Overall the BBC's news and current affairs is really not a 'disgrace' and you need to take a look at your own news sources and their behaviour first.

There appears to have been wrong doing here, which may have been covered up. We'll find out, but it's not reasonable to extrapolate that all the fine journalists the BBC has and has had (John Simpson, Orla Guerin etc etc etc for pages) behaved like Bashir did 25 years ago.

If you want to be taken seriously, wait for the independent enquiry and even then don't extrapolate wildly. As an avid reader of the Murdoch press you really shouldn't.

What do you find wrong with it? I watch very little TV these days but when I do, BBC News is one of the few programmes I watch.

It’s their sports coverage which is more of a problem, OK pundits/commentators but too many lame attempts at humour in the presentation and time wasted on tedious montages.

It's just blah. No real depth or incisveness of analysis. Laura Kuennsberg sums it up for me - she's not a patch on someone like John Cole.

As for the website: much too much reliance on social media as indicative of 'what people think'.

Completely agree. Think Ive said it elsewhere but it's all about the presenters these days rather than the actual facts. Watch BBC news tonight and you'll see.

News Anchor " Blah Blah Story, we go over to our VIP editor in chief regarding this subject, John Reporter, John"
John Reporter "Thanks News Anchor. Blah blah story, blah blah my opinion for twice as long. Back to news anchor in the studio"
News Anchor " Thanks John. That was John Reporter our expert and know all about this subject"

It's name drops everywhere and more opinion than fact.
Peston was the worst and probably started the ball rolling. His Covid conference questions took longer to say nothing than than the whole update meeting itself. At least he's on ITV now which I don't think I've watched in at least 4 years.

The WWW site used to be excellent. Probably the best place for unbiased news reviews sport now it's all social interaction.

Andrew Neil is about the only decent presenter left.

How dare they treat the Princess Of Our Hearts like this!!!

Thank you so much for raising this extremely important issue 25 years after the event!!

The political reporters like Kuenesberg and Nick Robinson leave much to be desired, but the medical, education and science correspondents are great and the foreign correspondents set the absolute gold standard for bravery and reporting. And let’s face it Andrew Marr is excellent whether people like him or not.

BBC just needs to get back to presenting info in as uncompromising a manner as possible. The perceived need to be ‘down with the peeps’ is just another example of the insidious effect of having to prove its ‘worth and relevance’ in the face of unsubstantiated attacks by Murdoch & his cohorts.

This whole thing is a typical example of the MEDIA attempting to CREATE the news instead of just reporting it IMO

What comes across loud and clear from this is that you’ve clearly never done a single thing in your life, public services, volunteering, whatever of any benefit to anyone else.

I've have you know Peston broke the news on the financial crash. Had he not done so we may have all missed it and we can always be grateful for that.

It’s just that you are so removed from how these things work, so ready to accuse people trying to do good of terrible things. Tell me, do you think Esther set it up to benefit paedos? If not how did they hijack it?

While we are on Saville, how far does the conspiracy go for you? Did Maggie know when she invited him for Xmas dinner? What about the Queen when she knighted him?

    Who knows ?
But he clearly knew where the bodies were buried
Whatever happened to Jill Dando anyway ?

Helluva leap from having an opinion on childline\crimewatch to assuming that I don't man a cake stall
    at the local fete .

Calling everyone at childline or crimewatch ‘paedos’ isn’t an ‘opinion’ it’s an allegation. One you clearly have no evidence to substantiate, but appears to be drawn from your view that anyone trying to do anything ‘good’ must be suspect.

Which is why I conclude you yourself must have no truck with do-gooding and therefore have never done anyone any good.

Hey everyone . Listen to this clown attempting to attribute words to myself that I never said .
The only person using the word "paedos" is Moose.
And if anyone cares to Google crimewatch\childline\front they will see that there are many esteemed
journalists and organisations that share the same concerns as myself.
Lastly I don't have to explain myself to the likes of you . I'm comfortable with my contributions to the community that I live in .

Surprised at you @zztop. Do you really agree with Davyboy that the purpose of BBC Crimewatch is to ‘gather information to protect certain people’?

No, I liked the post for correctly pointing out you were making things up in #51.

I did, and he didn't call everyone at Childline or Crimewatch "paedos" that was just a lie of yours.

He brought in Saville and then talked about Childline and Crimewatch protecting ‘certain’ people. As Saville was the only person mentioned it’s hardly an unreasonable inference. If not Saville, then who?

Don’t start down this silly road just to have a go at me. His post was ridiculous and deplorable. Have the bottle to stand up for people who do good work rather than wallow in this cesspit of accusation.

If his post was ridiculous and deplorable, then attack what he has written rather than what he hasn't written. It isn't rocket science.

Had you been honest and maybe asked him to explain what he was getting at instead, then if I saw that he was accusing one of my faves at the time, Sue Cook from Crimewatch, then I would have probably joined you.

I did concentrate on what he wrote. He wrote something particularly daft.

Is there any chance that you two eejits would like to actually explain post 45 or do you simply want a row?

    I don't want to row.

I didn't comment on post 45 as it doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

I merely liked post #52 because of the first two lines and the last line.

Now, get over it and calm down a bit.

Thanks. I was aware your motivation to get involved was a partisan attack, but it's rare that you simply admit it like this.

Refreshing honesty on your part. Well done, take the afternoon off and reflect on how, when someone said the role of Crimewatch was to protect wrongdoers, you just ignored it and had a go at someone for disagreeing.

Only on this forum could a thread about the Princess of Wales take a detour to consider whether or not people working on Crimewatch are all 'paedos'!! Great stuff!
