Well that says we have offered up to £4m based on appearances and performance, but only £2.5m guaranteed. That's how I read it anyway. Make that £3m and I'm sure a deal can be done.
Spoke to someone at the Lions rugby match yesterday who said he knows his parents and doesn't feel this deal will come off.
Breakthrough on a fee/structure I'm told. Leicester and Arsenal both securing other LB targets won't hurt either.
Any news on what the plan is with him - going on loan or is he staying as cover/competition with Masina going to AFCON and Rose being a behemoth.
No idea sadly - I still highly doubt we would be spending £3m-£4m for him to go out on loan....only way I foresee a loan is if he stays at Hibs for another season and that helps with the fee. I think Rose will be first choice personally. If the deal happens, my guess is Masina goes back to Italy this summer. That's just a hunch though.
Didn't play any part in their friendly yesterday. Although he did pull out of the Scotland U21 squad with an injury earlier in the summer so it could have just been that.
Think this one has fallen through. Started pre-season with Hibs yesterday. If we seriously can’t afford £8mil for Olise. There’s no chance we’re paying £4mil on a LB.
Him starting pre-season isn’t really indicative of anything. If negotiations for a transfer aren’t complete, stands to reason he’d be there. And a deal worth £4m over X amount of years isn’t really comparable to a deal where we have to pay £8m up front.
Also wasn’t involved in their friendly yesterday where they fielded a different team in each half - Hibs fans on social media questioning why.
I replied to @nornironhorn a couple of weeks ago about this if you’d bothered to read the thread. Latest info I had was provided last week was that there was a ‘breakthrough’ in discussions. That wasn’t me saying it was done at all. Always happy to pass on info as and when I get it - I’ve never once stated it’s 100% accurate but I will only pass on the stuff that I think is. If it turns out to be something that doesn’t happen, sue me. Talks break down, other clubs come in…etc etc Only trying to keep people informed if I can.
In all honesty it could of all been sorted ages ago and we need to mo e on somebody before it's completed. The window hasn't really kicked into gear yet.
And as noted, that was explained. Quoting what I said makes no difference. Apology accepted. But just for you, I won’t bother passing on any more info I hear. People like yourself aren’t worth the bother. Now back onto ignore you go.
No, it’s a done deal. Messaged him “Welcome to Watford” on Instagram and he deleted my message. Bad attitude, so surest sign yet he’s ours.
I think in those 2 weeks we've been buttering up his agent - he shares an agent with Mebude and Angelini...
Have attempted to ask the question of ‘what’s going on’ this morning - will share if I hear back. As far as I’m aware, we were still firmly interested last week. Wouldn’t shock me if we either had to raise money/sell Masina first, the player isn’t keen on the path we have tried to sell to him (loan? backup?) - or - another club has simply put a better deal on the table for player/club. Worth noting that Leventhal has said we still hold interest in Lewis Ferguson despite dismissing any further interest in him just a couple of weeks ago!
We'd be incredibly foolish to do this - Rose still looks miles off PL-level fitness and who knows how decent a player he could still be. Meanwhile Doig seems very raw and just doesn't look ready for regular PL starts to me. We'd basically be replacing one LB who can probably do a mediocre job in the PL, with two LBs where quite feasibly neither of them will even be as good as mediocre next season. I've hardly been Masina's biggest fan over the years, but I'd still trust him over the other two right now.
My concern is AL mentioned that Masina could move into a back three! 3-4-3 I could handle but we are not buying in players to play a 3-5-2.
Haha, in all seriousness, is Doig more of a defensive full-back, or an attacking one who can play wing-back effectively?
https://www.skysports.com/football/...trio-josh-doig-ryan-porteous-and-kevin-nisbet SSN Video interview directly with Doig halfway down the above link.... Sounds happy to stay where he is when addressing a question regarding speculation of a transfer. Although, interestingly he says ' I have another year here....' when asked, yet he signed a new deal in February that takes him to 2025. I wonder if a deal has already been done for next summer - or that a deal is in the pipeline that means he stays at Hibs this season...
This article has been written with a Leeds spin on it but the actual interview with Hibs' sporting director is not specific to Leeds: https://www.leeds-live.co.uk/sport/leeds-united/josh-doig-leeds-united-undervalued-21156418 Basically Hibs feel clubs this summer so far have been 'quite patronising and more transactional' in their offers for Doig, rather than selling some sort of sing-song vision of sunshine, lollipops and rainbows to the Hibs board. Oh and course falling short of the amount they want.
