Not sure why he is being slagged off atm. He has maintained our position in and around the playoffs. We should all know by now that the managers don't have complete control of things whilst Deeney, for example, is at the club.

And his positive media comments is just to not upset the applecart within the club. What is the point of shooting one's self in the foot.

Fair enough. I prefer to learn from the experience of the past 5 years, which shows that the role of head coach is pretty much a ceremonial one only and the hiring of this gibbering moron confirms just how seriously the club takes the value of the position.

A couple of timely penalties propelling us to flattering wins, doesn't change that for me.

Agree that the role doesn't hold the same weight as in other clubs, rightly or wrongly. I'd personally prefer an Eddie Howe/Sean Dyche stability but I suppose the results of the last 6/7 years (last 18 months aside) have backed up Gino's methods.

Personally don't think the wins were flattering, I think every result since Xisco's arrival has been a fair one. Wins, loss and draw.

    Under his watch so far..

Bachman has come into the side and conceded just once in four games.

Sierralta has come on in leaps and bounds.

He’s got the best out of Cleverley. He’s finally got Hughes up to scratch to be starting matches again.

He seems to have got Deeney playing well in a new deeper, more creative role.

Sarr looks more motivated and occasionally more dangerous too.

We’ve taken 13 points out of 18. Scored 7 and conceded just 3. Four clean sheets and only one blank ourselves, in which we had 13 goal attempts.

Hardly his fault he’s inherited such a powderpuff collection of forwards. Personally I think he’s over-started Gray and under-started Zinckernagel, but that’s just my opinion as an armchair supporter. Just because somebody doesn’t pick the same starting line-up or formation that I’d chose doesn’t by default make them a failure.

If people want to be prejudiced by his short CV (which incidentally does include winning a title) that’s up to them. The complaint about lack of tactics and poor use of subs has equally been applied on here to Ivic (myself firmly included in that one), Pearson during our poor away run after we’d won at Bournemouth, Gracia when things started slipping, Silva when his head was elsewhere and so on. A lot of us were very anxious about Joka when he lost four in a row a month after arriving. In other words, the complaints circulating now about Xisco are little different from those that crop up with practically every Head Coach we’ve had.

If we’d lost 4 out of the last 6, I’d get the complaints about his short CV or the comparisons to the person who has won the lottery to manage us. But we haven’t. We’ve got 13 points since he arrived, and generally there seems a lot more positivity around the team. We all know our shortcomings and like everybody else, I find it so frustrating that we haven’t invested more in a proper goalscorer, and seem unlikely to do so. The difference I fear between automatic promotion and play off lottery.

It could well be that Xisco is enjoying beginners luck, and will get found out and the season will tail off disappointedly and we can rue Pozzo’s gamble. Time will tell. But for as long as we do get new managers bounce, we might as well enjoy it and credit the guy with his efforts so far. Save the I told you so for when there is actually something to say that about, rather than when we are on our best run of the season so far.

I don’t mean any of my post to sound as if I’m lecturing btw. They’re just my thoughts. Totally respect other people’s rights not to be enjoying the football we are being served up, or to have any confidence in our rookie coach.

Agree, it's also worth remembering that Zinckernagel has joined at the end of his domestic season so I imagine we're giving him a bit of rest not to overwork him, whilst also keeping his fitness up with 30 min spells.

Think this pretty much sums it up.

Xisco has come in at a time when the fanbase is in a particularly negative headspace and is somewhat suffering for that. The signs since he's come in have been largely very promising, however. It's not a spotless report card, but they never are.

I don't think anyone is going to be able to make a silk purse out of Gray's ear; get a half decent striker in and I think we'll step up significantly. Deeney is worth a spot (if he continues very his recent good work) provided that we have a goalscorer to pair with him. That's clearly not going to be Gray.

We sacked a coach who rested Deeney for a game and have replaced him with another whose brief seems to be "pick the formation that gets the best out of Troy". So we'll stick with the 4-4-1-1 for the rest of the season as Troy plays his best football in that withdrawn striker role. And that means that sometimes we have to knacker the balance of the rest of the team by playing central midfielders out wide. Genuinely think that Muñoz has been told to build the team around Deeney.

My first impression was akins to SLBs ie he sounds like he’s won a competition to manage a football club .

However you can’t argue with the results and reasonably decent performances . That and having got 4 points from 3 away games against the 2nd, 6th and 14th placed teams ( when played) is impressive .

We should just enjoy him while we can because promotion or non promotion , I doubt he ll be here next season.

Shocking manager. No attacking intent, awful lineups and no tactics.

Need to get rid of him now.

This guy is a ******* idiot. He has played every minute of every game 4-4-2. It doesn't matter what is happening on the pitch, he sets us up exactly the same. And then he makes a double change at 65 minutes. Every game, like I used to do on Championship Manager 2.

Today, he persevered with a centre midfielder wide left even though it hasn't worked at all. Then he did two like for like changes, one of which was Andre Gray. We were actually looking more threatening with Sema on the left. But then because he can't do anything other than 4-4-2, he made another change and put Zinckernagel on as a defensive midfielder. He was dribbled past easily 3/4 times and barely touched the ball. This defeat is all on this clueless manager. It is ******* embarrassing to have this guy as a head coach. He's been bailed out by the odd bit of quality so far but it won't last.

Out of his depth i'm afraid to say. A shame, because I want him to do well, he seems likeable, but we are suppose to be a team competing for automatic promotion, we aren't an experiment!

Gino's puppet. Who knows who is making the selection ? Giaretta or Pozzo because they think they know best ? Those substitutions were awful. As soon as Gray was announced and Hughes came off we lost positivity, energy. Gray the ***** just sucks the life out of the side. And Gray cannot get there. I expect Pedro would. QPR are utter shyte as well.

    Club Statement

Watford Football Club is pleased to announce loyal club servant ‘corner flag used to announce stuff’ has been appointed as our new head coach until the end of the season. The inanimate object, which has no footballing knowledge or experience aside from watching regularly, will be represented at pitch side by its human avatar, Xisco Munoz.

Munoz has confirmed Ben Wilmot will start in goal on Saturday and Ngakia will slot in as a second goalkeeper. Corner flag has also decided to preserve with Andre Gray up front.

Xisco would be better off as assistant to someone with more experience. He has some qualities it seems in fun training drills and gelling a squad of disinterested millionaires but out his depth tactically or his hands are tied with those morons running things behind the scenes

So LouOrns has posted some stats this morning showing that since he arrived, we've created less chances, had less possession and less shots per game.

So much for that whole 'attacking coach' ********.

I guess he brings more smiles to the dressing room and he sings in his Instagram stories.

Which is what it is all about to the throbbers after all.

Penalties seem to have papered over some huge cracks.

Create nothing from open play, win a penalty and people suddenly ignore the wider picture. It's a results business after all.

However, anyone watching can see we have been blunt and directionless. When there aren't enough penalties to win the game, we are stuffed. Our goals for, even including a bumper crop of 8 penalties, is not even a goal per game. Not promotion form.
