I've seen it a few times where people refuse to pass someone in an aisle because there's not a 2 metre gap, causing a back log throughout the store. You feel like giving them a slap and telling them there's a greater chance of catching the virus if there's 20 of us in a smaller area for 15 minutes than spread across the store. Just ******* move past quickly, most of the time they're facing the shelves anyway.

Exactly, you'll be in and out of the shop on fifteen minutes that way. People are treating it like a normal shop.

So they should just ignore the 2m rule for a while ?
Why would the others behind them bunch up if they are all adhering to the 2m rule ? If anything it should just cause a longer queue outside the store waiting to get in ?

I don't see why any of this is considered acceptable as an excuse for them endangering themselves in the current crisis and then having the temerity to criticise everyone else for not swerving to avoid them (literally and metaphorically) to prevent them from being killed.

Not saying your mum is one of those, but they are definitely prevalent from my experience. Step on your toes then look at you as if you're a piece of **** for not somehow snapping back 2m to avoid it happening.

The real issue is when everyone is 2m apart like on a F1 grid and someone realises they have walked past something they needed and need to take 5 paces back ! I've been in a shop once since 20th March (before I giot the virus) and don't plan on another visit. The weekly sainsbury's order is completed with military precision, reviewed and re-reviewed. I don't intend to queue up to enter a food supermarket ever again.

This morning it was explained by Raaaaab the PM got it wrong on the timing of returning to work. We should all be looking to start on Wednesday, not today. Silly PM.

    Such a leader.

He didn't say we should all be looking to return to work today. He said that those who can't work from home should be looking to return to work with the detailed plans and guidance for employers to be issued today as part of the 50 page guidance. Only a fool would take yesterday's broadcast to mean we should be turning up at work 9am today without any guidance issued for employers yet, or maybe someone with an axe to grind who's looking for any opportunity to criticise ??

It wasn't crystal clear though. There was guidance of when we could all go out more but like a lot of what is said in many of the Government briefings it lacked detail on almost everything else. The general feeling of what is expected is there but by leaving time between the speech and giving out detailed information means differing interpretations surface causing confusion and doubt.

If they want to make statements and lead the country then orchestrate the speech and give details at the same time so there is no doubt. They manage to give anonymous press briefings everyday on matters so I'm pretty sure they should be able to get a recorded speech and this guidance booklet out at the same time.

I know nobody was realistically expected to turn up for work today but in a pre-recorded message everything should be made plain and all doubt removed.

The graphic I posted yesterday from Johnsons twitter feed is a case in point. It said to 'Keep your distance from people when out (2m where possible.)' Is 2m not so important now? When did that change and why is it not such a strict measure anymore? That's the kind of problem I have with yesterdays address and most of the daily briefings they give - inconsistent and open to interpretation.

As someone mentioned above - why is France exempt from any future quarantine regulations when coming here by plane? Will boat/ferry passengers be under the same stipulations? Euro tunnel passengers?

Vague directions every time. And yes I'm biased. At the same time it's easy for someone like me who has limited political intelligence to pick holes or who just fails to understand the message being put across because it's wrapped up in so much waffle.

I'd be a lot more understanding of the Government's failings in relation to this virus if they recognised their own limitations and admitted some mistakes rather than try to cover up or ignore where things have gone wrong - I think the majority of people realise it's an almost impossible job to contain and control the thing. By trying to paint what has happened here as an 'apparent success' just fuels mistrust and more cynicism from those of us who aren't naturally behind the Tory cause.

I *think* it's to do with cross-channel traffic. If it comes from France then it's 'French' so the drivers can pass through our borders unhindered.

We're taking back control (subject to whatever the French conditions/quarantine regulations are for goods/persons entering French territory from its borders).

It’s an estimate isn’t it, produced from a model. So as good as the assumptions and the data used.

    Is the model methodology public?

Moog didn't say 'old people shouldn't be there' followed by a panicky 'I didn't say old people shouldn't be there' when asked about it. Like you did. Which you continue to deny. Despite it being right there.

Anyway, I like you as a poster and the majority of what you post so I'm not going to keep on about it as the thread will go off track HB1 style.

It was never a strict measure though. It's a guideline, an illustration of the type of distance we need to maintain from other people when outside. However, there will sometimes be occasions where it's not possible. Not through choice or because you're with a group of mates and you want to sit next to them, but because you're on a pavement with a wall on one side and a traffic barrier on the other and so you can only walk past a person coming the other way around 1.5m apart.

Sorry but I don't really get where any genuine doubt arises?

The problem I had with Boris's speech yesterday was the return to work from Monday bit and the who can go out and with whom bit, if he had said return to work from Wednesday if you can, and also said this is an outline of the measures in England and I will give further details tomorrow I wouldn't have had a problem with it.

    So it lacked some clarity.

It seemed a pretty strict distance when they first announced it.

The softening tone of the message now may mean it's disregarded more often now even though we're still meant to be keeping a reasonable distance. By his own admission the R rate is only just under the acceptable number. I would like language which sets out strict measures on such things because as has been spoken of on here in regard of shopping, for example, people are pretty lax with what was supposed to be done while the rate of infections was at its highest. To keep it under control surely that message has to remain forceful.

Either way though people will end up doing what they want. Employers will interpret the guidelines as best suits them and infections will rise whatever measures are put in place and however they're communicated. I'm just not impressed by how it's being done. Back to my bunker for now.

    To be fair to Boris, he didn't say Monday, he actually said;
"We said that you should work from home if you can, and only go to work if you must. We now need to stress that anyone who can’t work from home, for instance those in construction or manufacturing, should be actively encouraged to go to work.

And we want it to be safe for you to get to work. So you should avoid public transport if at all possible – because we must and will maintain social distancing, and capacity will therefore be limited. So work from home if you can, but you should go to work if you can’t work from home. And to ensure you are safe at work we have been working to establish new guidance for employers to make workplaces Covid-secure. And when you do go to work, if possible do so by car or even better by walking or bicycle. But just as with workplaces, public transport operators will also be following Covid-secure standards"

It was the media and Starmer that said "Monday". I can't see how anybody can expect it to be for Monday when Boris said that there will be new guidance for employers to become Covid-19 secure, but that is the media and Labour for you.

I didn't see that bit, but in my profession the sooner the horses and the 3* big sports start the better it is for my job.

    * In the UK football, golf and tennis are seen as the biggest sports in terms of turnover in my industry.

Yes - makes sense to let people back playing golf potentially where you can social distance easily.
