Marco Silva Tapping Up Complaint

Discussion in 'The Hornets' Nest - Watford Chat' started by wfcSinatra, May 15, 2018.

  1. Yep. But we looked more scared with a fit team under Sliva than we did against a similarly decent Citeh team with Mazzarri's crocks..

Mazzarri's game was described as the most humiliating and unforgivable **** ever on here, then we run scared of Citeh's reputation under Sliva, and all of a sdden 6-0 is heroic endeavour.

I'm no fan of Howling Mad Maz, but like I say, I'd take him with a fit team over Sliva any day.

    And so it begins...

Marco Silva has gone all Mourinho-lite in begging Everton suits to buy him a central defender. “Since the first day if I want to put one central defender in the game we don’t have any,” he bleated. (The Fiver)

    Sacked by Xmas.

I am keeping a watchful eye on this

The interview comments in the last week suggest to me that he's getting a little bit impatient at the lack of progress on a centre back and a centre mid (we all are to be fair).

And then this evening Everton go and agree a deal for Bernard - all well and good, but it's hardly a priority.

Fair analysis but you’ve airbrushed Rachel R out of the whole debate.

TB, as it stands, you’re our marquee signing this summer.

With Geri D, of course, but you do have more stamina.

"Marco Silva has said new central defenders have been a priority since his first day as Everton manager and it is essential one arrives before Thursday’s transfer deadline, reports the Guardian.

Newcastle's Jamaal Lascelles has been targeted all summer by Everton, who have retained their interest despite being told the 24-year-old is not for sale. The club also enquired about Barcelona’s Colombia international Yerry Mina.

“It is not the best thing to do to wait until the last days but the market is really difficult,” said Silva."

That was from the bbc yesterday, note that Newcastle have said Lascelles is not for sale yet Everton persist..

Ah come on, you're not really suggesting that every time a club says "this player is not for sale" that the suitors should just move on?

Everton need to realise that sometimes no means no, otherwise they will end up with no new defenders when the window shuts.

And sometimes it doesn’t mean no. It means give us more money. The distinction comes when you look at the owners. Gino said no because he realised the disruption it would cause and genuinely thought we were on to a good thing with Silva. £10m-£15m wasn’t worth it to him. Ashley will sell any player if the price is right.

Clubs usually persist when told ‘no’ because they have got it ‘unofficially’ that the target in question is keen on the move.

    Go with youth!

Vorders has become a bit of an odd one.

All moving parts have been replaced & so technically none of her still exists.

    Not ageing with dignity.

I'd guess its because you've been paying over the top prices this summer that a simple "not for sale" seems to get a bigger offer and quickly. Your owner is too keen and the other clubs know it.

Again, the owner has nothing to do with it

The Director of Football spends the money the owner allows

We paid well over the odds for Richarlison, no arguments there, but realistically the only way Watford were ever going to do business with Everton would have been by doing just that, so if they were intent on Richarlison over other targets (open to debate), I see the logic to a degree

Other than that we've signed Lucas Digne for £18m from Barcelona - based on current valuations flying around where players in The Championship are going for over £20m, I'd argue this one was very good value

After that we've signed an 18 year old keeper from Arsenal for a nominal fee and are about to sign Bernard from Shakhtar on a Bosman free

I don't think we've done too badly so far, though we will most likely pay a big fee for a defender in the next 24 hours or so (all things being well)

So, the way the end of the window worked out, Silva didn't have any cause for complaints in the end. In fact he praised the "fantastic support" he had from the owner and Director of Football in the transfer market at his press conference earlier

Will park this for now and revisit it when we inevitably fail to fulfil his expectations at some point

Fair enough. On paper your window looks very strong. You should be aiming to out muscle one of the "top 6"

Urgh why is this still in the main forum? Fed up of Everton ffs. Let’s just get on with it and let the league get on with punishing them already.

The good news TB9, after 4 games Everton remain undefeated.

The bad news, without your new star Brazilian forward who was a silly boy, you managed just ONE shot on target at home and failed to beat .....

The murmurings at the back of the Park End have started .....

Yeah, wasn't great. Richarlison was a huge miss (he's become vital to us very quickly), Bernard wasn't fit, Walcott went off injured after about an hour and Lookman had barely trained as a replacement as he spent most of the summer trying to force a move to Germany.

Huddersfield and Bournemouth were 4 points dropped in total.

On top of that, our injury list is ridiculous already - think we currently have 12 of our first team squad unavailable.

Expecting a slow burn to be honest, but then I always was.

Richarlison earned a penalty and scored 2 in Brazil's 5-0 over El Salvador last night. One of the goals was a "worldy".

    I wonder if there's a correlation.

Few of our players have praised the "high intensity" training they've been doing since Silva arrived - that makes me wonder if these injuries are more than a coincidence

I always believed he would become a star on the world stage but would never have achieved his potential if he had stayed. The sale and pricing was a good deal all round. Hopefully there is a sell on clause.

I don't think he'll be at Everton long. Personally I think he's going to end up being one of the best players in the world. Of course if that does happen, Everton will received a sum that will make the £40m they paid us look like small change.

It's early days for this kind of talk, but (a daft headbutt aside), he's been excellent in his short time here.

If he carries on the same sort of form, I wouldn't expect he'll stick around more than a couple of years. It's all about whether or not you can keep up with the player's ambitions and we've not been able to do that with the likes of Lukaku etc in the past, so I don't have much confidence we'll do the same here.

One thing I am pretty convinced about though - I'm already fairly sure we haven't overpaid for him. With the market we are in, I reckon we'll get to the end of the season and most will agree it was money well spent.

Richarlison transfer has worked out quite well for both Watford & Everton by the looks of it (early days mind), who'd have thought? I assume we've got a nice juicy sell on fee for when he goes to PSG for £80 mill next Summer.

No doubt that he will be pushing for a move to a big club if his international form continues in this manner.
