published on their site: Spurs should have more points than they have, that's true, but they haven't and there must be a reason for that. I'll go with Liverpool, but I could easily be sitting back on Sunday thinking 'why didn't I go for what I fancied with a draw?' Man United keep winning, but I just don't see them doing it here. They lost at PSV... West Ham have plenty in their side. You take away their two results against Leicester and Bournemouth and they'd be right up there. Was that the pressure of the fans? We don't know. Chelsea's record against Arsenal is fantastic, they just don't lose to them. I know Arsenal won in the Community Shield... As for these pundits predicting us to lose every game, I'm quite happy with them doing that - it makes it all the sweeter when we don't!
Can't see the lowest scorers getting past one of the best defences. Will be 0-0 or 0 - 1 to the Golden boys.
Its funny how nearly everyone ( including Lawro and the bookmakers) has Bournemouth as comfortable winners against Sunderland. I think its evenly balanced - although Bournemouth should be slight favourites as they are at home. Sunderland just drew at Villa and lost narrowly to Tottenham. Bournemouth have looked pretty poor in the last game and a half since Max Gradel was injured.
Even if Muff lose tomorrow and next week, and if we win tomorrow and next week the pundits will probably still predict a Muff win in a fortnight against us. Some may, however, plump for a draw if we're lucky.
Lawro is King Of The Pundit Muppets. Paul Doyle in the Guardian shows he knows a thing or two more in his preview of tomorrow: "Judging by form, you can book that late slot on Match of the Day already. Newcastle have not scored since the opening day of the season; Watford have scored once since then. Watford, at least, have looked dangerous and coherent – a proper team on the rise – and a narrow away win looks a distinct possibility. Because Steve McClaren’s side are floundering. The manager, without a league victory so far, has been hampered by the suspension of Aleksandar Mitrovic and a slew of injuries and could be without up to seven players this weekend. He could do with Florian Thauvin being on song – and Papiss Cissé being on the bench. "
I agree there are more important things to be concerned about. It's no real surprise that not every pundit does a little bit of research, but it would be a pleasant surprise if some of them actually make half an effort in their reasoning, particularly the BBC as I pay for it through my TV licence.
Surely he never will though. We are tinpot Watford in his eyes we are worse than all the prem teams and the worst of all the promoted teams. So we will lose all our games.
Bearing in his almost uncanny ability to get absolutely everything wrong, I don't think we want him to predict a win for us. At one point the BBC were doing a head to head results prediction competition between him and a guest of the week. The guest won almost every week. It was truly laughable.
I'd like to say an accurate and sensible prediction like the one quoted would be easy to come up with, but that would fly in the face of all the evidence. I seriously think most pundits do absolutely no research whatsoever. They just turn up, shoot their mouths off based on the current vogue teams, and comfortably coast through on the back of the fact they once kicked a ball for a living for a few years. What Doyle wrote shouldn't be the exception, it should be the norm. It's not that he predicted us to win; if he had written the same things but said he fancied Newcastle to finally pull their socks up, it wouldn't detract from the fact he's done his research. We all know that results don't always follow the facts, it would just be nice if the "facts" weren't completely made up each week...and that goes for every team, not just us.
Well Lawro has currently only got one of our results right so far, that being the oh so difficult one of us away at City. If his run continues and he continues to predict us losing we'll be in a Champions League spot by Christmas!
The thing about the whole Lawrenson (anyone who calls him Lawro is a big a **** as the man himself) prediction thing is that it's now a parody of itself. Football365 take the **** out of it weekly, there's a website that keeps track of how inept the man is. He competes against and loses to 'celebrities' who claim to have no football knowledge at all. If you think he, or anyone else for that matter, watch enough games a week to be able to judge what the scores of a game are based on their recent performances then you are ****ing insane. They catch the highlights, watch (or commentate on) the live games if they aren't busy and base their judgments on a combination of that and any historical bias they may have. Anyone who consistently gets wound up by a part time pundit needs some help IMO. If a random person came up to me and said my team was ****e, I'd chuckle and carry on walking.
If I knew nothing about the promoted teams then I would predict Watford to lose every week. After all Muff won the title and Norwich have Prem experience whereas Watford have 320 johnny foreigners that I've never heard of If I was paid for my predictions then I would do 10 minutes worth of research to give a valued opinion
I'm bitterly disappointed with the season thus far...I haven't seen any half and half scarves for sale. I was sold this Premier league under false pretences
