Well some don't help themselves but yes some groups of people do get a lot of generalisation written about them (are all teachers/doctors as hopeless as some make out and do all young men go out to cause a riot?)

If this was a non-Watford player we'd probably be thinking "typical young man with too much money and big ego"

Am surprised its not made the front page of the Daily Mail though!

In most cases no, but sport seems to buck the trend particularly football and rugby. This is not a recent state of affairs, look at the likes of Tony Coton who came here after a previous violence offence and turned his career around. Tony Adams is an even higher profile example who captained England and Arsenal after being convicted.

If anyone coming out of prison cannot get a job they have no chance of rehabilitation and will most probably resort to crime for the rest of their life. Fortunately for him there will be a lot of clubs that will take him on.

Personally I would give him another chance if he shows real remorse. Whilst the majority on here would probably disagree, I would much rather have him at the club than the likes of Joey Barton. Despite his endless examples of violence, clubs still queue up to give him contracts on huge wages.

It would be interesting to do a poll of who would kee him and who would throw him out. I suspect that around 80% would get rid of him.

The judge does not have juristiction over his employment. We don't know one way or the other whether the judge thinks he should get sacked or, indeed, if he cares. It's a Watford FC matter.

Made page three of The Mirror, on the same page as Holly Willoughby posting a picture of her without any slap on.

I rate Coton as the best keeper we've had in the last 30 years.

On the subject of ex Hornets..and keeping the sad theme of this thread going..I see Hendo was in court today, denying a charge of unlawful wounding.

It's difficult to make a judgement without looking at his assets as a player.

We are a family club and do a lot of work in the community and with our excellent academy. I sense that keeping Deeney would be seen by some as tarnishing our image but no worse than the clubs that took on King and Hughes, you could even include Barton and a few others. Others have rightly said that in most other walks of life there would be no way back to the day job but isn't it a double wammy to be sentenced to prison and lose your job. Retaining Deeney could help his rehabilitation and in some ways the club would not only be looking after it's (relatively small) investment but helping a young man who has made a mistake.

As a footballer I am not bothered if Deeney plays for us again as aside from a short purple patch he hasn't been that good and I think the decision should be made on moral rather than footballing terms, if that is possible.

If found guilty, I bet Henderson only gets a slap on the wrist, not 10 months!

After King, Deeney and Henderson, I'm hearing Jamie Moralee is in trouble for pulling the arm off his daughter's rag doll.

Tony Coton was the best goalkeeper ever to don the Watford goalkeeping jersey and that's a fact. For those who are not old enough to remember the eighties (and I can remember the sixties) no other goalkeeper will ever match big Tone. He regularly saved cert goals and not just shots at goal!

OK...back to the discussion on the jailbird. (Sorry Troy - I think you will have to leave the club now. I wouldn't be surprised if that was the eventual outcome)

Don't want to see him in another Watford shirt. I applaud the sentence given the disgusting circumstances. I find it laughable that people are comparing his situation to that of Tony Adams. Deeney isn't and never will be a legend in my opinion. I also find it questionable that people on twitter who are associated to him when arguing that he is not of the same ilk as ched evans, saying 'ched is a rapist...troy won a fight'...yadda yadda. This was no fight. Troy sympathisers - please stop trying to shift the blame, it's embarrassing.

You are entirely missing the point which was that his sympathisers were calling what was clearly a gratuitous act of thuggery as 'winning a fight'.

As for red mist descending? that was what his barrister was saying...I call it loutish egotistical thuggery.

I know what the barrister meant and it can happen to anyone. I haven't raised a fist in anger in ten years but can sympathise with what he is saying.

    Futile question.

    A better question would be;

'have you or your friends ever piled in outnumbering a group and and after they lay on the floor defenceless and unconscious, delivered blows/ kick to his head?'

My reply would be no, and if it were my brother in the same situation as Troy, I'd say you need a sentence to wake you up.

It can happen to anyone, yes, if put in a position that would warrant it. The only circumstances I would want to inflict such an attack would be if that person had caused my family significant harm.

His actions are totally out of order and over the top yes but Troy is not an loutish egotistical thug.

People seem to be forgetting that Deeney appears to have no right to get involved with the fight. If he wanted to avoid the conflict he would have walked away, or if he was caught up in it he should of fought himself clear. If he was caught up in it why on earth was he kicking a defenceless man in the head?

So what bracket does kicking someone in the head who is laying unconnscious on the floor fall under then?

Give me an example of thuggish/ loutish behaviour.

Blimey Kok..you look a lot younger than the 130 years old you obviously are lol :)

I only said 'in the last 30 years' because that's the length of time I've been watching! Agree with you though and a real traversty he was never capped at full international level.

You aren't reading what I'm saying. Yes I agree that his behaviour was totally wrong but you're judging someone who in the heat of the moment, and after a few drinks (I know this is no excuse) lost his head, when you don't know him. This is completely out of character for Troy and I hope the club can try help him out and sort him out. People say we're a family club, but families help those in their family that are in need of help, and this is clearly what Troy needs.

I dunno...the case involved a broken jaw too..plus he is pleading not guilty (which he may well be ofc but if found guilty, that plea would add to the severity of the sentence)

  29. LLST

What goes around also comes around, 18 months ago I had my jaw broken and two of my teeth smashed, with one having to be totally removed while a titanium plate was installed to hold my jaw together, as I tried to break up a fight. I can sympathise with both parties, it is very easy to lose your temper and when the red mist descends it is very difficult to regain control of yourself.

For some it's difficult and for some it's not so hard. For the former, prison and employment problems ensue, for the latter, peaceful lives.

If Troy was kept on by the club, it would be good to think he could be used in some sort of 'educational' capacity in the local community.

So you don't like the comparisons between Tony Adams and Troy Deeney; two players who went out, got into a fight and got a custodial sentence yet you are prepared to compare Deeney and Ched Evans where one player who went out, got into a fight and got a custodial sentence and one player who went out, drugged a girl and gang raped her with his mates?

My employer is one of the biggest in the country (85,000) employees, if you have a criminal record they wont employ you for a start and the crime committed we are talking about is instant summary dismissal
