I fully agree with that quote, a similar one I hear is "there's responsibility with man-marking, if a player scores then you can blame his marker" which is rubbish as the same goes for zonal - if a goal is scored in your zone then you're at fault as much as a man-marker is. Plus it's stupid blaming players for a goal, especially when teams use blockers from set-pieces a lot these days meaning if you're blocked there's nothing really you can do to continue tracking your marker - so seems harsh to get blamed for that.

On that note at the end of January I looked at all the teams in the PL this season and how they defended (I classed zonal as 4+ zonal markers defending the 6-yard area)

Zonal marking came out marginally worse (although it's quite a small sample size) so it's not enough to say zonal marking is definitely worse. Personally I think there's no right way of defending and it instead depends on the quality of your players. Liverpool had one of the best defensive records from corners in the league last season and this season they've got one of the worst - their set-up hasn't changed at all but obviously VVD is a huge miss in that regard which would again suggest player quality plays a huge factor in the results of a defensive set-up.

Are you trying create another feud here? It was a forum joke, yet you are wetting your knickers. FYI, I am intelligent; the fact that I choose to make a light hearted dig at a common grammar faux pas (I won't italicise that because your sensitive little soul would obviously take it the wrong way) is coincidental.

Yes. I'm old enough to remember when we came out of lockdown confident that everything was going the right way for the only team to have slaughtered Liverpool that season ....

I'm not from Watford and only used to go on match days, but what has happened to the allotments!? What are they putting there? I wonder what else will have changed since I was last there a year ago

Baroness Thornhill of Bedlam declared once upon a time it was to be used for a future Health Campus. None of that materialized. Housing now apparently. Most of the allotment holders are waiting for another plot. Another loss of green space to the ego of an ill qualified nutjob. She should not be allowed to run the proverbial picnic. Never trust politicians of whatever hue. She is also behind the bridge across the enormous lake in the Parade. Well worth all the money thrown at it.

Some away fans still think they have to climb through them to get to the ground.

I wonder how busy those flats are around the Rookery?

I wouldn't like to pretend that I have great knowledge however for what it is worth IMO the most effective way of defending set pieces is a mixture of zonal and man marking whilst assigning someone to block off Crouchie etc .

    Housing, eh?
As I understand it The Rookery End was so-called after the sub-standard dwellings that used to exist near there; 'rookery' being a (Victorian?) nickname for a noisy, overcrowded slum. These were pulled down a long time ago. I wonder if the allotments were created from the resulting space, but I don't know. Ironical, possibly.
Probably best not to let away fans learn of this, nor of the fact that the stadium was built on an old rubbish tip.

If we are looking at a new ground would it not make sense to do a spurs, and build a ground on that land, then then the old ground can be used for housing? Of course I’m sure there is an obvious reason why not that’s already been discussed to death elsewhere.

My understanding is that the Rookery was a little further away, down by the Colne where there was a silk mill (hence Silk Mill Road if you know where that is).

I've long had an irritation about our non-presence at the far post, esp when crosses/corners sail over everyone's head. Yesterday I was literally shouting at the screen.. Come on nobody at the back post ffs, and then Chabs peeled off ran back and nodded in. What a great move and goal.!

I am completely unphased by our remaining fixtures. Everyone else is talking it up like we should be terrified but this is a team consisting of players who have been facing Man City, Liverpool, Utd, Arsenal, Spurs etc week in week out for the last 5 years. Do you honestly think they give a **** about Norwich away? We are going to go there and turn them over them coast to the title. Just watch.

Rookery is the term for a slum. Was not the ground a gravel excavation site ? There are numerous gravel pits along the Colne with it being a rather large river at the end of the last Ice Age depositing a large amount of gravel as it shrank in size with reducing meltwater.

I was about to ask the same question what is going on behind The Rookery, it looks like a possible building plot to me?
