In the South Park film released in circa 2000 they went to war with Canada because the mums were offended by bad language.

It is superb, I loved how they led us down the garden path all the way up to the final scene. I was convinced that it was the opposite until the end.

My theory - William is the man in black, and we are in fact seeing multiple different spans of time.

I don't think they are the same person, their features are different. (Character wise)

I've just binge-watched the first season of The Expanse. I thought it started a bit slowly but superb by the end. Probably the most convincing view of the distant future I've seen on either the big or small screen. Stunning production values & attention to detail. Well written & performed. Very Larry Niven. I recommend it to anyone who like a bit o' quality SciFi.

Just watched the first episode of Westworld.

****ing weird. Why not just make a standard Wild West TV show?

Deadwood seemed to get a lot of praise, and that was a wild west TV show.

I've no idea wtf is going on in Westworld. Why mix the past with the present?

Since the 70's I think Wild West TV shows & movies have been considered a bit passé by the studios (one or two exceptions aside). SciFi Wild West TV shows & movies though they seem perfectly fine with. Wild Wild West, Firefly, Westworld, Cowboys Vs Aliens...

I would like a wild west soap opera aimed at a teen market, like hollyoaks. Wild West High. Dolly is going to the hickory ho down on Saturday but can't choose what dress to wear or if she's going with Hank or Marvin. Meanwhile Marvin has found his uncles moonshine and a gun.

But what about all the actors wearing the animal costumes? I'm assuming by the size of them they're child actors - shouldn't the BBC be prosecuted for breaking child labour laws?

    Meh!

But, it was worth watching to see where
    South Park
is getting all the Mars gags/storylines from.

  23. Got bored with Mars after about 40 minutes, probably won't watch it again

Grand Tour, not technically a TV program, is head and shoulders above shouty man Top Gear

    GT was OK.
It was trying too hard to be funny though. The actual car stuff was fine. The opening segment was toilet.
I'll watch again next week but I'm not bowled over.

I actually thought shouty man top gear wasn't too bad.

There's been a lot of table setting so far. Hopefully now everyone has been introduced and their motivations identified, we can get down to the main part of the season.

Negan is excruciating and unrealistic. He doesn't offer enough value to put up with stealing your wife. IRL he'd be assassinated fairly quickly. People just won't put up with stuff like that for long, unless the payoff is really really worth it. I just don't see it.

I think that's why people hate this season so passionately. It broke the rule that this is supposed to be a realistic zombie apocalypse.

On the other hand, Westworld... I'm so glad it's working out. I was worried it'd be stupid.

I'm a big fan of the US late night "news" shows (RIP "The Colbert Report"). I think Trevor Noah's "The Daily Show" is still a "work in progress", but I did like how he dealt with Tomi Lahren. I see that this week's star tun of Question Time is the Morons' Messiah himself with the heavyweight intellects of Will Self and Louise Mensch so far conformed. I do hope that whatever polticos turn up, copy Noah's method of dealing with Der Fuhrrager's post-factual brand of *******s.

I'm no fan of Trevor Noah as I think he's pretty vacuous and lightweight but I think he did fairly well against Tomi Lahren...she is just a ****...pretty but a ****. What he did was expose that if you scratch the surface of Lahren...there's just nothing there - she just regurgitates right wing talking points without actually understanding what they mean.

Her answers...sorry spin on the question "What is the right way to protest?" ...3 times she tried to deflect and repeat the talking points and didn't answer the question. I think Jon Stewart would have reduced her to tears.

TBF, walking into a "one man band" institution such as TDS and taking it over must have been daunting (I'm reading the new Daily Show book/history at the moment and I've just reached the point when I became a regular viewer with Colbert's departure) can you imagine the summary of what was expected of him?

And IMHO, what Noah's done in making TDS [apologies] "blacker" [/apologies] has made it able to explore the American issue of race/identity in a far more interesting/engaging manner that what Stewart could ever had done.

When Noah first introduced me to her (a few weeks ago) he did mention that the best way to combat/counter the populist "opinion formers" wasn't to argue with them (which they thrive on - Nick Clegg vs Der Fuhrrager I'm especially looking at you) but to find out why they believe/spout the stuff they do. I hope some of the other politico guests on this week's question time pick up on this to offer something to block out Mensch's and Der Fuhrrager's constant dog whistles.

Noah was in the UK a couple of weeks ago (he popped up on R4 speaking from Salford) - I really hoped that he was going to appear on QT or even AQ (or, at a push, even HIGNFY).

Noah isn't terrible, but he's just very different from Stewart. They're both quite sharp. I'm wondering how long before the networks take Trump's election for a sign that putting non-whites into these positions is not good for ratings?

I disagree he's unrealistic. He terrifies people through public cruelty and executions, and uses fear to keep people in line. It's been done so many times in human history that I don't find him unrealistic at all.

The issue with ruling using fear is that eventually, someone will snap and take a shot at you when your vulnerable. At that point the whole house of cards starts coming down.

It's inevitable, but in the meantime the mutual fear among his group (and the actual loyalty from some of the nastiest ones) keeps everyone in line.
