Yes you are right. Professional fees as well. However the small business owners brining in, say, 60k aren’t likely to have much to fall back on either with mortgages to pay, kids etc. If we think they are “bad” in someway then I’d disagree, but the point is when Sunak says the Tories are helping everyone he’s patently lying.

edit: the reason being even if you can furlough yourself which I don’t see how, Sunak is saying you are only covered for a small proportion of your income and everyone else gets 80%. I post this as a PAYE person in a big company.

  2. Ive owned several limited companies in my time so let’s not try and pull the wool over each others eyes. I know why you prefer income through dividends, heck I did too. But you pays your money you take your chances.

I work PAYE for a big company so my personal circumstances are not impacted. If I was furloughed by my employer should I be punished by Sunak’s scheme because I put a load of my salary in a pension because it was tax efficient?? Should that salary be excluded from the 80%? (And as obvious and commonplace a strategy as a company owner taking a dividend).

  5. It was a response to LTC's assertion that dividends are 'just part of a company's profits' In reality a small one-man-band company and a sole trader are for all intents and purposes interchangeable. The extra costs of having a company rather than a sole tradership are not huge. Even the idea of paying your wife part of the dividend is replicable for a sole trader by making her a partner. The higher turnover thing may be in general true-ish, but certainly not universal. I finished some accounts yesterday for a company with a turnover of £48,000 and profits of £32,000. As far as I can tell, he will only be entitled to the 80% of the £1,000 a month he pays himself as salary. People also set up companies for the limited liability factor. You are also missing the tens of thousands of companies that were set up under IR35.

No, I’m not saying bad. The World has changed a lot and I appreciate lots of people at lower and middle stratas are not PAYE.

I think there will be a level for which support is inappropriate, the Fiona Bruce or Jimmy Carr level for example, but there are a fair few people in-between them and the Government’s assistance scheme. A simple threshold is not helpful to discern all who do need help and those do not.

If this goes on would be concerned about how many small/medium sized Ltd companies seeing this as the chance to raid the piggy bank & put themselves into liquidation & buy back any assets as a better option.

Covid will be the perfect excuse & you can't really argue with it.

Another one for the list was Dexters estate agents, made all staff come in and pulled the blinds down on their shops to try and hide it. Sent an internal memo saying we know all the other agents have closed ‘but we haven’t got to where we’ve got to by doing the same thing as everyone else’ and that their customers needed them.

To be honest, I can't see it being all that difficult to avoid those companies anyway. For a start off, I haven't been in a Gammonspoons since 2016 anyway, partly because of Tim the Tramp's politics, but mainly because I don't wish to be surrounded by the sort of people who wouldn't get out of the bath if they needed a ****.

As for the rest of them, surely no one over the age of 16 ever goes in Sports Direct anyway.

Next??? A pimped up Tesco clothing section at best. I don't think I've ever bought anything in Next, but then again, I don't wear elasticated jeans.

Halfords??? I genuinely had no idea it was still going, what do people buy in Halfords now that no one buys Haynes manuals anymore?

Carluccios??? He's dead isn't he? Mind you, I didn't mind him, it's that other Italian ****head that shouts all the time on Saturday Kitchen that I can't be doing with.

Wouldn’t wish it on him, but at least there isn’t much chance of him spreading it to his kids.

Halfords is an important shop for anyone who wants to buy a bike so heavy it’s like pedalling a JCB.

Saw that video of Dominic Cummings running out of Number 10. I guess he doesn't believe in herd immunity after all.

Unless he thinks he’s a cert to have already been infected and wants to get out there and share with as many as possible.

181 more died in the UK bringing the total to 759.

I expect it to break 1000 tomorrow. It looks like we are heading towards the peak now.

    Stay safe guys and gals

When I say heading towards the peak, I mean the daily numbers are going to rise for at least the next 7-10 days.

We all knew where we were heading and what’s coming. They don’t fill the excel centre with 4000 beds for no reason, deaths will go up up every day for the next 10 days or so. Things will get worse before they get better as has been the case since our first case.

Italy have just had their highest ever daily death rate (919) despite hoping the plateau wasn't far off.

Despite the orange oaf's ever more nonsensical 'reassurances', it looks like the USA, particularly in the New York area, is going to be by far the worst case.

    How did you get tested?

Well, actually I just have the classic symptoms, fever, really bad cough and shortness of breath and I called and an ambulance for an elderly neighbour (who was tested positive later) last week and stupidly got too close waiting for the ambulance to turn up.

    So I don't know for 100% sure.
