Welcome to Newcastle, famous the world over for being the worlds p1ss pot for dumping your over rated, over paid, bench players.

You may be right we have obviously allocated 10 million plus for the right player , thus maybe a cheeky bid or 2 at the end of the week might pay off!

What last weekend showed us is the need for us to be able to play in different formations, rather than just sticking to a 'Plan A' - spending the rest of the season just playing 4312 because we don't have good enough wingers will result in us being as easily "found out" as we eventually were when playing 442.

I'll quote this again at the end of the season when it's shown to be nonsense (at least with Townsend and Phillips). Feel free to quote this and have a laugh at my expense if I'm wrong.

Very pleased at our continued tactic of bidding for exciting players but not being tempted to pay for them.

Makes me very excited to think about who we might nearly, but not quite sign in the summer.

Maybe we could table a club record bid for Gareth Bale? We wouldn't get him but the "We've tabled a bit - talks are ongoing - Watford are in the driving seat - Bale definitely going to sign - Bale isn't going to sign and Watford end their interest - Watford are happy with Anya, says Quique" saga would feed WD Sport for a month.

  9. Agree, although its easy to morph a 4312 into a 433 or a 4231 relatively easy without the need to change players on the pitch, whereas a 442 you are sort of more stuck with what you have

WFC clearly did not think that he was worth the money. I would be willing to trust their judgement on this one. It was probably going to have to be a huge financial outlay (both fee and wages) and the risks were too large if he didn't work out.

Clue is in the name. An DROS Toons End (to the premiership).

  14. Well pleased with that.

The premium simply because he is English and has played for England was not really worth paying IMO. If no other clubs were interested and we could've got him for £8m, max £10m, then that would've been ok business and worse case scenario, we probably lose no more than £5million because he would always have some sell on value being young and an (ex) England player.

All very well talking about Bale but there is better value to be had from bids for overseas players we won't sign.

More likely to get games at Newcastle in a way as we don't exactly use out and out wingers that often.

Can someone check on Hornet23? He hasn't posted for a while and had his heart set on this signing.

Waiting for the official line on what to think about this from the club.

  21. Newcastle's problems are rubbish centre backs and rubbish strikers

Can't help but wonder why Schteve has bought a winger

We are kidding ourselves if we think we don't need a plan B involving a quick winger.....the club recognises that, having wanted to land Perotti, Iturbe and now Townsend . Let's not get all complacent on here just because of last Saturday's result, there is still a lot of work to do. Nordin remains a great option for a wing role, but Townsend's extreme pace would have been a real asset and I predict his career will now take off again, even at Newcastle...

Frankly if we are keen to ***** £14m away - buy Zaza / Sinclair or Vasquez / Sinclair - not Andros "one trick pony" and loadsa attitude Townsend

That is unless this is all a decoy and the deal is done in which case welcome aboard Andros

I see what you did there...hedging your bets...very sneaky.

  26. 2 #10s behind a #9 give us lots of options, if the opposition play 3CBs as Southampton, Spuds, City etc then they drop deep and play between the lines and we get the overload in our favour. If the opposition play 2 CBs then Deeney and Ighalo can push forward into their faces and we still get the overload in our favour. It gives us a plan A and a plan B in one, and is a lot harder for opposition coaches to 'suss out'.

Would a fast winger be handy on the bench as a plan C? Sure. Do we need one? I'm not so sure myself... but that's just my view.

Plan F went to Sheffield Wednesday, Plan H went back to Villa and Plan V threw the Plan V at the Lower GT.

Not really. A lot of people on here have said all along they didn't want him to start with.

I'd much much rather get Sinclair from Liverpool for half the price, and double the resale value. He also doesn't have a manager that personally requests he's sold...

  31. lowerrous

Mario Suarez - 29 in a few weeks, most likely past his peak, low resale value - £5m.

Andros Townsend - 24, likely to still have his peak years ahead of him, decent resale value - £12m.

Oh sorry you meant Jerome Sinclair obviously, yea that would be a good signing, he seems highly rated..

This is indeed excellent news. The £12m the club have saved will be worth an extra 3 points at the end of the season.

    I'm delighted.

  34. Johnny Todd Sings

Johnny Todd Sings First Year Pro

Sometime last week QSF said that he would like English players but that they are over priced, which is why we will be getting players from Spain. I can only see us getting British players when their contracts expire elsewhere. I can't comment on the quality of Townsend, but is he really worth double our most expensive signing?

Maybe Townsend has a get out clause in his contract when/if Newcastle get relegated, and we will get him cheap in the summer.

The huge wages offered knock a fair bit out of the difference and Townsend won't be worth a bean if he doesn't shape up a bit.
