Next Manager - Ivic Confirmed

I don't think they will EVER give a coach a say in transfers beyond the bare minimum. That is seemingly what they live to do themselves. That just seems a deal breaker in any negotiations with them I bet.

But I do wonder if this seasons travails MIGHT see them loosen their control on other matters and allow a coach more control over first team affairs and allow them to implement a style on the club. I think they have to and would be suicidal at this point not to.

One can hope.

 

I hope they don't go for a journeyman coach, you know the ones you always see on the 'next manager betting' sites. I think they need to spend some money on getting a high class coach. This would be a sensible investment. A quality coach attracts quality players and it sets an expectation. This is a direction we need to go in next season.

If things don’t change then we will be relegated next season, if not this one.

With Leeds coming up, I fully expect the FA, VAR etc to do all they can to keep MASSIVE LEEDS in the Prem after being away for 16 years. Plus they have a great manager, which helps.

I can’t see Leeds going down next season.

The other potential teams coming up, I can. Could be wrong but I think the runners up and play-off winners, go back down. Leaving one spot. Right now, with how we do things, that spot is ours.

Sheff Utd might have second season syndrome. Brighton will probably be back down there. If the Newcastle take over doesn’t happen, then I expect them to be a part of it. However if we stay in the Prem, I would put us finishing 18th next season if nothing changes.

I agree and I think he would have the necessary authority with the squad (football isn't for pussies after all), but it was reported yesterday that a former coach stated that the way the club was being run has changed (most likely QSF as who else would know how it was run before they arrived unless they had been there before) so he might not slot in as easily as he did in the championship club

Yes. But I think Gino was a bit blinded by Mazzarri as he was a coach that they always wanted in Italy and couldn't get. I'm not sure they really thought abut his suitability for English football/culture. No surprise that he went straight back to Italy for jobs really.

I don't think it's a case of just looking at a good manager and saying 'they want to come so lets give it to them' - they still have to be suitable in other ways even if you are giving them a big say in what's going on within the corridors of the club.

I genuinely think they thought they might have had it nailed with Silva when they hired him - but they couldn't quite see their way to loosening their grip as much as they maybe suggested to him they would. Then Everton came along and exposed the managers character flaws as well. As much as Gracia had a decent 12 months, is appointment also allowed the club to go back to their usual working ways, when I think the Silva appointment may have been them seeking to change. I think that's when this rot at the club really set in.

Depends on what you mean by a 'say' on transfers. I doubt many clubs these days allow a manager to specifically target all the players they want. I think as a club we will never change what we do in terms of the way we operate regarding transfers while Gino owns the club - but is there room for a coach to get more say? Potentially I'd say but it will still be a minority voice and not the decision maker.

Maybe I'm being a bit deluded late at night - but this time feels a bit different to me. I think we are seen as a true basket case by everyone and whereas before we could point to the league table etc, we can't do that now. I think this time, with all the things being said about how they run the club, it might actually (partially) get through to them and make them understand changes are needed. I think it might just be a vague loosening of power in reality whilst recruitment and Giraldi stay firmly in place but coaching matters etc are given a bit more autonomy with the coach.

 

Italian must surely be the best fit, they know how Italian owners work, they often have less say on transfers than English managers: Guidolin knows the Pozzos ways, Eusebio Di Francesco previously suggested, the wee but mighy Zola, Montella's sides play expansive possession football...

 

The odds literally haven't moved all day....if we are making moves behind the scenes, they are making them very quietly.

 

I think if Gino and Giraldi are determined to keep working as they are and insist the 'model' is fine, then an Italian is by far the most sensible way to go personally. Preferably one that has a basic grasp of the language this time however...

If we win tomorrow and Villa lose. Prem status secured, Gino will go all out to get his No.1 target and I’m sure we will see things start to happen.

Adam Leventhal said on from the rookery end pod that Watford are targeting a continental coach that plays expansive football but also liked to develop younger players.

 

I believe Watford is the only club where the bookies are considering offering a 'next manager dual forecast' - name the next two managers, in either order.

Maybe even a Trifecta ...

 

By some twist of fate if he came here and dropped Deeney he would be popular.

 

I wonder if Mark Van Bommel would be of interest to the Pozzos, likes a 4-3-3 and did well with PSV in 18/19.

Alternatively Gus Poyet was doing well with Bordeaux in his last stint before boardroom shenanigans led to him parting ways with them. Doesn't seem to mind a challenging environment to manage in.

At least both actually speak English which is a bonus.

 

A big If, but if we do survive then we need to throw money at the next appointment, whoever that maybe. Offer them considerably more than they are on / worth to get someone decent, with a longish contract. Not going to happen mind, we will go for another journeyman, on a short-term deal

 

And if we lose and AV win, as would be more likely, it's on to plan B .

 

David James has thrown his hat into the ring just now on Good Morning Britain.

He said there was a very recently available football management job he would be applying to - and I doubt it would be Huddersfield.

Can’t see him getting the job in a million years, unless he changes his name to Davide Giacomo and has manager in Serie D

 

That's a good sign. If we're going for high profile then it will be dependent on staying up. If we're going for a desperate out of work journeyman he'd be already here.
