Neither is that mostly the case in the places where cruise ship Tourists get robbed.

Your point about the original analogy doesn’t hold up. It’s different here, but valid.

True, cruise tours don't normally go to the third world, but it was Clive that said "3rd world street kid", not me.

In Moose's world anyone wearing a pair of matching socks is seen as 'flaunting their wealth'

True. My mind is engaged with higher things comrade.

I expect you have some nanny/wet nurse who has always sorted them for you.

Didn’t moped riding pizza delivery kids ram into Merkel’s front door? In Hampstead too.

Cruise ship tourists are robbed by the oppressors at Cunard & the one Rob Brydon advertises.

Do wet nurses also manage socks?

I thought their duties were, er, wetter.

    Jesus wept.

The suggestion that McIntyre is in any way to blame for being robbed because of the car he was driving, or the watch he was wearing is disturbing. It is similar to suggesting that a woman who wears attractive clothing and uses make-up is to blame for getting raped.

Some of you lot are just sick.

He should have covered up more and not flaunted his watch in front of red blooded theives. What did he think would happen driving in a prevocative fashion? The little tease.

I wasn't suggesting that at all, I just said I think he's a d*ck for flaunting his wealth, but that's a side issue.

Yesterday I visited a bank in Watford and withdrew £7500 in cash. They put it into a big envelope, (after several warnings that it was a lot of cash to carry around), which I stuffed into my front pocket and walked out. I was suspicious of everyone, deliberately doubled back on myself a couple of times to see if I was being followed and was generally on edge the whole way home, (I never lock the car doors but did yesterday). As soon as I was able to hand over the cash to my builder I let out a huge sigh of relief. It wasn't until after that little trip that I realised that McIntyre wore the equivalent of double that on his wrist, permanently. Why would you do that?

Maybe, but if it is a side issue why raise it as your first response to him getting mugged? If I remember correctly there are one or two posters on here that admitted to owning a Rolex.

I think that most people would know that he is very wealthy. Do you suggest he picks his kids up wearing a balaclava pushing a wheelbarrow?

..and I find him funny, not least because he is non political and genuinely seems a nice "normal" bloke. who is happy to take the mickey out of himself.

Many "comics" merely make snidey, often incorrect, sarcastic, and almost certainly, exaggerated comments about politicians or other public figures, who have no chance to defend themselves, reply or correct, at the time - and they think that's funny. Sometimes it is funny, but it is still an cowardly way to make a living.

Paying cash to builders so they can avoid paying tax on their earnings? Disgraceful abuse of the system. No wonder the NHS is on its knees

I can't bear him. Totally unfunny. Horrible whiney voice which constantly sounds like he's trying not to laugh at his own joke. Horrible constant smug smile. I turn off whatever program he is on to prolong the life of my TV. Irritating little twerp.

When you put it like that, I agree, he should have been put down at birth.

So you think that political satire, which is centuries old and which is often instrumental in political change, is cowardly?

Yes, some of it is. I saw it likened once to shitting in someones bed, and then running away.

But being cowardly that doesn't mean it isn't sometimes funny and certainly doesn't mean it should be banned or censored. That would only come into play, I am sure, if the majority of comedians were more right wing.

Which couldn’t really ever be the case in relation to satire, unless we have some sort of communist state, as satire is by definition anti-establishment.

I would say it is actually the bravest form of humour in that it pokes fun at those with power who are in a position to clamp down on it.

Not sure I suggested he should be "put down at birth" but on the basis it would save my TV remote batteries a little, I'm happy to go along with that.

But not in our country, the establishment wouldn't want to clamp down on it.

Now, if Corbo, Moose and his cronies ever get in....?

Of course, there is a general drive to clamp down on humour, in some areas, by the self appointed guardians of our morals. For example sexist humour from female comedians when men are the target is quite acceptable, but not if it is a man comic targeting women.

By the way, I disagree on your definition of satire, it is anti-anything the comic chooses, I suggest.

I assume the Clive and Moose will be jumping all over this for you facilitating potential tax evasion? likely not as the builder doesn’t have a big watch so it’s okay :)

I was admittedly thinking more of historical examples, and totalitarian countries, rather than “Mock the Week” or “Spitting Image”.

Do I need a name check in every post in this thread?

For the record, I’m certainly not for robbery or tax evasion nor for a crackdown on satire. In fact there are many on here who could certainly use a sense of humour injection.

It should be noted btw that it is perfectly possible to pay for things with cash and get a receipt.

True quite common to pay a builder 8k in cash in brown envelope and ask for a receipt. I imagine George Graham issued a receipt for the Pal Lyderson bung as well.

I believe the phrase 'shitting in someones bed, and then running away' to which ZZ refers is often used by Sky pundit, Paul Merson.
But ZZ misquotes Merson slightly. Merson actually says: "Running down a glass mountain wearing moccasin slippers to get away from someone whose bed you've just shat in" and usually uses it to describe a dull game

Tut tut gents, to assume my builder avoids tax is pretty poor form. Every payment on my little project is made by bank transfer. This single cash payment is for him to get the materials which "apparently" is much more reliable when doing cash on delivery. In his own words, "materials tend to turn up on time and in the right amount when paying CoD, which is never the case when paying online".

After my recent experiences with Amazon I totally believe him.
