Zola did waaaaay more for us than Sannino. Zola allowed a hodgepodge of Udinese cast offs to develop quality English Championship players. I genuinely doubt Abdi, Vydra, Forestieri et al would be half as a good for us without Zola's guidance. Our team is still (generally) built on the same attacking force Zola built, Jokanovic just took it to the next level by applying tactical prowess.

Agreed. If any manager should be there on Saturday, it's Frankie.

  5. Fair comment; I don't particularly agree with it though. I think if he had good English it would have been a very different story. I think an English Beppe would have been more than capable of getting a side promoted from the Championship; far better manager than Holloway, who has done it a couple of times, as have a number of managers I would say are no way better than Beppe.

They certainly did get it right with Slav, no two ways about it. But for me, that doesn't mean we can't thank Beppe for his very positive contribution to our Championship season. Bit Churlish to dismiss what he did, and the contribution his much criticized training made to the our success.

Oh, I'm sure he helped significantly with communication. That was the main reason Joka wanted an English assistant, after all. I've got no doubt that it's easier to man manage if you're fluent in a language and I'm sure a native English speaker on the coaching staff has improved Joka's own English.

All the same, I doubt that improved communication would translate to instant results. If the communication was radically improved (and lets note that Martinez speaks very good English, plus Alec was around at that point too) it would take time for the improved communication to help cement Joka's approach because you'd have to assume he'd be having issues getting his point across. Given our form suddenly improved right as Austin joined I just can't see an argument that the foundations were not already there.

I have no doubt that removing the moaners would have an instant impact, though. Firstly, it's a massive kick up the arse for everyone who is left: shape up or ship out. Secondly, it will improve morale by weeding out dissenters and "bad vibe" types. I'm sure Austin's presence contributed to our improve defensive solidarity later on in the season but I do believe it would have taken time to kick in.

There's no doubt that all of the coaching staff have done a great job, though!

  7. I would be glad to see Zola there; a very loveable chap. Sadly, a pretty carp manager when it came down to it. I seriously believe that another manger could have got us up that season, though I think in the long run it was for the best that we didn't go up. The quality of teams in the top six were way below this year, and sadly we were the biggest chokers in the Championship when it came to a big match, with the exception of the Leicester game. Every time victory would have achieved something, we choked. Lovely bloke, but his overall record speaks for itself, and where Slav is an improvement on Beppe, Beppe was an improvement on Zola.

I would love to sing songs at him sometime over the weekend to tell him how much I love him, and I am eternally grateful for some of the football we played under him and the Leicester match, but not a great manager.

    I think Zola's a great coach.

He's just not a great head coach.

I'd love to have him back at the club as an attacking coach. After watching his Youtube videos where he demonstrated how to approach various techniques, I felt like I could go and play for Chelsea after 10 minutes of watching him.

The foundation stone for promotion was laid when Beppe brought players back for post season training after the Huddersfield home defeat debacle ..

That no nonsense approach was followed through by tough pre-season fitness training - and that has shown up by the points we've won in the last minutes of games this season.

Compare the points lost last season at the end games when players were 'tired'.

I hope Beppe is there on Saturday

Of course Beppe contributed to our success. Deeney thought so and he sees a lot more of the training ground than we do.

I appreciate that Sannino wasn't going to get us up especially with the way it was going before he left, but that doesn't mean what he contributed to the team is null and void.

I think a lot of Watford fans remember how close we came to going up, and use that as justification for saying we should have.

We'd just had a huge amount of players come in who had never played in England and who had to adapt to the league - many didn't. We didn't start the season with Deeney, Ighalo and Vydra, we started it with Vydra, Garner and Iwelumo. Our left wing backs weren't Anya, Layun and Pudil, they were Pudil, Fanchone and ****inson. A midfield of Abdi, Chalobah and Hogg looks great in hindsight, but behind them were Murray and Smith - now, we've had Abdi, Guedioura and Watson starting with Tozser and Munari in reserve. Zola performed miracles in getting the squad to perform as well as it did in such a short space of time.

But not over a statistically significant sample. That said he deserves credit for his efforts, his magnanimity and his kind words on our promotion. Likewise we all wish him continued success in the football world. It is unsurprising that he feels this connection with the so called ordinary fan given the route he took into the game.

I liked Beppe, he took on a few players in the dressing room that were a bit big for their boots and needed a bit of discipline after Zola..

Talking players of that ilk, why didn't the club sack Lloyd Dyer after he called Slav a c@@t on the pitch, he doesn't seem very keen on a loan move and happy to pick up the wages, he's contracted next year as well probo with a bonus if we stay up.

When you're a successful manager with a CV to back it up, then you can crack the whip. When you're a no-mark manager with a dozen lower league clubs and been sacked from all of them...then you don't take on player power, you use them to your advantage. It's called 'man management' and every bit as important as tactical nous.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...Beppe overestimated supporter influence in England. In Italy, the Ultras have alot of influence within clubs. They storm the training facilities, influence 'no shows' at matches and I've even seen them stop a game from taking place. So the clubs appease and tolerate them. Beppe tried cosying up to supporters and get them onside but it was never going to work here.

Bottom line he is a poor manager which has been confirmed by his failures since he resigned.

Yea could of been, we had a few that year..

Dyer on his three year deal and promotion bonus and probo staying up bonus will be picking up at least 3 mill and maybe nearer 4mill over that time, he has to go down with Vega, Moralee and Ellington as one of the worst singings financially.

    No arguments there.

  25. Not arguing with your reasoning, but I don't think it is well directed at Beppe.

l don't agree that he was a poor manager either. What he has done afterwards is irrelevant. He did steady the ship, he did so with a team that had problematic elements who were not removed until after he left (almost immediately once we had a settled manager), and set a team up that would go on to gain promotion, gave them a start to the season that allowed them to do so, and managed one of the most battling performances I have seen either before or since.

His real problem was language, and it proved too much for him. He did resign. He was not sacked. And I don't doubt that even if he had got us promotion, that he too would have been replaced by Quique, just like Slav.

We got him to do a job, and he was on the way to doing it. What he is now I don't know, but he was not a poor manager for us.

Don't forget that he only had one close season and after that the players were probably fitter in 2014 than any other start of season I can remember. His 5 league matches at the start of the season yielded 4 wins out of 5, the only defeat being with 10 men for 88 minutes.

So, did Beppe play his part in last season's promotion? Yes he damn well did.

Without the 12 points we earned under Beppe in his first five games and the fitness he installed in the players in pre season we wouldn't be in the Premier League now.

We really do have some ungrateful morons in our fanbase.

I'll always appreciate the job he did for us. Wasn't the right man to take us forward but as others have mentioned, we wouldn't be where we are right now if not for him, and his brutal pre-season.

Seems the job at Carpi was always an unlikely one to keep, the fans were chanting the old HC's name during Beppe's first win. The owners have appeased the fans and brought the old bloke back now.

He was the biggest disappointment ever, more so than Ellington, the fee we paid for us at that time was huge..

Him getting Daniella Westbrook up the duff seemed to take his eye off the ball some what.

Ahh that subjective reasoning of yours again...so it's not possible that another manager could have gotten those 12 points?

No you're right....ONLY Beppe could have gotten those.

Do you wipe it on the curtains after you jacked off to his poster?

He resigned because he wasn't backed and to be honest he should have been sacked that summer after the horrendous run towards the end of the season.

Sorry I think he was sh!t...his record leading up to and after his appointment lay testimony to that.
