Any idea why he wasn't even on the bench on Saturday, despite injuries and suspensions to at least 4 first teamers?
Methinks we have bought a dud.
Unless Fluminense have more Joao Pedro's than the child we've bought & the one in the first team, then I think the child one scored for the under-17s today.
I think it shows the importance of being nice to your former players. Without Richarlison, we probably wouldn't be getting Joao Pedro.
As much as we want to boo some former players, they do talk and recommend us to national compatriots.
Especially useful for Brazilians as I've heard they produce some alright players...
Let’s hope we aren’t relying on Brice Dja-Djedje to help entice the next Ivorian wonderkid then.
Surely a bit far-fetched?
I would say it's probably about right. Similar fee to Richarlison and the same sell-on as well.
I believe Richarlison was about 13 million euros, but was a bit older/ more experienced. Hope the insurance on this boy is good. Quite a lot of risk involved but one must speculate to accumulate.
Yep. You never know how things will pan out from youth football to senior.
Case in point would be Yaya Sanogo. Outstanding at youth level, but didn't look like a footballer at the next level.
The same in every sport I would expect,it certainly is in tennis.
Martin Lee was the top junior and never made a dent in the world rankings. A warning to Jack Draper.
It's such a hard transition,so much can happen.
Good luck to JP.
We had the 'new Pele' in Rod Thomas. I was so excited...
Looking forward to never seeing him in a Watford shirt!
Is he a fascist?
Mods, delete the Gomie thread toot sweet!
Wouldn’t be more than a cadet in the Youth movement.
If we restricted our recruitment to Lib Dem voters, would the squad be as strong?
From whom we'll sign who we want.
Probably a better disciplinary record but a lot of empty seats.
Joao Pedro played for Fluminense in the Brazil Under-17s Cup today. They ran out 2-0 winners against Cruzeiro.
Just the two mentions on the clubs official twitter feed. 1st half, 28mins - https://twitter.com/FluminenseFC/status/1055527733051174912 - Joao Pedro gets the ball in the middle, passes through five opponents, kicks strong, but the ball rises a lot. And then when he was substituted after 56mins with the score at 1-0.
Mazey dribble then ‘kicks strong’.
A combination of Barnes & Mahon.
João Pedro has been given the #23 shirt in the 1st team squad for the upcoming season in Brazil.
He appeared as a 2nd-half sub in some incomprehensible Brazilian cup competition tonight, the Campeonato Carioca (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_Campeonato_Carioca), and claimed an assist for a late equaliser. The game finished level at 1-1.
Had a bit of Campeonata Karaoke myself this week.
Know how he feels.
Hopefully he'll do better in the role than Denzel Washington.
The campeonato carioca is a big deal. Its the Rio state championship which takes place at the end of the league season. In terms of status its half way between the FA cup and the league cup. The 4 big teams in it are the Brazilian equivalents of Man Utd, Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea. Admittedly, the other teams in it r ****. My understanding is that JP cost 10 million reais (BRL), less than £3m. Rod Thomas was unaturally physically advanced for his age as a 15 year old. When the others in his age group caught up he was little more than a plucky dwarf. Joao Pedro is insanely good for his age. His penalties dont just send the keeper the wrong way, they send me the wrong way when im watching. Obviously its impossible to know how he'll develop and many of those he plays against at youth level will never become pros. But his current level is pretty mental. I could well be wrong but to me he looks better than Barnes was at that age.
That’s some claim in your last sentence.
As i said, i could well be wrong! Also he could be better than Barnes now and worse than Trevor Senior at 19. No guarantees. But if he fulfils his potential, I hope he stays longer than Ricky did.
It still annoys me watching him fly down the wing for Oldham
Barnes Mk 2 would be extraordinary.
Plucky dwarf entertaining.
Scored with his first touch on his senior debut last night with a decent header: https://streamable.com/deved
If he celebrates like that when he scores an irrelevant consolation goal, I can't wait to see what he does when he scores a goal that actually means something.
Interesting he's now made his first team debut. There was an article relayed by Sports Witness about him last month, saying Fluminese's president was in London intending to see if we would bring forward the instalments due to them under the transfer agreement. The article said we would no doubt expect him to be playing first team football rather than youth/reserve level stuff if there was to be any agreement. It seemed like speculation at the time but makes me wonder now.
Bit harsh, considering it was a goal on his senior debut. I’d be shocked if he didn’t celebrate with some gusto. Good on him.
Irrelevant consolation goal ? It brought his team back to 3-2 down with 20 mins to go !
And it was against Flamengo in the Maracana. The stuff dreams are made of.
Thanks for sharing this. If JP lives up to his potential we r gonna b very very happy people!
