Lol, so not only are we not signing anyone and are condemned to watch Andre ******* Gray every week, we've now sold the best player still contracted to our club to our mates at Udinese, no doubt for pennies rather than a real transfer fee to be in any way reinvested into the squad.

Well, the dream of getting promoted and him coming back was nice while it lasted. Good times.

Obviously he wasn't going to play for us again but why convert the loan now?

Can only presume that we are so ****ed for money that this has been done to chuck us a couple of million euros upfront so we can try and get another couple of loans in. He's obviously not going to move to Udinese for his market value but maybe this is a way of getting a tiny bit of cash in for the next couple of days?

After my initial surprise/annoyance, this is presumably the reason - it's all the same money in the end anyway, but presumably randomly shifting him onto the other club's books two days before the end of the January window is a method of getting some creative funding in that we otherwise might not be able to access/justify.

Of course, whether that's true or not will be directly evident in about 48 hours' time, so it won't take too long to know for sure whether it is a confirmation of how dodgy our financial situation is, or nothing more than another tone deaf PR move from the lessons-learned brigade.

I'm pretty sure there would have been a clause like that in the deal when we signed him. For that reason Udinese would have had to have signed him for a market rate figure, or else Barca would be all over it, especially because of their financial issues right now.

 

He's just as likely to play for us in the future as he was yesterday. On loan or permanent, there's no difference.

Very likely a ploy to get some money in the bank. Hopefully with the aim of a late signing or two, rather than a necessity to keep the wolf from the door.

 

All very well. But we could have got money back in the bank in the summer by reversing the Pussetto transfer. I’m highly suspicious of anything they do now. I guess if we bring in a couple of bodies before end of window then your theory holds correct.
