Thought it was worth its own thread rather than cluttering up the Baah one. 18 year-old. 1 goal and 3 assists in 24 starts. I'm presuming if he comes in he'd be the second-choice/bench LB option instead of Lazaar. He was linked with a few PL clubs in Jan, most heavily with Leicester, so we'll have done well to get him. Obligatory youtube compilation. He seems very good technically and really tenacious. Could do with a bit more pace and power perhaps, but that can come with age.
Could be set for a loan (if we bring in Young too)either back to Scotland or to the Championship. Seems very impressive for his age. Pretty funny that Scotland’s two strongest players (Tierney and Robertson) and arguably their two best teen prospects (Hickey and Doig) are all LBs.
No complaints at all to go for this lad and this kind of signing with potential for the future. Plus Scottish players are often hard as nails.
Great to see we are trying to make the right kind of signings now. No more spunking cash down the toilet on players like Gray. Lets hope Gino has learned his lesson for good and doesn't get carried away again.
Was mentioned yesterday in the Baah thread (http://wfcforums.com/index.php?threads/kwadwo-baah.58316/page-3#post-2997232). Seems like we're undergoing a change in recruitment strategy which will provide a great buffer in the event we go back down again.
Obvious song in ‘Bird Dog’ which was a hit for the Proclaimers in a phase when they didn’t wear glasses.
... Or "doing a Norwich" as it's otherwise known. I'm all for these kinds of inexpensive punts on promising players with high upside potential, but let's not forget we'll also need to add more quality players to improve the first XI straight away if we don't want to make relegation a formality before the season has even started.
I am all for us doing a Norwich, brilliantly run club and the same size as Watford, should be our blueprint for doing things.
There's no downside of signing players like him, it's not as if we'd be relying on him to keep us up this season, and we're not going to be spending much on him. I don't think we'll quite go to the same extent as Norwich, but it's a reality that we aren't going to be able to spend that much this time, if we can make sure we're in a position to weather the storm of relegation if it happens and even bounce back, then great
I would be really impressed with this signing. Watched Doig play plenty of times my Mum is from Edinburgh and all of my family on that side are Hibs fans the lad looks a fantastic prospect, I would loan him back out of we signed him as he will be excellent in a few years. On the topic of Hibernian players I thought I would mention Ryan Porteous 22 year old centre back who has always impressed me when I have seen him.
Agreed with Doig looks very impressive on the times I've seen him play. Porteous I don't believe he would improve our squad. I believe if we go for a CB and I'm praying we do he needs to be a vast improvement on what we have. WTE is not the answer the same with Kabs and Cathcart. It's FS plus a new CB hopefully we start showing a little interest in Ajer. The value on him ranging from 6-8m is a must imo. Has everything in his locker to be a standout Premier league player whose value will only increase.
Well, I imagine you'll know all about Ajer! I know he's in his final year of his contract, but would £6-8m do for him?
That all depends on Celtics valuation. But the value knocking around is 6-8m He's stated on many occasions that he wants out in the summer and now the international manager has said he needs to move on to improve. I o he's got everything to be a big 6 CB in the end. Height, good pace, comfortable on the ball and only 22 with over 200 competitive games under his belt.
I've seen Norwich and Newcastle atm. Milan have scouted him over the years. Rodgers rates him highly but do they need another CB during the Summer?
I follow Celtic and Ajer is comfortable on the ball and can play out from the back, but I do have doubts. I think he can be risky at times and arguably gets away with it because he is playing in The SPL.
Yes he's not perfect but is still only 22 yrs old, extremely young for that position and will get better. You can tell me better but I've read his form this season has dropped off. Saying that you must have good knowledge on Edouard is he worth keeping an eye on?
Yes he probably hasn't been great this season but then again the whole squad haven't been. Eduard is very good but I think there will be lots of big clubs around Europe chasing him. Ryan Christie could be a bargain as his contract is running out and he has plenty of quality.
I got the impression was they brought in Shane Duffy as a marquee singing to help the defence and he has flopped badly. And none of the strikers have really hit form. So basically the opposite to Rangers!
Your probably right, but stranger things of happened I suppose. Would almost be guaranteed a starting spot with us. I will look out for Christie tomorrow if I can find a decent stream.
I'd be a bit concerned if we had to play this guy up against Villa and their Brazilian midfielder next season, after all, it's a Doug-eat-Doig world out there.
