I always thought he signed a new deal with us on the promise we’d let him go if a big club came in, otherwise it makes no sense as he could’ve let his last deal run down and just left on a free. So it’s been down to him to earn a move away and he’s squandered it, his performances haven’t warranted it.

Had Silva still been Everton boss, I don't think there's much doubt that Doucoure would be near the top of our wanted list. Not so sure now though - there are a number of players who've been linked ahead of him. I wouldn't rule it out, but given Ancelotti is the manager now and the system has changed since he joined, it just becomes less likely. He's 27 now, isn't he? I guess it might depend what sort of money you're wanting as we've been exploring deals for the likes of Hojbjerg (off to Spurs) and Allan (29 and expensive) in the first instance, whilst the links to people like Rabiot and Sangare have died down a bit. Plus I think we are more looking for someone who sits back a bit more than Doucoure does, who's always looked at his best when he's given licence to roam forward from midfield (in my slightly removed opinion).

Seems Everton are about to spend around £30mil on former Udinese midfielder Allan. I doubt they'll then spend something similar on Doucoure as well.

His stock is nowhere near as high as it was a couple of years ago. I doubt we’ll get anything like £30m for him now, and I don’t think the board would be prepared to sell cheap.

We may even still have him for next season, but I do feel he wants to move on.

I agree. Out of everyone in the squad he's the one I'd move on even if the deal is below par for us. His heart isn't really in it and the consequences are damaging both us and him.

Haha typical Everton. Blowing £30mil on a midfielder that’s about to turn 30 in 4 months. Was only in the Napoli starting 11 16 times last season, had multiple niggling injuries and had his worst season in a Napoli shirt since he’s been there.

Along come Everton. If I was an Everton fan I would be fuming at my club spending £30mil on an aging midfielder who’s best years are behind him. £30mil could get you a much better and younger midfielder.

I really think the failure to sell him at his peak value is where things started going properly wrong. I understand keeping him was a statement of ambition by the club, and at the time, he did feel almost irreplaceable, but it’s clear with hindsight, the money we’d have received could have been used to strengthen areas of the squad that needed more attention.

Beyond that, once his form started to decline and talk of big moves began to disappear, I think it sent the wrong to message to a squad of players, many of whom had been sold the idea of Watford being a stepping stone. Maybe I’m giving the impact of Doucoure in the dressing room too much value, but I can see it possibly having an impact on morale/motivation amongst certain players, who might feel their own chances of a big move would be restricted too.

Udinese Sold him for about €12m so the Pozzos will be getting a hefty sell on fee :D

I think that’s more the players fault than ours though. It’s seemed to me like we offered him a new better deal with the promise that if a better club came calling we’d not stand in his way. It was then down to him to put the performances in on the pitch to earn it, but he didn’t.

Plus, it doesn’t take a lot to suspect him of being one of the unnamed players by Leventhal who was getting his agent to let clubs know he wanted out.

Do you know who has got Everton written all him? Mario Gotze. I can easily see them giving him 250k a week and a 5 year deal, and regretting it 5 months later.

You'd struggle to find a player who sat back (and took it easy) more than Doucoure last season, he looked a shadow of the player he used to be.

They are the first two I would like to see leave the club, lets just hope we can find a couple of mug teams who still think they are good, because they aint.

I don’t fully agree. They are good, talented players. The problem isn’t ability - it’s more that they have been completely unmotivated to play for us and I imagine are the type of player who like to blame external factors for that, rather than own it and look internally.

You can't really blame Holebas - he usually gave his all when playing. Not his fault his legs have gone.

The only players I have seen linked to any other clubs are

    Sarr (Linked to everybody)
Deeney (but am sure it was a joke)
Gerry (who linked himself and was rejected)
A few players that have never played for us

need to get rid of Doucs , he was a very good player but we need to build a new midfield around somebody else, he couldn't be arsed last year, definitely won’t be arsed in the championship . Trouble is can’t see many people stumping up more than £15m - £20m for him as last season has shown he is a gamble.

When is this transfer window likely to get interesting

As already mentioned on this page, if they sign Allan, as seems likely, then I doubt they'll also go for Doucs.

Depends, all their midfielders (with the possible exception of Gbamin, who is an unknown quantity) are ****, they could definitely do with 2 new midfielders

  30. Disappointing last season, wouldn't be upset to see him go if it make a space of Quina. As others have said in hindsight we should have let him go last summer.

Andre Gomes was alright after the restart, he's probably similar in ability to Doucoure overall. Struggles to stay fit though I guess.

Bit harsh considering Son tripped him causing him to snap his leg in half! Has he had many fitness issues aside from that recently? I really like Gomes. Better than Doucoure for me.

Disagree there, he's obviously a good player, but he's completely and utterly not suited to English football. I think even before that injury the Toffees were saying the same things, he's like their version of Jurado

Andre Gomes is useless. He doesn’t score, he doesn’t assist, he doesn’t win tackles, he doesn’t make interceptions. Is he one of these ‘set the tempo’ types? Not having it. Sideways pass merchant.
