It would suit both parties probably to have a "we will sell you if we go down" clause.

 

I'm not disappointed we haven't signed Townsend as I don't see how he would have fitted into our team, we don't play with wingers. He would have struggled to make an impact just like Ibarbo and Berghuis.

 

Ah. I was thinking more about the impact he'd have on the team. You know, now and next season.

Townsend, Adebayor, Iturbe. These are players that I'd have been pleased for us sign because they are genuinely talented. Conversely, because of their personalities & general attitude (high cost, high maintenance), when missing out I kinda think "Ah well. Probably for the best"

Who is going to pay £8 mill for him in the summer? I think he could be stuck in geordieland for a while playing championship football, unless Newcastle pick up a % of his wages for him to move.

Obviously not as good as Townsend but for a first year scholar Ashley Charles does look quality the few times I've seen him. He's probably appeared as much for the under 21s than his own age group this season.

If he doesn't go in August and Newcastle aren't pushing for promotion...expect him to go for £5m next January.
