The trouble is, they won't know we welcome them on this forum unless they've already come onto it and read this thread

It probably helps that Watford are nominally my 2nd team (father-in-law is a Watford season ticket holder, wife was born in Watford general and brother-in-law still lives in Croxley Green. I also lived just up the road in St Albans for a few years so Watford were my local club for a while), so I've had a sense of some guilt over this whole episode.

Some of my fellow blues might be a bit more disrespectful about the whole thing, but I couldn't really ever hate Watford (although my father-in-law's jaw dropped when he realised his daughter was seeing an Everton fan. It took less than five minutes for Andy Gray to be mentioned).

I get that you all have an axe to grind with Everton at the moment and as a result I accept that some of you will resent me posting here. If it ever becomes the majority, I'll happily stop - not here to argue, just to provide a bit of balance if I can where I think you're missing it because of the yellow-tinted glasses

Frustratingly, the pedantry over grammatical issues is one of the main attractions of the board here, and I have fallen foul of it at least twice already.

  7. I'm sure that you actually mean 'grammar rules'.

As a rule, grammar rules should always be grammatical, but never grammatical rules.

I thought the 'grammar rules' required a reference to Neil Hart's daughters.

  11. Grammar rules means rules about grammar. Grammatical rules are rules that are well-written and grammatical. This means you can have grammatical grammar rules. In fact, grammar rules should always be grammatical...

  12. My speculation regarding Sliva's "claim" for outstanding wages is that he will never make it, despite what has been said in the press.

If pushed to do so, I believe, and stated it a long way back, that Sliva would risk being counter-sued by us, were he judged to have breached the contract by downing tools. That could mean he would have to pay back the wages we paid him during the period we turned to shyte under his guidance.

I think Gino would take Sliva to the cleaners, then leave him in a Stanley park shyte house with his head stuffed down the pan, his bum painted red, a picture of Dalgliesh on one cheek, Keegan on the other, and Richarlison's Everton shirt poking out from his turd slot.

As would I and have done in this thread. I have just noticed a slight change in tone now that they have Richarlison and Silva. If it’s just me and my imagination, that’s fine. Certainly was t meant antagonistically as I have been vocal to others that articulate opposition fans are to be encouraged.

  14. Grammatical rules. An excellent sentence.

  16. I don't want you posting on here, but if it ever gets round to the majority not wanting you, I will change sides and back you all the way.

There's some ******* on this forum. And I'm definitely one of them.

The word ‘grammatical’ has two meanings, 1: pertaining to grammar; 2. well-formed: in accordance with grammar.

I would suggest that your version and mine are equally correct, given those two meanings.

Actually, he was right. It is 'less' in this case, as the reference to time is of a single quantity of time, but the 'less than' might refer to a measurement of time that is not entirely minutes. 'Less than' might, for example, refer to 4 minutes and 46.3 seconds.
Four minutes, three minutes, 2 minutes are all fewer than five minutes. 4 minutes and 46.3 seconds is less than five minutes.
An Everton supporter can be right - who knew?
All we now need is for someone to call 'time' on this debate.

Consider my cap duly doffed, sir, well played.

One never ceases to learn from this forum. Our team (group?) may indeed be doomed, but we are all so much wiser after a summer without any blasted football to distract us. If only HB1, Reids etc, had been here to enjoy it with the rest of us.

    Gracious of you, sir.
But are we doomed? I feel a smidgen of optimism about the forthcoming season. Getting £35oooooo+ for a player yet to realise his potential (and off our enemies, too) might have helped.

Could we consider us forumites as the Group?

We are clearly not a team as we don’t (knowingly) wear identical clothing.
