Yet you didn't know about the restriction on transfer expenditure, even though it was clearly stated in the documents released at the time of the take over Perhaps some of the time you spend writing on here might be better spent reading
Perhaps the offer included an extremely large amount of add-ons which accumulated to a £3m bid? I am probably wrong though.
I love these boards, as no matter what you write, there's always someone lurking, waiting to have a pop. Not sure why that is, but I guess it's human nature. If it makes you feel good, then I'm happy for you. I'll continue to pass on my views, as it passes the time of day quite nicely. I dont intend to cause offense to any other poster in doing this. If storing up little vendetta's passes your time of day, then good for you.
All those sleepless nights for no reason whatsoever... Nicky Maynard looks set to join Wigan. Might help us out a bit. We might not be able to score loads or concede little but there could be 3 teams doing that job even worse than us.
We only paid about £50k for him so it's not like we've really wasted any money, we've probably paid higher loan fees in recent years.
Read the same in The Indepressant this morning, I can only assume the figures are wrong or a lot of the £3 million was dependant on appearances with only about half up front. I can't see us turning down that amount and if the 40% made available for new transfers figure is correct that would give us £1.2 million to spend on a new striker and winger.
http://www.watfordfc.com/page/NewsDetail/0,,10400~2579934,00.html Official line is 'make us an offer we can't refuse'. Other wise p1ss orft. So that means mapps to toon for £300k. Probably.
I'm very happy to read this from Bassini. This can only be a good thing for the club. We either get top money or keep the player. So it's a win-win for the club. I admit I have a very negative view of the owner, but credit where it's due. Well done Bassini for taking this approach.
He's exactly right. People are forgetting that Aidy has been with us all throughout the academy, we've helped make him the player he is today. As a player people may think he's not worth more than a couple of million but its what the player is worth to us (which is a hell of a lot of money).
Looks like Newcastle will come back with another offer including some of their rejects or a loan player, maybe both. Who do you think we should ask for? http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sp...le_bid_miles_away_from_Mariappa_s_valuation_/
Now they've signed Cisse, how far fetched would it be that one of their fringe strikers might be available, even on loan? Lovenkrands or Sammy Ameobi? Or Nile Ranger?
If we want defensive players I wouldn't mind perch or kadar. Attacking Id be happy with vukenic, Sami ameobi(unlikely) or Adjei. All talented young players!
The worry with the way this is playing out...early testing of the water from Newcastle etc...is that today is the 24th...only a week of the deadline to go..if he does move, we'd want a few days at least to try and spend some of the money to boost our squad. Could this drag on until Deadline Day itself?
I can't think of one player we could realistically get from Newcastle that I'd want in the slightest. All cash or no deal if it were up to me.
Have to disagree with you, as long as we still received a relative figure in terms of cash, there are plenty of players in the Newcastle squad i'd want here, albeit youngsters on loan or permanent make-weights in the deal. You guys want a quick, skillful, left winger - check out Shane Ferguson.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23SxcIuNZC0 Mehdi Abeid, Gosling, Sylvain Marveaux, Haris Vučki* would all be unbelievably good loan signings - all of which have been used sparingly by Newcastle this season. Newcastle fans saying they've offered us Alan Smith, i'd take him or Loverkrands as part of a deal. Whilst obviously keeping Mariappa would be superb, there is also the opportunity for the club to sign players normally well out our reach, in that they will be more inclined to move if being "pushed". If we are brave, and Newcastle get desperate, we could make the deal very beneficial to us. Don't forget, as good as Mariappa is.. for years many of you on here have called him mistake-prone.
Wouldnt touch Alan Smith with a bargepole, I think Kane is spot on with the rest though, all would be excellent additions
