I'd happily play in a crap team for £128 million over 5 years.

Similar description about the Galaxy in todays Times, compared them to Crewe. Looks like he wasn't quite aware how poor the standard was whilst trying to count the zero's on his contract offer.

I was indeed one of say 20 LARS there. We had a good time laughing at all the people who paid $75 to watch these shyte games.

Nobody went to this game except people who THOUGHT they were going to see Beckham, or who got free tix.

First, you had to buy a ticket to THIS game in order to see the Galaxy vs Chelsea match Saturday, and clearly many people chose not to brave rush hour traffic on a Tuesday night for an exhibition match featuring an unpopular Mexican team against the Beckham-less Galaxy followed by Chelsea against an unknown Korean team. No season tickets accepted that night.

There was ZERO interest in this game.

I went because it is right down the road a way from my house, and I have a buddy who works at a local radio station who got free passes. I spent much of the time up in the Stadium Club, because when you get a chance to eat prawn sandwiches with the barstewards, ya take it.

That being said, the Galaxy played all the new guys and a lot of 2nd teamers, were shockingly bad, and showed NO heart. They haven't played with the same lineup twice all season, and most players barely know one another's name yet. Reportedly, one guy asked who David Beckham was last week...he was joking, but the point was made.

Saturday, the Galaxy play Chelsea, and LARS has rented a quaint little double decker bus to booze cruise around in beforehand. Should be a blast! We'll be in great form for that game...if only the Galaxy will return the favor. All the season ticket holders will be there and it'll be fun.

On the way to Chelsea v Galaxy

Dave only played 12 minutes, but it was a lot of goddam fun...
Note: we do not have these things in America, but somehow we found one and taunted the hundreds of Chelsea fans in the lot as we passed them, and all they could do is throw celery. What total losers.

Perhaps MLS signed the wrong Beckham

    I read this somewhere:
    Posh's ratings - 4.9 million viewers
    Davids ratings - 1.47 million

I watched David live, and the Posh tv show. I rather enjoyed both more than I expected.

The ratings thing is good news for those of us on the US that enjoy football...good ratings = more interest in televising = more fans = more football=happy me.

The Posh show was great. The Yanks don't seem to have realised that she was taking the pish! Fitz, tell your friends and colleagues that they are ignorant

Well we heard plenty over here that the show was panned by critics and people generally didn't get it. Posh was just taking the mick out of her media stereotype but maybe it got lost in translation!

First, you have to be an idiot to really enjoy reality tv...Having said that, I watched her show and rather enjoyed it the way I liked Ozzy's show...

I might ask what your sources were for the info that said we hated it?

The BBC, quoting various tv critics. Critics are an odd bunch at the best of times though...

True enough. Most of us thought Posh would be a waste of space and oxygen at first, but even so, we bought her a season ticket in Sec 138.

Since then, we've grown to like her, though I don't think she 'gets' us yet.

i guess the la riot squad are unlikely to be operating out of fresco (yeah! i feel so confident having been bought up on american tv to refer to san francisco as frisco! solid!)

    Al Frisco!

I must say that the LARS boys do look awfully cool in those t-shirts and blazers.

I wish I were a yank, or maybe a Canadian, a yank with a sense of irony and dignity.

And tell Section 18 Holligan he is my hero! WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  20. Fitz

Ha...only people who don't live there call it Frisco...people who DO live there simply call it "the City".

Anyway, we are VERY excited that San Jose (suburb of SF) is getting an expansion club in 2008. They used to have a team but it moved two years ago to Houston to become Houston Dynamo.

LARS had a great rivalry with them when they were there, and we will so again. We are talking thrown batteries, full beers landing inthe supporters group, cops escorting us in and out, just like South America. They really really really hate LA Galaxy and the feeling is mutual.

Backdrop for this is a fissure between resource (water, agriculture, land, and technology) rich Northern California and highly overpopulated (read: vote rich) deserty, thirsty hungry hubris laden Southern California.

Typical scenario is votes made to spend tax money building pipelines for water from Norcal down to LA, using eminient domain to get the land and displace farmers and people, all because LA needs 1,000,000 more people. People up north are very conservation oriented, but here, not so much...

I was raised in NorCal to hate SoCal. I still kind of do, and detest SoCal colleges and sports teams and plastic fakey fakey culture (Welcome Posh!), but for some reason the only LA team I like is the Galaxy.

    Were you born in Eureka?

Ad this is indeed good news. It means that you can get to two away games a season!

Not to be confused (but often is) with Yreka...but no.
Born Mather Air Force Base just outside of Sacramento, schooled at the University of California, Berkeley. Go Bears!

Anyway, yes, this is GREAT news. We can actually make the drive up in rented buses like you all can do in Ingerland since it's only 7-8 hours away at 55 mph (88 kph?). These are known to us as Booze Buses...cause that's what we do: get drunk and support the Galaxy in weird ways.

My liver & I are not on speaking terms.

Did you know that the exact centre of America is the Wichita Air Base? It's so good they named a record label after it. You see, I'm bombarding you with my America knowledge!

Anyway, it takes 8 hours to get to another place in your state? Blimey charlie.

Oh, and here in Angleterre we use MPH, not KPH.

More from Cal/Oregon border to Cal/Mexico border. Maybe 16 hours?

Glad to hear the Metric nazis left you with something.
I like the distance, weight and volume measurements, but prefer the Farhenheit system for temperature. Slightly finer scale, y'know?
40C can be a range of like 4 degrees F...rather sloppy.

By the way, what the hell is a 'stone'?

  25. Y&P

    Y&P Squad Player

    1 stone is 14 lbs.

I weigh about 210 lbs (pounds), like the boxers, and I believe that is around 90 kgs. I'M A FAT BARSTEWARD.

    Degrees celcius rock the partay.

Miles, yards, centremetres make up the cetera of my measurement things.

Well, the pound sterling once was a pound of sterling sliver was it not?
100C is the boiling point of water, 0C the freezing point.
The quart is the exact size of the thing I get milk in...see? Not arbitrary.

  33. Y&P

    Y&P Squad Player

What is a quart of milk?

And they made those the chemical properties of water because it fit easily into our units of heat measurement. Didn't they?

  34. fan

originally it was 0C for boiling and 100C for freezing.
