Heading into a fourth Premier League season with the likes of Britos and Mariappa as genuine contenders for a place in the side. Hilarious.

After the news Penaranda is to get/has gotten his Spanish passport and it's presumed he'll be in the squad, the more I think he can be listed in the forwards section.

That's where he played for Venezuela so why not here?

I'm sure if he played as part of a front three (Pereyra/Penaranda/Deulofeu for example) then fluid movement between the three would make it very difficult for a flat back four to pick up.
In a front two he could play off of Deeney in a slightly more direct style and it could also help bolster our central two midfielders when we don't have possession.
With Gray their pace would cause trouble to any defence with the likes of Hughes, Pereyra and Deulofeu able to play decent through balls.

If no other forward is bought it would leave us with Deeney shadowed by Okaka and Gray shadowed by Penaranda.
Not exactly prolific but solely in numbers terms I can see why another forward wouldn't be brought in. I hope one is (for Okaka)

It may also explain the need for another wide player.
Deulofeu, Pereyra and Sema seem solid enough but Success? Even as a reserve/squad player I'd have reservations at this moment.
Bring in a player of Alvaro Garcia's quality and loan out Success and we have four decent players to choose in the wide positions.

That said Okaka is absolutely useless both in terms of fitness and impact and must be replaced. It is no surprise we can’t shift him.

I’d rather put my faith in Success than Sema. The latter is no more than a cheap punt from a minor league. May be brilliant. Will likely be substandard. Too much this summer has been done on the cheap.

 

Lets hope that Penaranda and Success finaly live up to their potential because it's beginning to look like we are not going to bring in any new strikers and may well be relying on these two to step up to the plate.

If they do we could well be the surprise PL package this season, but if they don't

Agreed. A think a good CB should be the priority now.

 

Adelberto Penaranda - The only player to be announced twice by the same club on different transfer deadline days without having even left the club in between.

 

Just to reiterate, Peñaranda has not scored a club goal in 2 seasons.

Very happy with how the squad is shaping up. My wish list for the window was some decent, inexpensive gambles/players for the future, a revitalised Troy Deeney leading the line and not to break up the defence.

Would have liked another defensive midfielder and a winger, but you can’t have it all.

I suspect it’s Kaboul they are looking to leave out rather than Britos. I think Britos may be available for sale but if no takers, he’ll be in the squad at the expense of Kaboul.

 

What is the injury that is officially keeping Kaboul out at the moment ?

Looks good in blue, clearly ready to go. Looks like he's lost weight too. Bit worried about that lean to the right though. And who's the fella running next to him?

 

Last season I thought we had weakest frontline in division. Since then others have strengthened - I really worry about surviving unless we see some additions tomorrow.

Not sure we can count on just goals from midfield like last year.
