Newcastle are already down with their team. Literally the only decent player they have is Ritchie. The rest are all bog standard chanpionship players.

Rafa will want to save his career and Ashley has given him the perfect scapegoat. No investment over the summer as promised and Rafa will say he stood by them in championship instead of jumping ship when they went down. He has done all he can be expected to do with players available. I expect the fans will well a truly boo Ashley and protest the whole season which will only distract the players on the pitch.

One more loss for West Ham and Bilic will be gone. Rafa will be in to replace him.

That would be interesting and see whether the adage of Rafa being an excellent manager of a good squad but not so good at building squads - I seem to remember this coming from one of our compaƱeros when the Pozzos took us over.

Far better managers have won far fewer trophies. Rafa is a decent manager, but I'd never call him excellent, and he is unlikely to be one who has suitable skills at keeping a club like Newcastle up. Very few could currently do worse than Bilic at West Ham though, who has completely lost the dressing room.

He'd probably get them into the top half (they've spent loads of money), but not sure he'd do much better than that.

Leicester missed the deadline to sign Adrien Silva by 14 seconds.

Now, bar an appeal decision, they are stuck paying his wages and he is unavailable for selection until January.

FIFA covering themselves in glory once again .

As happy as I am about Leicester being weakened that really is a tremendous feat of jobsworth petty mindedness.

Moreover fans are missing the displays of a talented footballer . But hey what the fans have to do with football ?

Would tend to agree but, in the litigious society we live in, I imagine that they are worried that other teams that missed the deadline by minutes, or even hours, might take FIFA to court if an exception is made for Leicester.

I guess they would also argue that teams have weeks to make these deals and if they leave it to the last minute then they run the risk of missing the deadline.

14 seconds does sound petty though and common sense says it should be overruled. FIFA are not known for their common sense though.

Another reading of the article does state that some sections were insufficiently completed.

Basically, they probably gave crap answers to get the form completed, and didn't even manage to do that.

I have less sympathy. The window was open for what, 2 and a half months? As my teachers used to say to me in school, it's their own fault for leaving it until the very last second.

No sympathy whatsoever. We all have to abide by deadlines that are transparent and consistent. They failed. Doesn't matter about the length of time. They had all summer to sign Silva, and shouldn't have sold Drinkwater if there was any risk of them being left short.

If this is approved where would it end? Wasn't de gea not allowed to move due to a faulty fax machine?

When we play Leicester and hit the post can we argue that we were only 14 mm from scoring so the goal should be given?

Rumours by clued in journalists suggest Man Utd deliberately turned off their fax machine at the end of the window, knowing that a bid was incoming.

    Hearsay, I'm sure...

Surely time to move this thread out of Hornet's Nest and into General Football and Other Sport. Its nothing to do with Watford.

Just watched 5 minutes of burley v palace and turned it off, 2 shockingly poor sides

Judged on this game Burnley are mid table under false pretences

Palace knock it sideways and backwards slowly without achieving anything, there was no way their cloggers were ever going to evolve into a total football side

    Palace - played 4 lost 4 scored 0

Worst PL start to a season ever, also the worst top flight start since Preston in 1924

Well was Ritchie only booked because there was a lack of contact on Mowson?

Very much the same sort of incident as Mane's..

I think we'll be closer to the top 7 than anyone in the 'Premier League 2'. Premiership is complete and utter dross outside the top 6 or 7 and I think we've now moved beyond the other 13/14 teams that make up the numbers.

Just gone on the palace Forums. They think they have vastly improved in their last game and are coming good. God alone knows what kind of dross happened in the 3 games preceding this.

    Some choice quotes:

"I thought today we were excellent"
"It was a vastly better performance"
"I thought we played very well against a team who beat Chelsea away in the last game"

didn't have to look past two pages to find this.

they must be very unlucky then.
