https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/football/7140884/hibs-transfer-talks-watford-4m-josh-doig/ Says we're confident an agreement can be struck, looking for a young full-back to develop. £2.5m up front with add-ons. Hibs will insist on a sell-on percentage also.
Hibs are after Scott McMann of Hamilton Academical. Guess what position he plays. Yep LB. who got relegated from the SPL to Division 1, Hamilton. Only other teams mentioned interested in him are St. Johnstone and Millwall. My guess is Hibs will use some of our money to sign him. Bottom line, Doig will be ours. They will play the cup final, once it’s done, fully expect Doig to be announced next week.
That’s the concern, yeah. Not hard to imagine someone offering more than Gino and then it’s game over.
He's just ensuring they let him go for a low price. His agent told him to do this. Same tactics as Capoue employed at Huddersfield.
On the BBC site they said it was an area St Johnstone could exploit due tot he greater height and they did. As a general point got to feel for the Saints fans - 4 visits to the national stadium in one season and never been able to go once! It's not like they are Rangers or Celtic.
Arsenal and Milan now being heavily linked with him. If that’s true, the only thing we can potentially offer him is more first team football than them, otherwise it’s a no brainer that he would pick one of them over us.
He’s been linked with big clubs for the past few months though - Chelsea and Leicester also mentioned depending on where you look. But we are pretty far into talks - doubt we’d have gone to the lengths we have if we didn’t think he’d come.
What lengths are they, out of interest? Football Manager would have me believe all that’s required is a phone call to tell him how often he’d play and how much money we’ll give him.
The info I was told without putting too much on here, is that both clubs are positive it’ll happen but Hibs didn’t want anything announced before their last game. And we have been been given permission to speak to the player but asked, again, not to do so before yesterday. Always a chance someone else comes in as with any deal - but when I’ve asked, the answer has always been that we are very confident it’ll get done.
You can see why he'd come here. Backup to Tierney, backup to Hernandez or backup to Masina. If he's any good he'll be starting the season as our first choice.
Even if he isn't as good as Masina yet, he is just a totally different profile of player so it gives a coach a tactical choice to make which I like.
What's happening with this one? Is he having a medical with Matt Grimes and Ashley Fletcher? Thought it was a done deal according to those in the know...
Hopefully this one gets sorted. He looks a real decent LB at such a young age. Hoping it gets announced very soon.
I think the thrust of that reporter’s tweet was that while he is being considered by Arsenal, they’re likely to bring in someone else instead.
Asking price of £5mil. Seems right up Gino’s ally. Give them £2-3mil upfront and the rest in installments. They want a sell on clause, give them 10%. Then buy it out later on like Norwich did with Buendia if he starts reaching his potential.
£5m seems quite reasonable considering his potential. You just know we've gone in with our bid of £4m paid over 6 years and are now walking away.
Haha, was not intended to be cryptic! Just suggesting that just because nothing has been heard of for a week or so, that’s not necessarily a bad thing - to the best of my knowledge anyway!
