Going to start watching this tonight. Re-watched the film last night - even though it's a touch dated and the special effects are obviously nothing compared with today, it still creeps me out.

Watched. Hooked. Love the way the series has twisted where our sympathies lie at the outset (this comment will only mean something to those who have seen the film).

Really want to watch narcos but don't have the time to stream. I have a Amazon fire stick with kodi installed - is there a way to download the series and watch offline?

Just sign up to NetFlix, the first month is free anyway. If you manage to watch it all in a month then you can cancel.

Can I please add my name to the 'Westworld' fan club? Love it, even though I'm a bit squeamish so have to get Mr HH to give me a commentary on some of the nastier bits! Only thing I don't like is the fact that each episode seems to fly by and I then have to wait a week for the next one. If you haven't yet done so, watch it; you'll be hooked.

My feelings are the opposite regarding the pace from the first two episodes.

I can see the need for it, as it will be across 10 hours rather than the 90 minutes of the film.

Saying that I am enjoying it, Ed Harris is a maniac.

Is it worth watching Westworld the film before the tv show?

Only for the concept of the series.

Basically, guests pay to go on holiday role playing games, in this example, you pay to go to the wild west and have a story line where you can take on bandits who are robots but can't shoot back. IIRC correctly, there was also Romanworld and I think one other.

However, something goes wrong and the robot's safety protocols short circuit and start hunting humans.

Yul Brynner was a robot who 'turned' - it's a classic film and would recommend watching it as a standalone, the sequel wasn't as good

Agree with Hornetgags - ie you don't need to watch it to understand the series, but it's worth watching because it's a classic. Can't comment on the sequel as I've not seen it. One thing I would say - in episode 1, the Ed Harris character is a clever twist on expectations for those who have watched the film.

Jimmy - I know what you mean about the pace. I didn't mean the episodes fly by because they are really fast paced, more because I enjoy them so much.

Enjoying Westworld very much, looks like it's going to be HBO's replacement for GoT.

Started watching Timeless (Been done before but if you're into time travelling and paradoxes etc. it might be the programme for you) and Designated Survivor (Jack Bauer as President) - both alright, nothing too special but worth a watch if your bored.

Walking Dead back this weekend, hopefully it kicks on a bit now with introduction of Negan.

Something I really like the look of is Berlin Station, first two episodes are available online - if you get a chance to watch it I'd definitely recommend it, think it could be one of the best series around for a while. Great cast as well.

I still think this is the finest TV drama ever produced. Disturbing, stomach-churning, funny and profound in equal measures. Nothing, nothing at all comes close to it.

A few years ago my sister asked me what I would like for Xmas. I mentioned that a box set of "Rome" would be nice. Being as thick as **** she, of course ****ed this up and got instead the luvvies-in-sheets-athon of "I, Claudius". This sat at the back of a shelf for a couple of years and I only dug it out to give to the kids' school tombola. Just to see how bad it was I put it on at 21h30 - I was still absorbed in it at 06h50 when my alarm went off telling me to get up for work. The narrative is highly addictive and it appears that every single actor in it was involved in some kind of competition to give the performance of a lifetime. This is the only other series that I think is comparable to "Oz" in that it's totally engrossing.

I see Westworld was mentioned earlier. I'm really enjoying this so far!

The setting of the park reminds me a lot of Red Dead Redemption. I did read that they had actually taken some inspiration from the game for this series.

I think it sets a lot of benchmarks and we can see echoes of Oz in the Sopranos, the Wire and others. I personally think the Sopranos is the best TV series I've ever seen, bar none, but Oz is right up there.

I watched it as a teenager and it's stayed with me, which is a true testament to the story arcs and I had to start rewatching. It's aged very well, given that it's nearly 20 years old and is easily worth watching today for any milennials who weren't born or old enough to enjoy it back in the day.

I've only done two episodes and I'm very impressed by far. I didn't have high hopes for it as there were lots of rumours on the world's 2nd greatest website that the production wasn't a very happy place to work and the results were viewed by everyone as a car crash. Judging by what I've seen it's compelling, intelligent television - I only hope it doesn't start to disappear up its own ar$e like what happened to "Lost".

Funny that, the Sopranos I just stopped watching (dunno why) and I thought "The Wire" was very good (oddly enough it took me three goes to get into it and I only watched it because I was an external examiner on someone's dissertation entitled something like "Identity Expressed in 'The Wire'". I only got into Oz as it was shown on Lithuanian TV (starting on the 2nd series for some reason) at stupid o'clock and only for about 5 episodes before it was taken off. When I returned to the UK I had to get the discs from the US and when I put them on my wife starting asking questions about whether I was hiding "...prison rape fantasies..." from her - that was until she sat and watched an episode. "Oz" actually has my favourite amazon 1-star review of all time:

(A review that's only just beats the one from the idiot who bought the complete "Monkey" (as in "Aaaah Pigsy....") who thought he was buying "The Monkees").

Actually I want to add to my list of "Oz" and "I, Claudius" - the first series of "The Leftovers" was what I can only describe as flawless television. The second series suffered from Ye Olde Not-As-Good-As-The-First syndrome, but it was still very good. The third and final season is next year.

Anything by Jonathan Meades is essential viewing in my household it just as shame that when they made this they bottled out (or couldn't afford the music rights most likely) of putting everything he's made in it (it's still well worth £13 of anyone's money).

I really had to persevere through the first season of the Wire. It was finally, when on holiday and I took the box set that I had to plough through, for want of anything else to do after 6pm, once the kids were asleep and, not wanting to do a McCann, I had to sit and pass time in the hotel room before sleep.

Once I got into it, it began to get better and better.

Sopranos, for me, was just a joy, right from the start. There were one or two "experimental" episodes which dragged (dream episodes) but overall, it was exceptional.

I do find that the monologues from Augustus are a bit tiresome and don't really add anything, apart from trying to tie together the theme of each episode, but the rest of the drama is good enough to make them worth suffering/ff through.
