I didn't rate him even when the media were bigging him up. I really doubt this is anything more than paper talk.

 

Spurs fans have proven themselves to be spectacularly bad judges of talent. Never take their word as gospel.

Having an extra pacey player gives defences something else to think about. As long as he's prepared to knuckle down, work hard and not have the same 'Johnny Swing D!ck' attitude, then I think it could be potentially a good move.

We all know Spurs is the footballing career graveyard so we take him on loan with an option. He knows Gomes and Capoue so settling in shouldn't be a problem

 

The reactions above are very similar to those of when Cathcart and Capoue signed - didn't turn out half bad did they? If the Pozzo's see something in him then that's good enough for me.

 

I did think that, but there was more a question of ability in those cases (especially Cathcart). With Townsend, he has proved what he can do (mostly for England), but I think he's far too inconsistent and gives the impression of having a lousy attitude. Reminds me very much of McGugan in a few ways - didn't turn out well did he?

 

I will be happy to have a player who is capable of being in the Euros this Summer. Maybe a new environment is all that's needed to kick on. At least we already know he is capable of producing in the prem unlike iturbe.

 

I was all for the 2 above, but Townsend is rubbish. Literally just fast, cuts in and shoots. I'd be annoyed if we signed him.

 

Yes irritatingly positive and a real let down after the article feed talked about "exciting news"....exciting news if you're a spurs fan !!! Perhaps its just a cunning plan to get the Muff to sign him on a mind-blowing contract.

Many coaches deploy left footers on the right (and vice versa) precisely so they cut inside

The issue isn't so much that he cuts inside. It's the fact he then shoots 99% of the time having cut inside rather than creating something for someone else in or just simply passing.

Yes Iggy is a striker, this guy is supposed to be creative. If he's going to score at Iggy's rate - sign him up now. But he won't....

 

If Townsend scores 10 in 40 and chips in with 7 or 8 assists like McGugan did then i'd be pretty happy with those returns.

If anyone can the best out of a player like that it would be the Pozzo's, Flores and a captain like Deeney.

From what I've seen, yes it is. If the players were reversed we'd be sitting here drooling over what we'd seen Ketchi do to Germany etc. If we want someone to run fast, cut inside and shoot, and occasionally score a "worldie" then Townsend is our man

 

That's fair comment but we don't know he won't have an impact. However having a pacey attacking winger means defences have another threat to deal with, which means more space for Deeney and Iggy to work their magic. The problem we have is everyone knows where are goals come from, so you shut them down and I'm not sure where the goals will come from.

All I'm saying is he's an option that could work out but he's got to come without the baggage.

 

He may score 10, but he'd never assist 7 or 8 because he only ever shoots. In fact in his attempts to score those 10 he would cost us at least as many.

 

...just like McGugan did. Sheff Wed have now discovered the same, dropped him and become promotion contenders.

 

Unless people watch every spurs game (and therefore are spurs supporters and can fark off right now) I can't see how there can be absolute certainty, and made up statistical claims like 99% this and 99% that is simply being silly.

I've seen Townsend on occasion on TV, never taken much notice so have no opinion about him either way.

If he comes I'm willing to give him a chance, mainly because if QSF says he wants him then that's more than good enough for me.

He is the ideal player for the system Flores plays, on the right of the three behind Ighalo cutting in..

I cant think of a player better that we could realistically sign, if we got Perotti to play on the left of the three id be elated.
