Does the promotion still count even though we didn't beat enough top 8 sides?

Am I the only person to have woken up this morning just a little sad that this amazing season will soon be over? It's just been the most unbelievable weeks, the tension of watching us AND trying to follow our rivals' matches too, watching the table change as much as three times every Saturday, watching us time our run just right and sneak under the radaretc..

I'm delighted to be up, it's such a great feeling, it's like a cork coming out of a wine bottle, the relief, the explosion of joy....
but just a little regret it'll soon be all over for the summer!

I had a brilliant(ly long) write up about yesterday including my opinions of how the match went and the fan from where I was standing (S1A which was the right-side corner nearest to the home fans) but unfortunately the forums website has gone a bit **** up and it hasn't saved what I have written so I'll summarise it like this.

The players were all amazing but stand-outs were Gomes, Deeney, Vydra and Cathcart. The fans were all amazing- it's no wonder that Brighton fans have said that we were the best fans to come to the Amex this season. The ref was slightly biased towards us which is a surprise seeing as he supports the scum, but I'm not complaining. The celebrations in Brighton when we found out we had got promoted was just amazing (unfortunately for my mates and I, it was short-lived as we had to go back to Watford). That match was for my friend's dad (who passed away before the Norwich game and who might have been, if you believe in that, watching down on the Orns) and for Nic Cruwys, who will hopefully be fit enough to see the opening Premier League fixture in a sunny Vicarage Road.

In Slav we trust. We are going up!!! #fornicforpromotion

Agreed. What do people say about new stadia not having atmosphere?!?

The Amex is a brilliant example of a modern purpose built ground, with decent infrastructure and transport connections. I think its inevitable that when we've been in the PL for few seasons, and are knocking in the door of Europe, major redevelopment will have to be considered. And it will need to be more than sticking another layer on the SEJ stand and putting a restaurant in the SW corner!

Has anyone got a link to the sand of God missed header for Brighton yesterday?

Look at 1 hour 29 minutes and 45 seconds of the match above HELGO and watch the backspin on the ball as it hits that immortalized piece of sand. ;)

Thanks Smudger. I wanted to try and get the clip on its own, but I am not that clever at I.T.

Oh well I'll just relive via he clip below. Cheers.

If I can I will try and get the clip for you or if someone else on the forum can I am sure they will help out HELGO. :) I think there was a collective tightening of stomachs, dry throats, sharp intakes of breath, white fingernails and clenched buttocks as that ball just went wide.

  11. What an amazing day. I cycled from the station to the stadium with a lovely bloke who turned out to be Attilla the Stockbroker. I've got to say that Brighton is an absolute model of how to be a football club, and their fans are top notch. I believe they have had 19k renewals of STs in spite of their crappy season, and I can believe it as the matchday experience is so, well, nice!

The second half was I think the longest 45 minutes I have ever experienced! The events of yesterday are only now beginning to sink in. I can't decide whether I want Bournemouth to lose tomorrow so Lloyd can get a run out, or draw so that we can win the Championship on Saturday.

Thanks smudger, it just looked like a missed header from where I stood but can quite believe the significance of the sandy divot. Possibly the difference between £100 million and £0

I was in line with the header and it looked like the ball was on its way into the net. Can only now see the Sand of God played it's part. The omens were on our side!

And beyond that £165M for the following season HELGO. ;) The mind does boggle. It will make us one of the richest clubs in the world even more than many of the historical heavyweights in the major European leagues.

Agree with the comments regarding the Amex and In particular the Brighton fans, who were just terrific afterwards.

Indeed. One of the best stadiums I've visited with the fans, both home and away, at the forefront of how they do things. A fabulous day out and the only disappointment is that they aren't coming up with us.

Amazing day out yesterday, the perfect away day

Heart attack inducing last 5 minutes with Vydra sending the away end into pandemonium with an amazing goal right at the death. We then had a party for 2-3 hours outside the stadium in the sunshine, cheered the team bus off on its journey back to Watford.

Arrived back in the town centre just in time to hear the news we were promoted, fans were dancing in the street, blocking off traffic, before we all headed down to the beach, lots of boozing, fish and chips and a few nutters swimming naked in the cold sea

    So,as I was saying...

    That went quite well!

Just spent the day tutoring and all the candidates, especially Scott, who knows Sean Murray could talk about was WFC-fine by me!

Slightly off topic but on the FFC fourth goal, it makes me laugh with the other player up with McCormack is directing him towards the Boro goal!

What a great day, even Claridge seemed quite kind to us last night or was I hallucinating?

i think turf would have taken the spin & weight out of the ball just as the sand of god did...i don't think that we owe the groundsman too much

That second half was the longest I've ever watched at a football match. The Absoloute scenes in the away end when Vydra scored were amazing. After celebrating and having a few pints we went back to Brighton and eventually ended up in the Spoons ( I know, I know...) but the celebrations in there were amazing, absolutely incredible lads.

The relief when Vydra scored was incredible. Was brilliant play from Deeney to stay composed and release the ball when he did. How Watson managed to play on near the end I do not know. He could hardly move but still stayed on his feet and defended - yet another example of the great desire the players have shown to get promotion.

Massive credit to Joka for making the change so early and to the patch of sand also. Was cricket-esque the way the ball span!

  34. 99mph

Some of it might be the sand, some could just be due to ball rotation.

  35. Arakel

On one of the angles you can see a spurt of sand shoot up into the air on contact.

Make no mistake, the sand patch had a significant impact to the ball's direction.
