I was reading in the Spanish press today about the manager leaving Alaves, they were talking about next season and how difficult it will be with so many players leaving as half the team are on loan. It then mentioned that Kiko Femenia is off to Watford.

Oh, right, ok, so some press at the time here reported that he had signed a pre-contract agreement with us to sign in the summer. So we all should have been expecting this to be announced any time anyway?

 

Supposedly a 3 year deal on a pre contract as his contract expires at the end of this season. So that would suggest he will be officially a Watford player on 1st July.

If true, Janmaat, Djedje and Femenia as our RB's. Feel sorry for Djedje as he will probably be the one to go which is a shame as he is a good player. Would rather him in a back four than Janmaat personally. Was very good at Marseille, unbelievable that Mazzarri never picked him. However now he has basically had a year off, who knows if he will find his form from Marseille, such a waste.

 

Or we'll keep all three and use Janmaat at left back? Femenia can play further forward as well.

 

For all of Mazzarris faults, I don't think you can play blame Djedje not playing on him.

 

Personally I think we can, he played him in a cup game, so he obviously wasn't as injured as it was made out to be. Then he picks Arla over him for the whole second half of the season because Gomes was going to be out for a few weeks. When realistically he didn't need to, and for all our defensive woes it would have been more helpful to have a defender in the squad than a keeper who was never going to play.

That is just my opinion on it and I could be totally wrong and maybe he was really as injured as they say. I just don't see how he can play a cup game then never play again basically. To me it looks like a very similar situation to Success. Walt didn't warm to him so therefore will play him as least as possible and blame it on injuries etc.

 

I don't think 70 minutes of football proves much to be honest - particularly considering he barely played for the U23s either. Yes, we had horrible injuries in defence, but I'd rather be short on defenders than goalkeepers. It was the right choice to make.

 

Mazzarri tried to sign him when he was at Napoli I think so I don't think it was because he didn't rate him.

 

See where you're coming from mate and respect your opinion. Personally I don't think it was the right choice just because Gomes injury was short term. However if Pants got injured and we didn't have Arla people would have been going on about how he should have picked him. It was a risk leaving Arla out but a low risk at that, a risk I would have liked to see Walt make.

Anyway season is over, I just hope we get to see Djedje this season because he really is a good little defender.

 

The thing is with injuries though is that initially, it may be a short-term injury - but sometimes they can flare up again or take longer than expected to rehabilitate from (especially in older players such as Gomes) at the time we didn't have that many defensive injuries so it was the right call to make at the time -you can form a makeshift defence, you can't do the same for keepers! Or what if Djedje's injury flared up again after a month?

 

I get all that mate and that is a fair point to make, I just would have liked to see Walt take a little risk with Djedje. Like I said hopefully we get to see more of him this season because he is a tidy player.

On a side note, Valencia seem to think they have signed Femenia based on their fans forum.

 

Completely forgot about this but pretty much all Spanish News outlets are reporting he's joined us. His club have also officially tweeted him goodbye.

If you took away the J and E and replaced them with an S.....( so Joel spelt Sol ) then I would say definitely yes.

What a super player Sol was, am I right ? So strong and dominant. You could almost taste the testosterone wafting from the pitch up to the corporate seating at Highbury. Me and the good wife were big fans.

Listen to me ramble on about the good old days, Im a GoldenBoy now and have no idea about Joel Campbell. I have never heard of him, apologies GoingDown but I cant give an informed opinion of him having never seen him play.

However, Troy Deeney is a super striker though, isnt he ? We should never sell him because he embodies the history of the club and is a splendid counter balance to everything that is wrong with the greed of modern footballers.

Although , having said that, Im not sure why agents get so much stick these days. Surely getting the best deal you can is a cornerstone of the freemarket ? The world we all believe in and prosper within , and these dastardly ISIS chaps are trying to dismantle it brick by brick. Listen here, they have bitten off more than they can chew, am I right ?
