Danny Baker is sacked by the BBC approximately every 18 months.
I think he's very creative but has made an error of judgement, probably due to being quite bumptious.
    He'll be back.
Meanwhile I can't wait to hear what little baby James gets up to in his fight against undue hardship and the constant mishaps he's likely to face.
I wonder if he will take any of his 'A' Levels himself?

Can we just get one thing clear here. It was a chimpanzee, which is an ape, not a monkey.

This sort of inaccuracy boils my piss.

Per his explanation, he was making a comment on how much of a circus sideshow the Royal Family is.

    Maybe once.

But now let us cling onto them, even the stupid, bald, unemployable ones, as a raft of sanity in these Roaring 40s of political madness.

Might be more practical to ban the children.

A Germany specific solution, of course.

On seeing the image of a chimpanzee, I would think ‘chimpanzee’.

Or ‘monkey’ if I was being a bit thick.

It's certainly fair to say the current shower of UK politicians are making the strongest possible argument for a return to full monarchy.

It is more funny in the knowledge that Danny Baker has a long running obsession with "chimpanzees dressed as famous people with circus music" and regularly features such items in his show.

On the contrary. A respect for the diversity between monkey and ape culture is very woke practice in the simian community.

Lumping them all together is very offensive, especially to the marginalised gibbon community

I think this changes everything truthfully, I've never seen any of Danny Baker's shows but with the context of it you understand why he thought his core followers would get it.

The problem is that he didn't understand that it would cause offence.

He is a Millwall fan. Without wishing to demean the club or their support- in the seminal holigan text Naughty Nineties, it is claimed their fans were never racist- it seems unlikely that Baker would be unaware of this particular discourse of abuse.

I'm guessing it was from his shows in the 90s when he was relevant.

If he is a big racist, I don't understand the inconsistency of the racism: surely he would also put a picture where the Mum is also depicted in such a ridiculous way?

Being completely serious, thank **** I'm alive in a time where people don't go around saying such offensive things without some sort of public fall out. I'm sure he didn't mean it, but have even the tiniest bit of self awareness.

    Another Danny Baker thread

Looking forward to that one SR, I'm running three podcasts behind so I'm hoping to have a lazy day on Saturday catching up.

I think it's loving his subject matter that makes him stand out, isn't it? The way he bounces around from subject to subject in the most childishly enthusiastic way is tremendously engaging. He makes simple, surreal ideas work, when they'd fall flat in the hands of anyone else. The first time I heard 'chimpanzees dressed as famous people set to fairground music' I almost put the car off the road I was laughing so hard.

    And this:

I blame my brother. He sent in a suggestion for 'chimpanzees dressed as famous people set to fairground music', next thing you know, Danny's not only not on air anymore, but he's weeks away from becoming a mute. My brother's got form for this sort of thing. Many years ago, he sent a wry observation to Mike Ward of the Today newspaper, just days before said journal closed its doors for the last time.
