This and the Choudhury deals are very sensible. Little risk, quite a big potential upside - both on and off the pitch.
Get the gash Bayat players on long contracts and the decent players on loan so we never actually have to buy them. The Pozzo way.
I asked around a few times over the past couple of weeks and the answer was always ‘I don’t think it’s Hause’. So they’ve either played it very quietly or are moving down the list of targets it seems. For all the Matt Clarke talk, there’s been very few, if any, tangible links out there. More a case of fans putting 2 and 2 together.
Hey, Villa fan in peace. Saw the reports that you were in for Davis, so i was interested to see what you guys were thinking about it. Honestly, Davis does have some issues with injuries, but last season with Forest he wasnt too bad, he played in 18 games (of 24 available - while he was on loan), but granted, thats still 6 games missing due to injury, hopefully if he does join you, he will manage to avoid injuries. In terms of Davis as a player, he is a proper hulk, he loves to man handle opposition players and is very capable at holding up the ball and bringing team mates in to the game. What is good about Davis though, is that he is actually quite nimble and skilful for a big man, and can turn and run, and likes his step overs and going past players. Davis historically did and has had problems scoring goals, although at Forest he did well in that regard, he played 1124 minutes, scoring 5 goals and getting 2 assists, in game time, that a goal every 2.5 games, and a goal contributing action (goal or assist), every 1.8 games. Its a bit of a meme at Villa, but i do think its also true in a sense, that if Davis could add goals consistently to his game, he would be a complete striker, he is powerful, fairly quick, fairly skilful, nimble for a big man, likes a battle, likes to try tricks and skills, but clearly the one thing missing historically, which is in the end most important, was goals, which always limited him, but at Forest i think he was starting to show what he was capable of, hopefully you will see the same. Genuinely, if he stays fit, i think you guys will actually like him, Forest fans were unsure at first, but after a few games many Forest fans were saying he offers a completely different dimension to their play and was actually a critical part of getting them promoted. Vid of his time at Forest: I hope he does well for you (if he does join).
I wonder if/hope it’s Greaves. I know everyone was rightly discouraged by Dux’s claims to Andrew French to have never heard of him but Dux likes to use French and told him that the Manaj link was total bs too. So hopefully it’s smoke and mirrors and he’s the main target.
For what its worth, I've also asked around a few people this morning and the answer I got was "**** off" and "call this number again and i'll contact the police" Read into that what you will
Didn't realise he is left footed. Doesn't matter so much as a striker, but does technically give us more balance.
I'm sure JP is intelligent enough to play alongside anyone but putting him with Davis doesn't seem like the most prolific partnership. The midfield is still a big issue for me, get a solid partnership in there which allows JP to play as a ten. Then we need a goalscorer up there with Davis. I realise I'm asking a lot of Mogi at this stage of the window.
Forest supporting mate simply described him as a 'beast' and would rather have him than Dennis. Main issue was goalscoring but even that started to come good during the run in. 24 years old and a local boy. I'm on board with this one.
LOL’s when Dennis flops, Davis excels and we use our buy option for £3m and Forest buy him back the day after for £30m+Dennis. The Mogi effect.
I was going to post something similar. Virtually every signing we've made over the past 3 years have been a downgrade on the player he's replacing or has been a player we didn't directly need. Choudhury and Davis are two good players who at Championship level and will make the team stronger and more balanced. First two intelligent signings we've made in a while, and makes me think maybe Giaretta was sacked last week and we've not heard about it yet??
I'd say Okaka. Brings the ball forwards, has surprisingly good technique and is as strong as an ox. But not PL level.
Agree with the overall sentiment. How weird is it to have signed two good first team signings. Davis can hopefully provide us with some of same contributions Championship Deeney did (power, pace, grit and decent touch), whilst given our complete lack of mobility and power in the middle, Choudhury will give us some of the same attributes (and hopefully the same impact) Guedioura gave us. Better control up top, faster recycling and transitions and Pedro and Sarr (at the moment) being fed balls higher up the pitch. What's not to like. Especially if we are able to start playing Kamara on his favoured side. CB and RWB to go.
