Not sure he's injury prone - but he's had a couple of nasty ones in the past - 3 of which have kept him out for half a seaon each. And a cruciate back in 2010. Seems to have been pretty clear of injuries in recent years though. Had a 3/4 year spell at Newcastle where he didn't play much at all due to injuries.
If I think about Quina's performances this season, the first thing that comes to mind is an image of him sat on the floor looking confused as some Championship clogger has levered him off the ball firmly but fairly. The second is him taking four or five touches, ignoring a simple pass that would keep an attack moving forward and then trying a more difficult one. Could just about see him in a three man central midfield with Doucoure and Capoue as bodyguards, no chance you can play him in a two in the Championship and he's not as effective out wide as Sema or Sarr.
Sorry what? We have had U23's on the bench all season - and in increasing numbers in recent weeks. Yet they clearly aren't trusted to play any part at all. No way at all the squad 'desperately needs trimming down'.
Ok, trimming down of egos and bad attitudes would have been more accurate. A few have gone already which is positive.
If you mean players from the U23 squad list then no, the increase is minimal (1) in the last two games. It's been a steady 4 or 5 for a while. The last time a league game had more than one outfield U23 squad player was away at Swansea (Dalby, Hungbo, Crichlow) + Garner from the 1st team squad. Since then; Huddersfield at home, 0 (Parkes, Garner, Ngakia + Wilmot from the 1st team squad) Barnsley at home, 0 (Parkes, Garner, Ngakia + Wilmot from the 1st team squad) Stoke away, 1, Crichlow (Parkes, Garner, Ngakia + Wilmot from the 1st team squad) Millwall away, 1, Hungbo (Parkes, Garner, Ngakia + Wilmot from the 1st team squad) And the 2 U23s (Hungbo & Crichlow) are players who play wide right and wide left, where we do have enough 1st team cover on the bench. They'll never get on the pitch. You're right about young players not being trusted though.
WTF why has Quina gone out on loan, he has looked one of our better youngsters when given a chance and unless we bring in another couple or decent players, then we will be incredibly short on cover for the first team. Maybe these youngsters we have been concentrating on hoovering up are going to be utilised in the first team: - namely - Pochettino, Bergkamp and that young striker we bought a couple weeks back, perhaps they are considered by us good enough to play in the Championship, who knows?
I agree VOR, I understand he's a little too fussy regarding his ball distribution, but, alas, he was a future star in our (and Fifa 21) eyes
And a striker worth the description... If not I can only form the view that the last 4 months paying Deeney's & Gray's wages have emptied the piggy bank even more than feared; with the need to keep paying them for who knows how much longer wiping out any future revenues.
Easy, just go 4-2-4. It's not as if Championship teams will be able to drive a bus through the centre is it?
Strikers that actually score goals cost money. Good young loan strikers from the PL will cost wages and fees. None of those things are available whilst the club has the mindset that we have the best strikers in the division. Which when said, included Glenn Murray.
I know, I made the same point yesterday. You didn't really need to add something not strictly true to make it, that's all. You said elsewhere today one of Duxbury's maxims at the fans forum was to have a more youthful side - or words to that extent - yet that's not really happening. Unless Zinckernagel, Sierralta & Troost-Ekong are the ones bringing the average age down? Not really what we were sold or envisioned when the likes of Ngakia & Quina were running around like Duracell bunnies in pre-season!
I think you meant to say "best-PAID strikers in the division". Hence why it seems we'll get no-one worthwhile coming in.
In my opinion, Quina was a better player than Garner, so once he was back from his injury, he could have stepped in to fill that squad place.
The key with Quina was never play him too far back. He’ll inevitably pirouette the ball straight to an attacker at least 5 times a game, when he’s played more offensively he’s a good option but a liability further back.
Quina's injury is a hamstring correct ? If so i would suggest that perhaps the move to Granada is to help it heal better in a warmer climate - I would suggest its a short term loss so he can build himself up, sort his hamstring out in better climate, less intense football etc. Playing over here in the cold and intensity of the championship may be too much of a risk to his hamstrings and therefore we wouldn't play him - just a thought
Quina is one of the most skilful players we have. But he doesn't seem to be the brightest spark in the bonfire. He needs a lot of good coaching. He's not going to get long-term one-to-one coaching at this club. Playing him in the defensive half of the pitch at first team level was dangerous because of his style and capacity to over-elaborate and make mistaken choices. Only playing him as an attacking mid-fielder made sense to me. A disappointing development, I think. But he's not the first exciting player to fall foul of the relentless, physical efficiency of the Championship.
just a guess ...... I've not read the thread completely so if I am repeating or stating the bleeding obvious my apologies. I am just trying to fathom a reason for such an odd decision (not that im surprised) ... sure he is lightweight - but he can carry the ball and commit players which is what we need in my opinion
Contract expires in 2022 so I wouldn't be surprised if he never plays for us again. I'd say he's unlikely to sign a new deal so we will 'cash-in' this summer.
We signed and played this guy in the premier league didn’t we? And now we’re loaning him out whilst battling for mid table in the championship. Another pozzo master class
Spot on. Quina has always had ambitions to play in La Liga, therefore making it easy for the club to shift him to Granada in hope he plays and does enough to generate interest over there come the summer. Shame as I honestly thought he'd become one of our main players this season.
Hi TVOR. Quina has been crap this season. In other news, we've been relegated and are now in the midst of a global pandemic. Hope you enjoyed your sleep?
