If this means that we have to play Glenn Murray we may as well not turn up and just give them the default 3-0 win now. ****s sake.
Not many positives from that. Perica was looking decent and now can't play until Oct 21st, which helps no one. The academy players all pretty poor tbh. Pussetto should have gone back to Udinese. I don't see what we hope to achieve in playing people like Sinclair. Murray should only ever be an option to chuck on when we're losing with 10 mins to go.
That could hardly have gone any worse. Defeat on Saturday and its the beginning of the end for the Pozzos Suspect Ivic may walk, wouldn't blame him either
Thank you Pozzos for building a squad of greedy mercenaries and killing the progress made in 5 years in the space of 4 games.
Yep, Murray looked a waste of a shirt from his first appearance for us, and he's not gotten any better. It's moments like Perica's sending off which demonstrate what I'd been saying about why you don't bother risking any needed players in such a pointless competition. Stupidity from Perica, but also stupidity from Ivic in playing him while he's our only half-decent CF. Very few positives from that. Agyakwa was fairly composed. Sinclair was fairly sharp. That's about it. Garner made some good passes but didn't get involved enough. The rest were mostly rancid.
I gave up after the third. Newport fully deserved it and well done to them I hope they get a plumb tie vs Newcastle next round. As for us, if that is our back up for any "First Team" players, we are going nowhere fast. Murray is an OAP and can join Gomes at Friday Bingo. Utterly useless in every sense of the word. Felt sorry for every fan who also paid a tenner for that tripe. Silly red card for Perica so he's out for Saturday now. We are thread bare as it is, getting sent off in needless cup games is normally the best idea. Pussetto was woeful, Bachmann went down in the pecking order especially the third goal. None of these youngsters are good enough yet, but I guess the run out was good. Really couldn't give a rat's @rse about the League Cup, I just hope we play better Saturday.
I wonder if Ivic will come out with "well that was a waste of time" in the post match conference. It's an utter disgrace that the Pozzo's have given Ivic such a poor squad. It shows we do not have strength in depth. The only reason we beat Oxford was because Bachmann had the game of his life. Tonight he was back to his normal level, showing why an aged Gomes kept him as number 3. I've pretty much given up on this season already, unless something radically changes. It's obvious this squad is not going to get anywhere. The current first choice and the back up guys are not good enough. We've got a collection of poor signings, which we've tucked away for so long, and you can now see why they don't play. Sinclair, Pussetto, Penaranda and added to them with more deadwood in Murray, Sierralta and Stevenson. It's just so depressing to see our excellent players being denied to us, and we're having to rely on utter crap to get the job done. Obviously Ivic will be diplomatic and will not (nor should he) throw any of his players under the bus, but I want to see him a little bit angry and frustrated with the board over their inactivity in the market to date.
Think it's really hard to read into anything about a performance from a team containing Sierralta, Sinclair, Agyakwa, Stevenson, Hungbo and Crichlow. It's basically an U23 game with a couple of senior pros given minutes to build up their fitness. We may well lose against Luton but tonight gives no indication either way. Silly to play Perica when he'd likely start on Saturday and even sillier from him to throw an elbow like that. Murray looks even worse than the most pessimistic on here predicted. Hopefully it's him getting up to speed after not playing regularly for a year but...wow.
For anyone who didn't watch, I just want to let you know that that wasn't just 'oh we've not really turned up" bad, or "understandably disjointed performance considering all the changes" bad, that was BAD bad. Like, really, really bad. And we can't blame Ivic, he's done what he can. Just a laughably poor available squad. Seriously, really, very, very bad. So bad. Wow.
Is he really even "half decent" though? Did next to nothing but miss a few chances against League One opposition last week, had a decent touch or two at the weekend but again missed his one good chance, then crap tonight against League Two opposition and then idiotic enough to get himself sent off as well. Just another Pozzo/Udinese bargain bin sh*tter. But his "goals to minutes bla bla bla", "doesn't matter if he's scored less than 20 goals in 5 years bla bla bla"...
No good hiding behind excuses. That was simply not good enough. Just two months ago we were a proud Premier League club, winning two matches inside a week to give us hope of staying up. Fast forward a few weeks and we can’t even beat a 4th tier side. We go to all the trouble of identifying and getting Ivic, then deal him such a woeful hand. From beating the European champions to this inside a few months Horrible.
Know there was 6 u23’s or whatever but that’s damn alarming as if it wasn’t already before from a strength in depth perspective.
3 worse players were probably the 3 most experienced ones out there.. And well even as a kid you are told not to mess around with the ball near your own area so no excuse for Mr Phillips! And the one player who MIGHT start a game gets sent off.
Result not really fussed about but I hate what my club has become under these disgraceful owners. And we are up to our eyeballs in debt to boot and paying almost a full team of mercenaries to sit around taking their wages in. Shameful.
I just checked the result now, why is anyone forming opinions based on it? What’s the furthest we’ve ever been in this tin pot cup? It’s the same every single season, we throw it every single year and play appallingly, absolutely no conclusions can ever be taken from it.
Indeed. And if we 'didn't care about the cup anyway', why not play those players who don't care? It'd have made a 3-1 defeat to a League 2 team far more entertaining.
The most common statement in Jon Marks commentary was "pass was over hit". That is really basic stuff. They may be "fringe players" but they are paid thousands to just play football....full time. It's their job. Being unable to pass the ball is not acceptable or excusable.
Sorry but for anyone painting that as ‘not too worried as it was just the kids with a few seniors thrown in’ then they haven’t been listening to the manager so far. He wants a big squad. He wants to rotate throughout the season due to time and the amount of games. As things stand, some of these players are in line to get minutes. This game is symptomatic of the issues we have at the club. Things could improve as the window goes on - but we have to talk about the facts of the here and now and not the wishes of what we hope to come. As it stands, this is what we have to play with. And the squad will seemingly get worse from here before it gets better. This was a first team fixture whether we like it or not and losing a first team fixture, even if it is only the league cup, doesn’t breed a good atmosphere around the club. Or help in creating a winning culture. This isn’t bedwetting. This is reality in my opinion and we are sleepwalking into a belief that ‘everything will be alright’ in the end. We have our local rivals for the first time in a long time on Saturday. And we look a mess going into it. 4 points yes, but not much to positive about in the way we have accrued them. And I really fear we have a squad who will be completely apathetic to what the game means. And an owner who will wrap players in cotton wool and accept a defeat. Embarrassing.
