If Deeney broke his leg there he could always become a coal miner. That's probably better than here where he would become a bus driver.
Nice. I simply was giving an opinion - this is a forum after all - that, as sad for Watford fans INCLUDING ME the loss of Troy to a BIGGER club would be, I can see how and why Newcastle United would be an attractive option. And better for him than Everton. I know he's loved at Watford. I love him. We all do. Even the prats who spouted that they never wanted to see him again wear yellow for disgracing the club. I've lived, worked, played football and refereed in the North East, so whether you find it acceptable or not, right now, the Toon are a much bigger institution with, like it or not, a much bigger fanbase of even more dedicated fans than us. Kill me for saying it, but its true and it doesn't make you or me lesser people because of it. They may even be more likely to pay much much bigger wages. I also suggested that I think he'd be successful there. Not all players are when they move, as they don't have the right attitude of culture for the club they're going to. In this case, Troy does, IMO. Troy has the potential to be another Malcolm MacDonald. If you remember him? He will make the decision, he won't be swayed by the forum, me, you or people in yellow lycra lying prostrate in his driveway. He'll do it for his family and whatever he decides to do, bloody good luck to him, for he alone has earned the right. I certainly don't want to lose such a talented cult hero, but hey, if he goes, he goes with my best wishes because he has earned the right to better himself. In Troy's last club interview he said himself how he wants to establish himself in the Premier League, prove what he can do and then, who knows, England? So he is rightly ambitious. What if Señor Flores doesn't fancy him, or feels Troy won't fit the style that he wants to introduce? I'm not trying to sell him, I'm just being realistic that with an attractive offer, he may choose to go to a bigger club. Even if Gino Pozzo wanted to keep him. Which he must do, or he wouldn't have gifted Troy a 24k gold Rolex Daytona Troy was wearing on the promotion party bus. If you or anyone else think I'm strange for saying so, so be it. I'm grown up and I don't play the "I'm a better fan than you" cobblers so many do on here.
Family seems to be big for Troy. He loves Birmingham, and has his family settled there to the extent he's commuted to Watford rather than move for the last four years. Now his lad has just started school and he has a new daughter. Considering as well that he's perfectly happy as our captain going into the Premier League, I see no reason why he'd be willing to move to Newcastle.
I've noticed a pattern whenever there is any interest in any of our players or managers. First is denial...people giving all the reasons under the sun why he would be mad to make the move and why he would be so much better staying here. Then, if he does eventually leave out comes the 'well he wasn't all that really, we can do so much better' line...further denial maybe I'm not a psychologist.
There nearly as bad a rangers used to be.... some very strange dealings over the past few seasons. It's a great stadium/fan base but the ownership is dangerous. Troy will stay for at the very least one more season. This was the aim.
It is one hell of a stadium to watch football. But yes they do not have the right kind of person in charge. Ashley is there equivalent of our Bas.
Swansea after him too now apparently http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...Deeney-look-add-attacking-options-summer.html
Pozzos are 't daft - why would they sell him now having got Deeney to stay and we need all our top players to help stay up or do better... Plus we won't want to give a rival club some sort of advantage... Also the fan reaction would not be very positive.. At best if Deeney does leave it won't be till next sumner..and that will only be if we have somebody lined up. V
Not sure why Toon are that big a club. They make get 50k fat Geordies watching them every week, but they are always towards the bottom end of the premier league, and have not won anything for over 40 years. Frankly they are a bit of a joke.
I find it impossible to think about Toon fans without the image of Sid The Sexist & his mates appearing in my mind
Newcastle are a big club. Just not a very successful one, and with ownership which currently values achieving a profit over even trying to win a cup. Their team in the mid to late 90s before Souness & Gullit ruined it was outstanding.
For future reference, this site is very good for keeping up to date with the players' contract details: http://www.wfc.net/players.htm
Cathcart & Almen with one year left most notable there, we'll be wanting to extend those sooner rather than later.
having done/doing a lot of work up here in Newcastle I can assure you they are a big club. just one with a terrible owner and a lot of deluded fans still waiting for Alan Shearer to make a return. I really cant see them paying the money we want never mind the money Deeney may want. Everton and Swansea on the other hand might for 15mil take a punt. either way i would be shocked if he left to be honest. I expect at least a year in the prem from him with us if his previous comments and commitment to the club are to be believed.
You may despise their owner, their fans, the colour of their kit etc. but they're still one of the 'biggest' teams in Britain. I for one will be looking forward to a trip up to Newcastle next season, much more exciting than the snorefest that Cheslea, Arsenal and Man City provide.
All depends on your definition of a "big club" I suppose. Is a big club one that wins trophies year in? Is it one that can attract big names? Is it one that's richer than most of the league? Is a big club defined by their history? Is it defined by amount of supporters in the country?
Shall we just say they are a "Sleeping Giant" club, that seem to be suffering from an incurable sleeping sickness :sleeping::sleeping:
20m and the Pozzos might consider it. As long as they have a ready made replacement. Swansea would be a good fit for him. Not sure about Everton they play 1 up front with Lukaku a fair bit. Newcastle he would probably do ok but club in a mess with owner issues. I've watched premiership football for a long time and I have never fallen for this loyalty and kissing badge nonsense. I'd like Deeney to stay but if he wants to go somewhere else for a pay rise (with agent assistance no doubt) and Watford accept the offer then good luck to him.
The technical term is African trypanosomiasis and can be cured with the right drugs but about 5% die.

I remember us playing them at home in a far from meaningless league game in Div 2 back in the early eighties (I'd say) on a Tue night. I thought there'd be loads of them, what with them being such giants and all, but there was barely a soul. The away section was near enough empty. I know it's a long way away for them to come, but I've been to Carlisle away on a Tue night with WFC in the 4th div and there was a reasonable little turnout from us. I reckon they're far from as 'die hard' as is made out. A lot of 'em soon fade away Man Utd style when the going gets tough.
I expect Troy will get stick from the home fans when we play at the Toon, which he will no doubt enjoy very much
Clive, I couldn't agree more! As I keep telling Mr IBB and anyone else in earshot, when Ardiles was boss in the early '90s (?) crowds were down to about 11,000 for Division 2 games.
