The team is looking better going forward (maybe not second half yesterday), can't wait for Jurado to come back into the team and play closer to the strikers like Abdi has been.
Stonewall penalty, honestly didn't tgink I'd see even the most biased fan say it wasn't. The only question was whether it was in the box which replaysshow it was
Can't help but think that the Leicester fans are getting a little carried away. No way will they finish top 6, very ordinary from what I saw yesterday. The gulf in class between them and us and Arsenal and Man City is about the same, I would not be surprised if we finished the season next to each other in the table. A lot of uncharacteristically poor passing yesterday (in the second half), Cathcart and Watson being the principal culprits; also think Iggy needs to think about being less selfish occasionally. If we had been on our game like against Stoke 2nd half or the whole of the West Ham match, we'd have taken them (easily). As it was, 2 Gomes mistakes did for us - they didn't threaten much apart from those. Vardy's run is a statistical blip - I think a lot of 'wiser' heads can see this which is why Woy is being so guarded about an England role for him.
Both were stone wall penalties. Gomes didn't even complain he was just praying it wasn't a red card (which it wasn't)
Absolutely!! What Gomes should have been doing was trying to convince the ref that it wasn't inside the box, instead he just stood there leaving the ref with no choice.
both penalty decisions were as easy as you can get from a refereeing perspective. Agree that the in/out box for leicesters was the only debate but think the ref got it right. think we were fortunate not to lose Gomes for games and think if Leicester had not won i am sure they would have questioned why it was not red. tbh - i hate the penalty plus red card. it is too severe and a penalty and yellow was a fair outcome. not too disheartned - another day their keeper makes a mistake and we take 3 points. Not much in it - hopefully Gomes has got his 2 mistakes out of the way in the same game. Hope he stays confident
I actually think Gomes did the right thing after the incident. Referees call is final. Referee then had the decision of red or yellow. By not protesting and not giving the ref flak, it may have influenced the refs decision to not show the red. Actually thought the ref had a reasonably good game. A narrow loss with the keeper having a rare off day, against a team in form like Leicester (I think that's 47 points taken out of a possible 63 in league now?) really isn't a disgrace. Another day it could have been 2-2.
Agreed. I think the difference between us and Spurs are that Spurs are very expectant and get on players backs easily. If we were Spurs we'd be calling for a new keeper, but instead most of us are saying he's class and has won us more points than he's lost us, the manager and players are supporting him well. He should bounce back from it with no problem.
Take out a defensive midfielder, play with 2 out and out wingers, or try 2 attacking midfielders behind either TD or OI. I don't think our attacking set of players is much below half the other teams in the league. Of course all of this opens us up for bigger defeats, but when you're losing worth the gamble.
I kinda agree with you. We have not had to chase the game too often this season. Man City.. Well the game plan was just to defend from the outset. Going a goal behind it looked very unlikely we would change any way. Game plan was always limitations to the scoreline. Against Bournemouth we were lucky, Boruc gift to equalise. Against Palace not much time left to graft a come back. This was the first game since Bournemouth really where I think we were forced to make offensive changes and there doesn't seem much of a threat as a result. Instead it looks more disjointed, poor shape and even more no end product. Don't get me wrong QSF is a great manager but when he is a goal down or more and the chase is on, I think he has so far lacked ambition to really shake it up.
I love the way that people are still talking about tactic changes when Flores has been playing one tactic all season expect in our 'already lost' game against City.
The assistant referee didn't appear to think so, he only signaled a foul he did not put his flag across his chest to indicate a penalty, I am fairly certain that the ref was not in a position on say if it was inside the area or not plus it should never have got that far as the ref played on when Morgan fouled Ighalo in the far corner,
So you don't think the contact and Vardy warranted a penalty but Morgan using his strength against Ighalo was a foul. Bias much or just clutching at straws
If you read what I actually said, ie the assistant referee did not give a penalty he signaled a foul but not a penalty, if the referee had given a free kick against Morgan the ball would not have been cleared to Vardy, you have a strange take on using your strength and pushing someone over. Bias or what.
I thought Ighalo dived. He has a frustrating knack of throwing himself to the floor under the lightest of pressure from an opponent when he can't see a way out or a pass he can make.
Whether the linesman gave it or not it was a penalty so not sure what point you're trying to make there and yes I'd say your definition is very different to mine. Very weak play by Ighalo
Jamie Vardy looks like the bloke who's banned from your local ladbrokes for punching the machine after losing £20 on roulette.
Tactic is a very broad term. We may have played a similar formation, but I'm sure the tactics out forward for the Stoke game were different from the ones put forward for West Ham.
After looking at their goals again, there are one or two things that come to mind. The first one is all Gomes' fault they say. Well yes, but what a crappy feeble clearance by Ben Watson straight to the feet of their scorer all on his own on the edge of the area. If he could have sorted his feet out quicker he might have powered that straight into the back of the net again. But the saviour is Abdi who comes flying across in front of him and stops him getting his shot away quickly. However Abdi then stops and stands and watches as he shoots. I think he's expecting Britos to get the block in, but Britos seems to think Abdi's going to do it. Both end up watching him get his shot off completely unchallenged. As it happened it was a little trickler that Gomes should have saved, but no thanks to the defensive errors. I made Britos my MOM and he did generally have a great game. However he gets left for dead by Vardy with that long punt forward for the second. We know Vardy's got pace, so why is Britos stood the wrong side of him? I reckon Gomes thinks the hoof is stronger than it is and it's going to bounce through into the area for an easy keeper take - that and the fact that Britos is trailing in Vardy's wake is why Gomes comes bounding out. When Vardy controls it (excellently) it's too late for him to retreat again and he goes for it.
