Having technical ability is one thing as The Recluse says. Teaching positioning and anticipation is another. Some have it naturally others have to learn it. Others don't and stick out like sore thumbs where pace can bail them out eventually for a while before they are found out. It is what sets apart young players when you watch them. I watch Argentina youth a bit in my time as a fan and for PES and the standouts are clear to see. They have time to make decisions because they anticipate where to be and read a game situation well. Take Nehuen Perez and Leandro Balerdi. Both very good technically one being a converted DM. However when it comes to dropping off, closing down, reading where a cross is going to arrive at. understanding where a forward is likely to go into space Perez is streets ahead. Partly to experience, partly to coaching (situation training which we could focus more on in the Academy) and the rest is innate.
I wouldn’t say he’s crap but I feel he’s more of an attacking midfielder so Ivic tactics were not great. When we looked good under Ivic was when we moved the football quickly and this usually started with him. Reading the game and knowing where to be only comes with experience. I don’t think he will be a superstar but I reckon he will be in the top two divisions. I would like us to play 4-2-3-1 and not sure he can play as a holding midfielder so this maybe an issue
He is in the middle of doing his Pro licence I read somewhere, he will be qualified by the time when/if we go up.
The idiotic Manchester United fans that reply to every team line up and post that mentions Garner are convinced he's a "6" (whatever that means, think it might be a Michael Carrick type player but not sure) and bang on about us playing him out of position too far up the pitch.
His press conferences remind me of Unai Emery at Arsenal “Good ebenin, I’m very happy, this is our way, it’s not easy, we need to continue for the fans of the Watford” Etc. Etc.
I'm hoping this is just because his English is basic. You get no real insight from his press conferences. To be honest, I found Ivic far more interesting to listen too. However, it's not all about how good you are a telling a story to the media, the proof is on the pitch.
Ivic might have been interesting but he sounded so dull and flat . Like you say doesn’t rally matter what they say most of the time - it’s usually cliches .
I like him and think he’ll do well here, as long as he stops is from being so vulnerable when defending set pieces. About time we see his face on the pitch methinks.
I couldn't think of anything more infuriating than a Manu Utd twitter feed, full of plastic Mancs giving it the big one.
"Best strikers in the Championship, perfect performance against United, 4/5 u23s that can play in the Championship..." Can someone just post that clapping sealion gif as that's pretty much who we've hired?
I can't even find a gif to demonstrate my feelings about this comment and the general direction that it means we are headed in. There's delusion and then there is this. I guess this is why he was hired. Absolute ******* yes man.
But have you seen the videos the club have been posting this week? Cathcart firing in goals from every angle, Hungbo finishing in the top corner and Bachmann making brilliant saves, even putting back spin on the ball to stop it from going in. We're now f***ing brilliant. I've seen it with my own eyes.
Don’t forget this season’s first rule of the club’s online updates though. Namely, that players featured then never turn up in the starting eleven for the next game. The three featured this week, that you just named, are likely to keep up this unfortunate sequence.
It's propaganda of 1930s Soviet levels, but what else are they going to do - a video where they show a overdrawn bank statement, point out Masina is the only left back and that Gray is an absolute disaster of a footballer who doesn't care about anyone other than himself (set to some happy music)?
Agreed, social media makes me cringe watching Man United fans from Dorset calling Liverpool fans from Berkshire scouse b*****s and the liverpool fans responding with Manc b****** to people that have never been to Manchester.
A related phenomena was literally my first thought/what I said to my brother about the sickening strikeforce - everyone at the club is experiencing a terminal state of hypernormalization.
That comment he made about Deeney and Gray being the best strikers in the division was certainly cringe worthy. It's like the whole squad and management at the club believe their own hype/confirmation bias. There is certainly no evidence for this type of hyperbole.
Personally I don't have an issue with him saying that. He's got to get a tune out of them, and what's better than to hear your manager describing you as the best in the division. It's a vote of confidence and is designed to boost the ego. Not sure how gullible Deeney is, but I'm sure Gray will lap it up and take it at face value. If it relaxes them and puts them in a more confident frame of mind, then it's all good.
And then see them trying and failing to locate said cities on the map. Club bookshop have a new item for sale.
How much more boosting does it need ? It needs deflating. Get fit, score goals, stop your yammering on radio and do your job. Or leave the club this summer.
I'm all for building confidence but at least make believable statements! Also, these two don't appear short of confidence and have rather large egos to go with their wage packets.
Have you actually watched the video of the press conference? I don't think Munoz looks as if he even believes what he is saying when giving that answer. He also gives a despondent sigh before coming out with it. From 4 minutes:
I don't think he has a clue what sort of manure is dropping out of his mouth. They might as well have appointed the late Margarita Pracatan.
