I believe the commentator said that we were the second highest scorers in the league from corners.
It's simple and a very successful set piece routine which could of got us two goals. The chance for Masina was difficult but he got on the end of it obviously he feels he should of done better. Nates was a excellent finish, Great movement and as you said Gosling just needs to hit that section and it will create an opportunity.
Having a set piece coach is working wonders.

Yes it's true but what a pathetic rule. I fully understand Success for getting frustrated and getting cautioned for his foul.

But he still should have booked the player for a clear & sustained episode of pulling back even if he had played advantage, as well as booking Success, so I don’t get your point.
The ref also decided not to see the clear pull back and push in the face on JP early in the game and instead gave Brum a throw.

  4. Carpster

Yes but JP completely mugged him off later with a beautiful first touch followed by nutmegging him and getting fouled on the edge of the box. He got carded for that and rightly so.

Yeah, no disagreement there. Also think when a player picks up the ball and walks away with it after committing a foul it should be an instant yellow card every time.

I give up @Steve Leo Beleck!

Interesting. I, too, had never heard of this new rule. However it seems that, once again, it is a rule muddying the water. Instead of just going back and giving a yellow card when play stops, the ref now also has to decide if the offence is ‘bad enough’ even though it is clearly ‘bad enough’ in a situation that doesn’t involve playing advantage.

Agreed they should be making the refs job easier. We should be applauded for trying to play on instead of going all Bournemouth. Where in all stupidity we should of stopped play and let the Birmingham player get carded. Idiotic ruling of the highest order.

Agreed. Also, thanks for flagging up the rule changes. Ones which, I have to say, seem unfair.

Is the rule not “interfere with or stop” a promising attack and not just stopping. If so, at the time of the offence, not before or after, he was clearly trying to stop or interfere with a promising attack, therefore bookable. Just because the attack didn’t come to anything does not alter the fact that at the point of the offence it was a promising attack.

For me, the Birmingham player fouled Gosling and then went on and fouled Success. Success then got retribution and a yellow card, which wouldn't have happened if the ref blew up for either foul. Even if you disagree that Success was fouled the referee should have brought play back as there had been no advantage when Success lost the ball.

Either way, I agree the ref was better than some we have had. I also agree that both teams set out to play football.

Thanks for providing the background to this new rule. I think that the law is an ass on this occasion though.

A team doesn't chose when an advantage is taken. It certainly isn't an advantage if an opponent avoids punishment just because the ref makes the call to play on.

I think the authorities should do everything they can to prevent cheating by punishing clear and deliberate foul play. This rule is retrograde step imho.

Except I replied before I read your link to the new (crazy) rule this season. It's not always easy to read every subsequent post in a thread before making a comment on one.

Absolutely yes. Despite a few knocks, we are finding ways to win every game and cofidence must be sky high. We're the form side in the league and the games can't come quickly enough. On the flip side, our rivals are faltering and every game is forcing them to slip up and drop points.

The break doesn't help us at all IMO and gives Swansea a welcome respite. At the monent they are like a fighter, rocked and knocked down, but saved by the bell.

I think the initial offence was worthy of a yellow, so had that been issued he would've struggled to make many subsequent challenges, to our obvious advantage.

Exactly this. There was a phase where Brum put us under consistent pressure through several phases. It was all hands to the pump as the ball was cleared and then came back in again. After a few minutes, I noticed Success jogging in from the edge of the screen. He has sat the whole thing out, not even pressuring their defenders when they got involved. You can excuse rustiness, taking one touch too many when played in on the penalty spot for a poke in, and his hugely heavy touch when clean through, but you can't forgive a player with his history coming into a side like this and giving that lack of effort. I'd put Gray above him now. That's how **** he is.

I tend to agree but I think the psychology will depend on the individual players and managers.

I've read many times that some players hate going into a break after a loss (or a bad couple of draws like Brentford) as they just want to get out on the pitch and put the bad performance behind them. Now they will have time to dwell on it.

Equally we need to stay focused. I was pleased to hear Munoz say the same. We need to keep the high energy, focus and positivity going after the break.

Overall though, I think our rivals will benefit from, and want, a break now more than we will.

Most of the best routines are!

    1) Establish + isolate target area (in this case back-post)
    2) Block the marker of the target man to give target-man a free run (block executed perfectly in this case - commentators said that Chalobah lost his marker when Chalobah really had nothing to do with it, that was the job of the blockers)
    3) Hope the delivery is on point, if it is and the above has worked you'll have created a great chance.

3 steps that I basically use for every routine and that were all executed perfectly yesterday, top class work by the coaching team!

It's a mixed bag for us, nearly all of our defenders apart from Sierralta and the returning Kabasele will be off which could be a challenge, but assuming that Sarr's injury isn't too serious, it's a great opportunity for him to have a rare break. Brentford and Swansea have players who will also be jetting off around the world, so that'll be a challenge for them too

  24. You've put an unnecessary space before the comma after 'posts'. And after 'clean'. (Although that last sentence started with a preposition, which is not ideal.)

Edit: On reflection, I believe that the comma you have used is actually redundant.
Edit: On further reflection, the 'that' used in my last sentence is also redundant.

Cos the blockers (who were also being marked) basically created traffic in the path of Chalobahs marker making it incredibly hard to not run into anyone

It is en vogue to criticize zonal marking in favour of man to man
Chaloboah's goal is a great example of man to man failing
"Never seen "space" score a goal " they say
Well I've never seen someone lose their zone either

Genuine question but do you believe grammar pedantry means you are intelligent ?

In my experience it is used by people who are over compensating a lack of genuine intelligence with a pedantic obsession to grammar rules .

It is actually a form of snobbery and elitism , designed to separate those who have not had the fortune to have a good education .

Lastly, I wouldn’t flatter your ego by adorning the moniker of DCI . Somebody of that rank requires genuine intelligence . You would be a low ranking traffic cop at best .

Yes and no. He made the mistake of losing Chalobah and then trying to catch up with him by going through the middle of the ruck of players, which consisted of a mix of his team-mates and 'blockers'.

  30. Otter

He did make a mistake of taking too long to follow Chalobah, it's what made the move so brilliant that he had no other option than to run into the group, bumping into the teammate meant Chalobah was completely free by the time the ball got to him.

And to expand upon why grammar pedants rile me so.

My friend works in a development programme for kids from underprivileged backgrounds. I’ve met these kids and many of them are seriously smart , just in a non traditional academic manner because they have not been exposed to that environment .

Her biggest challenge in getting these young adults into good careers , is that these companies have “gatekeepers” who immediately filter out candidates because their CVS don’t present as well as kids from privelaged backgrounds . These gatekeepers use petty measurements like grammar instead of looking at the real qualities .

I also abhor elitist attitudes, like your grammar pedantry, because they are just another manifestation of bigotry.

Perhaps I’m over reacting , but snobbery is a personal bug bear of mine just like grammar pedantry is for you .

It’s like people who use the word Chav which I seem to recall you using. It’s a derogatory label used to denigrate a person judged upon a negative stereotype of a societal group .

We have enough bigotry in society without people like you adding to it as some kind of personal pastime .

    Sorry , rant over .