Not overly concerned with this loss. I only watched the first half and I thought on based on what I saw that a draw would be a fair result, so left the house in a pretty chirpy mood. Shame about the final result but I think all teams will have an off day - Bournemouth had a gazillion corners, shots on goal and off goal and managed nothing, Citeh failed to destroy a pretty average looking Villa, Liverpool probably deserved at least a draw from Palace, it goes on. As above, dust ourselves off and go again. A nice 2 week break sitting in a pretty decent position. Hopefully all our players come back injury free and I can seriously see us getting something out of Manure.
Ighalo dived. Pretty sure he threw hinself on the floor 3 other times too. Not impressed. Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
just reading through the comments on various websites about our game, and the praise we get from the lesster fans is almost universally positive. There are a lot of comments which seem a bit OTT in their praise if anything Here's a typical example: About the game, honestly the difference was the goalkeeper. Sounds rough to say, but Watford were verrrrry good. They will be totally fine, good football good in transitions and not easy to get at. Best team I've seen down Filbert Way this season (missed the Arsenal game) and will be fine. As I say, difference was the keeper. Vardy. Legend. Finished the penalty, but his touch was what won the penalty. If he didn't have the skill to bring that down it would never have been a pen in the first place. Gomes should have been sent off, but it seems churlish to say that considering the victory. I'm drunk, we're joint top of the league and I met some great Germans; I couldn't be happier.
For me the only difference between the two sides was the fact Leicester came out quicker in the second half and we just couldn't get going after conceding. Leicester have been on a good run of form and you can see why they have easily come back from two nil down .Im still positive that with Jurado coming back we will begin to look even better.
Leicester fan in peace. Just wanted to say, you were one of the better sides we have played this season, especially defensively. I think you guys will stay up comfortably as you are more organised then most of the dross in the league. One thing I would say, is I think you guys struggled when you went behind? It's something we suffered from last season, Pearson in alot of games set us up to defend and when we went behind it was difficult to transition to an attacking mindset. Hopefully this isn't too much of a problem for you guys, and the January transfer window will be an opportunity to bring in more attacking flair, particularly on the wings? Anya has caused us problems every time we have played, but Fuchs dealt with him rather comfortably... Think you guys could benefit from a classy winger that wants to get balls in the box & create chances. But yeah, great game and I don't think you guys have anything to worry about relegation wise
My seat was right near the edge of the Watford section, a few rows down from these Leicester muppets. I was also subjected to endless abuse from the bony chav and his pals and a vociferous group of fake middle aged hard men a few rows further down. I realised they weren't all there when they worked themselves into a frenzy when the helicopter landed and their "considered" opinion was our team had been "disrespectful" by continuing to warm up on the pitch. Cue the "w*****s" chant. There was a 10 year old Watford fan just behind me who had to soak up the abuse. I agree, the police reaction in collaring the Watford fan was nonsensical. I can only assume they have a lot more stewards in the gap between the fans when they get visiting teams with more aggressive fans than we have. As for the game, decent first half performance, but the errors killed us in the second half. Leicester were far quicker and more direct when attacking than we were and I was disappointed that we failed to apply any real pressure over the last 15 minutes.
Well done Lesta, good to see one of the prem little guys kicking ar5e Didn't think there was a whisker between the sides myself, on another day we might have won 2-1 Only Citeh and Ar5s so far have stood out as next level quality
Just back. The back four looked nervous all game - misplaced passes, sliced clearances etc. The midfield were v quiet. The front two worked their socks off against a solid defence. Gomes is allowed an off day from time to time. The first was plain schoolboy error stuff, the second understandable. Our support was subdued. QSF delayed in his subs. As expected I got pissed off with the Lesta happy clappy stix. All told, a miserable day out.
Just read the match report in the Sun (they give them out for free at my local shop) - there's a double page spread covering our game in the football pull-out and a full page piece on Jamie Vardy near the back. Neither piece mentions Gomes' mistake. All that's said is a tiny piece in a 'Too good, too bad' kind of section in the corner of one of the pages. Don't think his bad game could have come at a better time - in the long-run, we might actually benefit from Vardy's goal.
Btw I'm not sure if this was mentioned on this thread (I didn't go on here until the next day as I drove back and then went out) but I've gotta give props to the two idiots who decided to drive a car at a minimum speed of 10mph down a crowded road (and I mean crowded) immediately after the match, blasting their horn in hope that we'd move out the way because we haven't got a death wish. I did decide to play chicken for a second before realising my legs are too precious to me as they were not willing to stop. From the bottom of my heart, I wish that driver gets the plague. There were kids in the road but that wasn't enough to make the driver stop. At that moment I was grateful that at least Herts Constab can do things right.
