Covid-19 Virus

Discussion in 'Taylor's Tittle-Tattle - General Banter' started by Hornet4ever, Jan 30, 2020.

  1. We will end up I suspect with a situation similar to the flu. This thing will be around forever, will mutate, and vaccine offered annually.

Pretty irresponsible under the current circumstances. Solar panels, barbed wire, vegetable seeds/plants/tubers and some chickens would have been more sensible. It's probably not too late to return it ?

Just had a quick scan of the last 2 pages and from what I understand, Covid-19 has become sentient? We're truly ****ed

The key is going to be getting a negotiating team together to reason with the virus' representatives. There is room on this planet for us to live side by side. It may be we can strike a deal whereby we sacrifice the over 80s and abandon the vaccine, in return for those under 80 being untouched.

**** that, I'd rather walk away with no deal and allow Mr Covid to consume us all, than have some ****** watered down Vaccine+++ arrangement

I think ultimately they knew they couldn't control it and it had probably already been spreading in China for a number of months by then. By that point, the CCP felt it was better to let it spread beyond their borders so there would be less international focus on them. I remember in January/February there was plenty of footage coming out of China, both media and private, which obviously didn't go down well with the CCP.

Very true, but I suspect the Chinese covering-up the outbreak is honestly little more than a footnote. It seems inevitable at this point that virus was already outside of their borders before anyone became aware of it as a distinct entity, so practically speaking them going public early would have likely made no difference.

The majority of nations did nothing until they were forced to. Even if China had not covered it up and acted immediately, sharing all information, it seems inevitable we'd be where we are now. China isn't responsible for EU nations closing down too slowly. It's not responsible for the complete lack of US government response that has now lead to a figure rapidly approaching 500,000 dead. Even once the rest of the world knew, most nations did nothing.

My understanding is that the EU has the Pfizer Beyoncé vaccine whereas our Astra Zeneca one was produced by Cher and also that I need my ears tested.

Our small business got some vaccines offered to it today by the local village health authority.

We arranged the staff in age, oldest to youngest, excluding the ones already eligible off their own back (i.e. over 65s). We then started at the top of the list and called down offering the vaccine, top to bottom.

Somewhat amazingly, out of 13 people we spoke to today, only 3 of them wanted it (and one of those 3 couldn't as she is currently nursing). Incredible stuff.

Yeah my dad (75) had his in Croxley last week. Got the call the day before. They're clearly progressing down the list.

It seems a lot of people in the BAME communities are/were turning it down and they are having to get a media campaign to dispel myths about the vaccines (i.e. that they don't have animal products in them)

Harrow are a little ahead of Hillingdon regarding age groups.

As the media does its best to help the Government justify lockdown by continuously pumping out lurid propaganda from the ‘frontline’ designed to keep people petrified of Covid, stats smuggled out yesterday showed another 800,000 people out of work (2.6 million now) while urgent breast cancer referrals were down 32.6% year on year. The response to this virus will claim many more lives than the disease itself

I do find it extraordinary that you are still at this point 10 months in.

No one likes the restrictions and the interruption to ordinary care is a disaster. But even with the restrictions that have been imposed we are 100k dead with at least another 50k to come.

The media reporting of this is not ‘lurid propaganda’. It is generally careful testament to the lives lost across many ages and all social classes. How could more than 100k excess deaths be ignored? That would be propaganda Soviet style. Nothing to see, go back to sleep Britain.

Surely by now you can see that unrestricted the hospitalisations would have overwhelmed the health service? A few of the middle-aged sad acts who converse on here would be hospitalised or dead. Maybe you or I as the disease reaches ever younger.

What we needed was tougher consistent action early to eradicate. But we’ve run scared of the economy, of British ‘freedoms’ for foreign holidays, Xmas whatever. Our response has fitful, inconsistent. And there is a price for that.

Five serving Metropolitan Police officers die with coronavirus this month. Not all in the front line, but it shows that any service dealing with the public will have individuals who could be vulnerable.

Yes - seems they just don't trust the medical professional due to historical racism etc.

Are't they one of the groups most at risk too from the virus?

Yes, only slightly, it has been reported that low vitamin D levels could lead to a more severe effect of Covid.

But have the restrictions had any significant impact on the death rate?
Re the reporting, much of it is lurid. Let's have less interviews with NHS staff saying how upset they are. We need to hear more positivity. Yes, the situation is difficult and tough at times but doctors are nurses are doing the job they have trained for - so let's have more emphasis on the (majority of) patients that recover thanks to the expertise and dedication of medical professionals.

Restrictions do work. You see all over that they do, from New Zealand to South Korea to Finland. They are just implemented and work more or less well.

What do you believe would be the situation in the UK without them? It seems likely that there is about a 1% death rate potential in the UK, maybe 500k, with a further couple of percentage points for serious ill-health and hospitalisations. They only recover if the health service can cope. This maxing out of the health service would affect anyone needing emergency care, prolong the disruption to ongoing treatments.

None of this can be ignored as far as I can see.

From that article, I'd say the BAME community's reluctance to get jabbed is, in part, a result of being continually lied to about their circumstances and whipped up into a state of grievance by activists for whom racism is an all consuming obsession
