Newcastle keen on him according to 'ESPN sources' http://www.espnfc.co.uk/story/2495524/newcastle-keen-to-sign-watford-striker-troy-deeney-sources?
They can have him for £25m, strictly subject to an immediate cost free loan back to us for two seasons, with Watford having an option of keeping him for a third season for a loan fee of £1.5m.
not going to happen. Ashley isnt going to pay the money we would want, why would he leave a stable club where he is king. still fills up space on a website
Sam Cunningham @samcunningham Newcastle will bid for Troy Deeney this week. Watford want more than £10million for him. More on @MailSport soon. We can't sell him.
So we didn't sell him in the Championship when Premier League clubs came knocking. Now we're promoted people think we're actually going to sell him? Lol.
Can't believe the figures being said here? £10m? Didn't we reject around £10m this time last year? When we were just a tinpot Championship team? Deeney is now a Premier League striker, has scored over 20 goals again, must be worth at least £30m by now?
After the club have (rightly) branded him as the talisman leading us into the Premier League, with HP interviews, designing the kit etc, and of course his brilliant performances, we can't sell him for anything less than silly money.
Anyone know if there's a buy out clause in his contract eg anyone offers >£15m, he can choose to go ?
Did he? I know Burnley and Leicester were interested, but the £10m+ orice tag would have been outside of Derby's affordability range in order to stay within FFP rules.
Would be interesting to see how much Watford value Deeney. We have to remember that the Pozzos have a price for every player... So we should all be prepared for the unexpected.
That's exactly what people were saying last summer. We don't know how Troy will do in the Premier League but I can't see them letting him go to a team that could be around us in the table at the end of the season.
I can't see it either, Unless somebody offers crazy amounts. I hope he stays because I honestly think he will just keep getting better.
Do they really think we would sell him for £10m : Treble that amount and the Pozzo's might consider it, but even then they would probably think he is too much of a talisman for the team, and letting him go might have an adverse effect on the team as a whole, so I doubt they would sell at any price, for now at least!
Watford (by any entity you choose) does not value or even acknowledge or know Deeney. The owners of WFC would sell Deeney for enough money as would the owners of Messi, Ronaldo and Rooney. I am sure you got my point originally.
Please do. My point was. How much do they value Deeney? Am I not allowed to view and offer my thoughts on what other people post? Oh and excuse me for having a change of opinion. :sign15:
It's not just about the money for the Pozzos, it's about the player. As a general rule of thumb, if a player is ready to move on with their career and an appropriate offer comes in, then they'll most likely sell. The Pozzos reputation isn't built on selling when a certain figure is met, it's built on respecting players and not standing in their way when it's right for them and the club to move on. The difference here is that I can't see any reason why Troy would want to leave. There would be no logic in this happening for either party for all the same reasons we rejected 10m last summer.
If it's Troys decision, I really can't see him fLi g to a team that has just as much chance of going down as we have. A team managed by an appalling manager. I just can't see it happening. Newcastle is more of a circus of a club than people deem us to be. Would McClaren benefit Deeneys career, I don't think so.
They're not a fan of Troy on the Newcastle forums. We'll forgive them for not knowing about his record for the past 3 seasons but a goal every other game still isn't good enough for them it seems :sign1: "I bloody hope we don't go for Deeney. McClaren had a bid of £9million for him rejected in January, so he would probably cost at least £10mill+, and he's only managed 21 goals in 42 games in the Championship."
only 21 goals in 42 games? hahahahaha ive always wondered about that stuff about geordies being inbred was b*****ks, but now I know it was entirely true!
It's also about establishing WFC as a Prem club as their absolute TOP priority. They don't need to sell Troy therefore they won't. ...unless Troy insists in which case they'll probably have to do it. For silly money no doubt
I really can't see this happening fro a number of reasons. He's worth a lot more than £10m to us and only a silly bid would tempt the Pozzos under the circumstances and Ashley isn't going to pay say £15m or more for a player that hasn't proven himself at the top level. Also, it was reported that we turned down £10m or so from a few clubs back in January and since then Deeney helped us get promoted and had a third consecutive season where he has scored 20+ so surely his value has gone up since then. Another thought, Deeney didn't force a move in the past becasue he weanted to get promoted with Watford and play with Watford in the Prem so why the hell is he going to want to jump ship when he has now got exactly what he wanted.
Going nowhere for less than 15m+. Staying in the Prem is the prize we crave. Why hand the advantage to a team we want to stay up in place of? It's funny how slowly football fans adapt to a new paradigm. Our coach isn't selling anyone because he's he coach. We aren't selling anyone unless its massively in our favour because we don't have to. We won't keep staff who are replaceable at any cost.
You just know the reports are made when they quote £10mil. We rejected that amount last year and since then he's gone on to score another 20+ in a season, got promoted and signed a 5 year deal in the summer. If Ross McCormack is worth £11mil then Newcastle better start the bidding at a minimum of £20mil that's the going price for a quality English player, just ask Liverpool.
Connor Wickham reportedly cost Sunderland £15m a few years back, so Deeney must be at that level now.
I don't know that that's true. Man city wouldn't sell their best player for any price that one could reasonably expect a rival club to offer, since money simply has no real value to their owner. Similarly, if there was a price tag on Messi, I expect some crazy owner would have offered it by now. I'm not sure Barca would sell him for anything less than the gdp of a mid sized African nation. An amount which probably precludes every possible buyer in the world, except seep blaster.
