Yup. I can understand the odd first touch passing move breaking down in the early days while players get their drills sorted but time and time again they’re fluffing simple unchallenged passes to one another.
It's not really though. I think it's been gone over on here already many times in recent seasons, but there appears to have been absolutely zero correlation over the years between cup results and subsequent league results. None. Don't forget that our PL collapse came off the back of a big cup win. The only significant knock-on effect this game will have on the league games is that Perica is now suspended.
It's not just the defeat, it's the stench around the club. We were a complete disgrace last year from top to bottom. Arrogance and poor transfers from those that run the club, negative approaches from head coaches, shameful performances from the players. Relegation hurt because it was so avoidable. But most people came to terms with it and the appointment of Ivic and the promise of seeing exciting young players made everyone quite excited. And then the first team sheet dropped and it's got worse and worse. We are ruining the chance of Ivic being a new broom and instilling his winner's mentality. The club is rotten at the moment. We obviously can't shift the cowards from last year so they're just picking up their wages whilst a talented coach is left to try to forge a team out of scraps. Four games into the season and we have no available left back, no competent strikers, and can't play our coaches preferred formation because one of the only two players that are competent to play out wide is needed as emergency left back. My one positive from tonight is Jerome Sinclair. He's been the butt of jokes on here for years and he's not even a Championship standard player but at least he didn't stop running tonight and did a few good things.
Need to send Murray back. Don't want to see him play for us one minute more. Stevenson is a bad joke. Pussetto way, way too lightweight. Sinclair flashy but very ineffective. Dawson added weight to the theory that he is refusing to play... Garner looked like he had quality again, but slightly green as you'd expect. Penaranda tried hard and took his pen well. Possible place on the bench for Sat? Agakwa looked fairly OK but surrounded by a sea of shyte. Newport pressed us hard constantly and we couldn't cope. We barely got out of our own half in the first half. Someone else said it was one of the worst WFC performances they have ever seen and me too. I can't think of many worse.
Kids played alright at Oxford, let down by the more senior players, but bailed out by Bachmann. Kids for the most part here today showed they're nowhere near good enough to be playing in the league, but you'd hope to see something from the likes of Murray, Dawson and Sierralta, but we got nothing. Clearly we need more than what we've got available at the moment, these players on the sidelines, keep them, sell them, I almost don't care at this stage, but do SOMETHING, because at this stage it'll get to deadline day, they'll be sold, we won't have anyone to replace them and be left with a load of duds...
I'm not pointing the finger just at you for the highlighted comment as others have a similar negative view at this stage, but its too early to panic. Our 2 league games, and the league is the priority, our record so far is Win, Draw. Early days. The transfer window hasn't closed. Some players will inevitably leave following relegation. And there have been reports of players the club has been interested on bringing in and talks are ongoing. The side will be unsettled and a bit inconsistent until the transfer windows closes and Ivic won't know what he has got to work with until then and when key players are back from injury so patience will be key, and naturally he will be talking to the club of what positions he wants covered so its a case of waiting to see how it unfolds. After that will there be a more realistic perspective on our chances of a top 6 finish and chances of promotion.
Quite, the carabo cup has traditionally been used as a sort of reverse shop window for us to see who amongst the fringe players we want to keep. Naturally those picked resent having to play against a tinpot team in the arse end of nowhere on a Tuesday night and turn in a display to reflect their feelings about it. As you say, there has never been any correlation between our performance in this cup and subsequent league games, if there had been we’d be non league by now.
"No correlation between cup and league results" so we can bury our heads in the sand and refuse to accept the laughable state of our squad and the way in which this club is being run. The desperation to ignore the bigger picture and grab at the air for imaginary positives is truly astonishing.
There are no positives, or negatives. It’s the carabo cup, it literally means nothing and hasn’t done the entire time the Pozzos have owned us. Tell me the season it was ever any different?
Of course it doesn’t “literally mean nothing”. That’s nonsense. Look at the clubs who have won it in recent years. It meant plenty to Bristol City when they got to the semis a couple of years ago, knocking out us, Palace and Utd and running Citeh close.
But it's not about the cup or even the result, it's about the bigger picture of the club and the squad right now. How is this so hard to understand?
The worst thing about tonight is Perica being sent off, as I'm assuming it means an immediate ban which makes him unavailable for Saturday. Furthermore as it was an elbow it is probably a three match ban as well Therefore it looks like Deeney will need to step up to plate for Saturday, unless of course the mythical Suarez finally puts in an appearance
"The bigger picture" is that the league cup is a pointless competition which it's a blessing that we're out of and the chances of much hangover for Saturday is slim given how few first choice players were involved. Yeah we were mostly crap, but on the flip-side that might have given Vlad more of an idea which players in the squad he will and will not want to have to call upon in any way during the league games. The window is still open. Another thing, given that you are always negative, in all circumstances, it is surely impossible that you yourself are capable of seeing "the bigger picture" - because occasionally things might have some positives. Whether today was one of those examples or not is irrelevant as far as you're concerned because you're never capable of looking any further than your own persistent gloom and mini-meltdowns.
I couldn’t care less if it’s the cup and we’ve never taken it seriously. The club has been stable in those times before - and it’s not now. Other clubs tonight have felt the need to play more senior sides but lo and behold, we have to be different. I find it quite astonishing there are fans who seem quite happy to see the first team lose a game just to keep defending the way the club is being run. It was a first team fixture and there were plenty of players tonight who should have been involved over those that were. We also clearly need to look again at the youth structure and recruitment of the club. None of these players will ever clearly be good enough.
The only positive is that hopefully that showed Pozzo et al that the much needed depth we have are a not up to scratch at league two levels and so we need either to reinforce, or start playing the spineless ****ers who didn't even travel today and currently on paid garden leave. Given that we didn't sign a centre back for the last five years though, that seems unlikely as Pozzos is absolutely ******* blind to all of our overwhelming problems.
It's honestly pointless trying to get people to wake up. Absolutely pointless. The blind aren't suddenly going to be able to see.
I don't really care about the result - as I don't remotely care about he completion. I do however care about the performance and the utter lack of talent within our "depth" because it is massively concerning for our ability to challenge for the league. This performance was reflective of a wider problem.
Thought Agyaka had a decent individual performance to be fair. At 18 he looked far more comfortable on the ball than the two senior players either side of him.
No one gives a flying toss about this competition. It was nice to win last week but it wouldn’t have mattered had we lost. It will have no baring on the game Saturday.
It’s the same every single season though? As has been pointed out there is absolutely no correlation. We’ve never taken it remotely seriously and turn in rancid performances every single season. You’d be the first person to be slagging people off for being positive if we’d won 8-0 telling everyone it means nothing, just like you did when we beat spurs pre season.
To summarise: - Losing matches doesn't matter (the cup isn't real football). - Our academy being decimated to the point where we can't even produce Sunday league players doesn't matter. - Players being paid by the club but being held back match after mact in case of a sale whilst we are forced to play absolute no hopers doesn't matter. - The absolute disdain the club shows it's fans with that lack of communication and blatant lies when it does doesn't matter. - Signing hopeless, old sh*te like Murray and horrendous Udinese cast offs doesn't matter. - We can't take anything from first team football matches unless they're in the league. DOESN'T MATTER. - Don't be so negative! Show some support! Wave your flag and clap your hands!
Yes because every game ends in red cards and injuries. Or maybe, just maybe, some would have come through with some match-fitness aiding us for the games ahead? Maybe a win to gain confidence?
A friendly before the season has even actually started (the key part here is "pre-season friendly") does mean nothing comparative to a cup game 4 games into the official season when the state we are in is becoming clearer and clearer.
