Watched 2 episodes of line of duty. Stuggling with it really. Its so complicated and convoluted that they clearly signpost stuff to the point you know its a red herring. If it isnt a red herring it feels too convenient to be genuinely interesting.

Certain programmes explain the plot by way of a massive coincidence. Entertaining? Maybe... But dont try and dress it up as a mystery suspense.

Same thing happened with 24, in the end it became very tedious as they used to go out of their way to make people look dodgy, to the point they so obviously weren’t.

I'm very late to the party but I'm thoroughly entranced by the four episodes of Fargo I've seen.

It's one that I've missed so might dig it up if I can force the wife away from her boring historical documentaries. Or indeed if I can leave her to them in another room. I've only just started Handmaids tale which isn't the aforementioned historical documentary I thought it was.

Just finished Into The Night on netflix, quite an enjoyable watch if you like the end of the world type thing.

Dutch (I think?) crime series called Undercover on netflix is really good too, some great acting and inspired by a real life undercover operation.

Controversial, but Line of Duty is *****, fight me.

I am starting to agree with this.

I love the program and have done from the first series. But this series has gone slightly downhill in my opinion as it seems too focused on red herrings and shock value to the extent that they are just too "run in the mill" that they become the norm - and therefore lose their surprise and suspense value.

Still enjoying it though, but that is probably because regular watchers have become relatively more involved with the characters.

It was a bit of an anticlimax to be sure.

It slipped back from earlier series, but was still far great TV in my view.

The ending gave us some answers, and also left it open for another series due to the high level cover-up.

It wasn’t that bad, I agree. Something I’ve found a little frustrating with LOD is that you don’t get to spend enough time with the antagonists/suspects. Sometimes I feel like the story would benefit from a bit more show instead of tell. They’ve just thrown characters like Carmichael and Lomax in to the mix without ever giving us a feel for what they might be up to.

Having said that, they’ve done incredibly well to cram as much in to some 35ish episodes as they have.

It felt slightly underwhelming because after all that, Buckles was just an idiot having his strings pulled. I think there will be another series, I’d be surprised if they left it there.

It had dropped off a cliff in the penultimate episode for me.

Why was Kate on the run after a completely justifiable shooting? Why did Jo Davidson take the heat for it?

Then the climax of the series - Buckels. That's their 4th man. BUCKELS.

Why did they bother to get James Nesbitt to play a photo of a corrupt officer in Spain?

Why did Carmichael, who was all over AC12 in episode 6, decide to step back and allow them to actually do their jobs for the first half hour?

This season peaked at episode 5 and then just became cold porridge, GOT style

It definitely has the potential to be another show ruined by its own popularity and greed. They'll just keep dragging it out now with no real ending in sight.

I tend to agree with your post.
I think Buckels may be H, but that that H was not really the person pulling the strings. H's importance has been overplayed.
Nesbitt was brought in, it seems, merely to provide another red-herring, which is not how it should be in my view.
I think Carmichaels "stepping back" and Buckels, may be part of a way of preparing for a Series 7 which may try and fry bigger fish!

DEFINATELY left open for another series, and hope it will be better than this one.

  19. Disappointed last night, but on reflection that was because the baddies weren't (yet) revealed as the baddies that we wanted them to be. In fact, by making the corruption so mundane, and by the Chief Constable getting away with lying again, and the disbandment of AC12, it was a brilliant metaphor for this country.

I hoped I would, but the first episode got progressively more tedious until the inevitable unpleasant thing happened. Meanwhile, Kate Winslett walked around stuffing her face grimly.

Wellington Paranormal looks like it could be a favourite. Still not seen What We Doin The Shadows series.

New series of the brilliant Inside No 9 starting next week too.

Done the first series - all good stuff (although I found the finale a bit 'meh'). Four eps into the 2nd one and it's still maintaining the high standards - I trying to go through them a fairly brisk rate as I waiting to get to the 3rd one starring the hauntingly beautiful and brilliant Carrie Coon (I'm assuming her surname won't get through the BBS filters - judging by her performances in the astonishing 'The Leftovers').

The think that gets me about Line of Duty is the constant conversational plot re-hashing every 15 mins to help the average BBC1 watcher keep up.

Just finished watching the first season of Breaking Bad for just the second time after getting the complete series six years ago. I was reluctant to watch it again, because brilliant though the show is, I feared some bits would be too grisly and/or depressing to watch again.

Well, I was totally wrong. Some of it is indeed very dark and violent, but none of that matters a jot (and indeed, enhances the drama) when it's so incredibly watchable, well acted and produced, and certainly not devoid of humour (Jesse and Tuco have some great one-liners). Skyler, whom many viewers love to hate, was more of a bitch than I remember, but she's a very well acted, believable and at times sympathetic character.

Breaking Bad has a slightly better rating on IMDb than its fellow hit show from the same era Game of Thrones (at the time I first watched the former, the two were neck and neck) but I much prefer BB (I only have the first season of GoT and still haven't finished watching it, but I might change my mind after a rewatch).

The 70's 'effects' were a bit clunky (the first season of Homecoming did it much, much better) but it all came together in the penultimate episode (S02E09) which I *think* is one of the finest 5o min s of TV I've seen in a long time. Kirsten Dunce gave, I think, whay will be seen as the greatest performance of her career.

I jusy started Series 3 of Ozark after taking a break, having binged the first two series.

I think it's starting to go over the same ground again so needs to conclude soon to avoid jumping the shark. still exciting and terrible to watch, but i get the sense that they have run out of shocks now, so need to wrap it up before the story becomes too weak to support more of the same.

The third series was the best, but I agree with you that they recognised that there is only so far they can go with the storyline, the fourth and final series will be available from October.
