It's looking increasingly like Gino will bank the £40m and cross his fingers. Will be interesting to see how many of our early bargain basement buys impact the first team this season. My money would be on Cardiff, HTFC and us for the bottom 3. I struggle to put an argument together of why we should expect to finish above anyone else other than luck and blind faith.
A midfield that contains Chalobah, Doucoure, Hughes, Pereyra and Deulofeu? I'd say that group of midfielders are amongst the best outside of the top 6. We've got goals all over the pitch, and we comfortably outscored or at least matched 10 or so sides last season for goals, despite Deeney and Gray getting 10 between them. We will sign players, still plenty of time left yet.
Not bad at all when fit and assuming Chalo recovers the standard he showed in most of the 5? games he played for us before injury Except upfront. We scored goals for fun in the first half of the season when Silva was here and Richie was on fire. We haven't scored away from home in the league for 37 years (i may be exaggerating). Who ? Will they be first team starters ? Will they be a goalscorer or a commanding CD ?
I would assume that Gino isn't oblivous to what's required. However we are like a lot of clubs, all waiting for the point at which players/agents/clubs all start to change their demands, and transfers become possible. I'd say probably 4/5 of the division are looking to add to their squads in the next 36 hours With regards to Deeney and Gray, I personally feel there are more goals in both of them. If both of them can reach 10 each this season then happy days
If all the players you mention were fit I would tend to agree with you, the trouble is quite a few of those players are already on the injury list and who knows when they will be fit enough to actually play for us, that is a big worry IMO.
The fixing of the deadline at an earlier date than other leagues is a strange scenario. Premier league managers will be pressuring their clubs to get their targets in and clubs could be left with an over supply of players after August 9th and unseemly fire sales could ensue to offload the surplus. It would certainly seem that it will result in Premier league teams paying too much for incoming players and not getting the value for outgoing players. Lots of brinkmanship over the next two days.
I said when this was proposed that I didn't understand this aspect and I still don't get it. To me, an earlier deadline only works if everyone - well, certainly the major European leagues - joins in. On a personal level, I'm usually on holiday on DD and rather enjoy listening to the last-minute shenanigans on the radio, but not this year...
We have added Foster, Masina and Delefeuou to the squad plus we should have Chalobah back. I would say that’s a better looking squad but each to their own
This whole loan thing is doing my head in. It’s seems to me that this is just a ready made excuse of the club “trying” to do deals but just couldn’t get them done. It’s absolute bull crap. I would understand it if they we not Premier League proven, but come on, Dawson and Ward-Prowse would improve our team and we insult their clubs by offering a cheap loan. We are making ourselves look ridiculous. Both players are worth at least £15mil in today’s market and we do have the money. I’m beginning to think the Pozzo’s are getting ready to sell us. If we get relegated this season, I’m not having any of it being Gracia’s fault. This season failings solely rest on the shoulders of Gino, Dux and the rest of the executive team. My pitchfork is being sharpened as I write this.
Want the same as Burnsy Expect the unexpected. Any of these players were linked with would improve our squad no end, Ward -Prowse Dawson both lots of experience and I wouldn't be to surprised to see them join, think it's just Gino being shroud. Alcacar and Sturo (Juventus Guy) would be fantastic on paper but would have to adapt and settle in, those two on loans makes sense as they could well fail to do so. The more I think about it my priority would be a central defender as I think Deeney and Gray will do good and I'm hoping this Penaranda proves to be twice the player Richarlison is
Disagree, I think they're both overpriced at 15 million. ...but then we paid 18 million for Gray so have at it, I suppose.
Yes, closing our window so early is the culprit here. We're not the only club having trouble making signings; far from it. The World Cup has further compressed the window that clubs are willing to do business in, with many wanting to wait until afterwards to maximise potential sale value. There will be a lot of movement at the last minute as European clubs wait until the last possible moment to accept a bid. They'd be stupid to do otherwise - we're closing so far ahead of everyone else that they need to leave players in the window as long as possible before accepting what's on offer.
That’s it, I’m off. Not looking at anything more related to Watford until the window closes. My blood pressure is increasing with rage. Hopefully I will be pleasantly surprised but I doubt it. We’re going into the season with Gray and Deeney as our strikers along Kabasele being partnered with Cathcart/Prodl. As things stand, I had us down to stay up, right now I’m beginning to have us going down with Cardiff and Huddersfield.
I am looking forward to tomorrow. There is more than enough time to put a number of derisory offers out there.
People might do well to remember that the club is responsible for none of this tittle-tattle. If you people want to tear your hair out that’s entirely down to you.
The real question for transfer deadline day is who can have the most hysterical overreaction on here.
Every deadline day we end up with a couple of rubbish low cost punts from Holland or Belgium, and we also buy a rubbish 29 year old from Luxembourg for Udinese Not expecting any different tomorrow
Been on a boat all day in 35 degree heat with my wife n 3 kids. Been drinking solidly for an hour as a result. You want hysterical give it an hour I can muster up tragical.
So with our poor dealings in the transfer market, who will join Watford in the relegation places next May?
