    Again I’m okay with this.
    We are a championship side.

sending him out to a league he is more suited too (he is lightweight) makes more sense than some clogger hoofing him here.

mid he comes good he comes back for the prem if we go up

With Watford fans it seems to be we aren’t happy with the players but when they go that’s also bad.

    throw! Don’t take, only throw

For the same reason the reaction to the Gosling signing far outweighs what Gosling offers us

Judging these transfers in isolation is a cop out, its the never ending pattern which fans are rightly fed up with

I'm a Watford fan and I'm VERY happy he's going.

    He's not gonna make it.

Xisco saying Garner has to be patient just hours before his loan being mutually terminated was just deliciously inept. Bloke is blatantly kept in the dark about 90% of goings-on.

Well I don’t see the equivalence. Unless you are saying that his signing was a master stroke, a player who was going to have the impact of a Richardson or Pedro. I would say he was a punt; a player that we had the potential to make some money on.
He was a young player not good enough for West Ham to offer him a contract he thought he was worth. We took a chance offered him the money he wanted.

In two premier league seasons with us he made 12 appearances. He has not shown, (IMHO), this year that his is an automatic first eleven player.

I dont think if he was playing every game we would be in a better position in the league. Do you?

I don’t see why a player can’t be a square beg in a championship squad, and could go on loan to an overseas league, which may better suit him, to increase his value by playing or just getting fitter and stronger in the sunshine.

What would increase his value, both as a future Watford squad player or as a £sale; not contributing at Watford or going to Spain?

I would not have been that bothered if we sold him for a fair price either. Maybe the loan is with the option to buy.

Why would he not contribute for Watford? Made 14 appearances before injury. And since then Capoue and Garner both gone.

I think most fans would not have an issue with Quina leaving if we had enough cover.

There is of course a chance Manchester United had a say in Garners leaving and the timing was just **** on the part of Xisco.

I haven't copped out though have I IRB? I've repeatedly stated another body is needed if he goes, I just don't think he or another attacking midfielder is needed at the moment. Surely it's far better to add another one or two to Chalobah, Cleverley, Hughes & Gosling to play across the middle? If he's fit and still fancied in any way, shape or form then Phillips is a bench filler for that deeper position.

That I've stated I don't think Quina is anywhere good enough seems to have ruffled feathers but it's just an opinion, informed or otherwise, but I just don't see how he'll be missed. He hasn't been since he last played.

The overall transfer situation is a mess it seems but has it ever been different with this lot in charge?

I don’t think he was particularly effective in those 14 games. I think it’s a fair comparison with Garner, and he was not that great in games he played either IMHO. If Hughes had been fit at the start of the campaign, I doubt Quina would have made as many starts as he did.

I think even though you and @Jumbolina came at it from very different angles, I think you both broadly actually are on the same wavelength.

Quina played 50-60% of games before his injury and was poor. But he did play. And he does offer more attacking traits than those other names who play centrally.

He was obviously regarded higher than Phillips and Hungbo - the minutes he played prove that so losing him will have a bigger impact than if we lost those 2. If they were loaned out, I doubt they’d even get takers in league football - whereas Quina is wanted by a top half La Liga side who are in Europe.

Quina is expendable on what he’s shown so far - but only if another player with his traits comes in. We don’t need more who play across the middle - I can’t agree with that.
It’ll be madness to let him go without signing someone else with attacking traits.

Another caveat is Quina looked poor - but under Ivic, and at times being asked to play out of position due to Ivic’s tactics. They clearly weren’t compatible. I’m yet to really see Xisco be an attacking coach - but he and Quina haven’t even worked together yet before he‘a packed off.

I don’t think Quina will be replaced. I think Zinckernagel is taking his spot in the squad and the belief that we don’t need depth will continue.

Hughes would have played instead of Garner surely? And Cleverley would have been rested more.

Hughes and Quina don’t have the same traits. Quina was often played out of position in his defence.

Barring injuries, I don't see him gatting a great many games here. He's athletic, aggressive and has a big leg. Where IMO he's been lacking is putting things on target (passes or shots). A run of games in a league where he's not gettign hit as much might help him polish his skills. Let him compete for a spot next year, or sell him. One thing is certain, his value was not likely to increase this season.

Much as the signing of Gosling is very underwhelming, I have no problem in letting Quina go at the moment. He is not consistent or strong enough
and the loan move will hopefully free up a space for a better midfielder in the squad.

Domingos Quina will play for Granada. The 21-year-old Portuguese midfielder is the one chosen to strengthen the rojiblancos' midfield. The agreement for its transfer by Watford, from the Championship (English Second Division) has been finalized and only bureaucratic procedures and medical examination remain, according to sources.

I remember him having his first run in the side under Gracia, where his main fault was his decision making. Pretty normal for a teenager. Carried the ball well, very positive, could switch play and could strike it well from outside the box.

He then spent a year watching on as the whole team sucked and lost. His cup appearances he looked a bit over-eager to impress, but played well and showed his talents again (he was a class above Chalobah against Coventry, Swansea and Tranmere (H)).

When we went down, the only thing I could console myself with was young players like Quina and Wilmot would get a chance. We could feel that pride that I haven’t really experienced since Sean Murray of watching a young players grow and demonstrate enough to make us dream they could go to the top.

This season has been very disappointing in that regard. Still Foster in goal for the most part, still Femenia/Masina at full back (despite Ngakia being close to faultless imo), Kabasele/Cathcart starting the season as our CBs, Cleverley, Deeney, Gray...

I can acknowledge that, using my earlier examples, Wilmot and Quina weren’t our best performers. The head coach needs wins now and can’t afford to allow players time to develop. But Wilmot looked really good when played in a 2 around xmas/new year. Then got dropped.
Quina was also starting to improve before his hamstring injury. I think again he’d wanted to do too much at the start, to make himself undroppable, and he was just starting to settle. Cleverley/Chalobah are so dull. There’s no drive from midfield. Safe, backwards passing, never beating a man. Quina gave us that. His performances were still a bit ‘meh’ but he was on an upward trajectory and having seen him more than hold his own as a teenager, in the Premier League, I’m convinced he could be a proper player for us in the Championship. But no. He’s off. Instead we have another 30+, hard-working, limited player. Because that’s just what we need.

    I’m fed up.

True, myself and Jumbolina were vaguely agreeing.
My point over Quina being missed as much as Phillips & Hungbo was poorly made and probably has better meaning when all three have been out of the side. There was never a clamour to have any one of them put in the side simply because they aren't good enough to affect games at the moment. Anyway, that ground has been well and truly trod so I won't continue.

The bit I don't understand or agree with in your post is the attacking cover.
Sema, Zinckernagel, Sarr & JP can fight for two wide spots. Success (I know, but he's a body at the club so has to be counted) can be seen as third reserve out there along with Hungbo and Crichlow if injuries really hit home. I don't see how a club with our limited budget can justify anymore experienced bodies in this area.

Where we don't really have cover or numbers are the three central positions. 4 experienced players and Phillips means we're really short there still and that's why I think at least one more player of similar standard or better, preferably two, to Chalobah, Cleverley, Hughes & Gosling has to come in. In my eyes we need Capoue's cover/replacement and a body to replace Quina because the academy cupboard is truly bare.

And a forward. My god we need a forward. Grey, Perica & Deeney with Success floating about as cover there too is just too depressing for words. JP if he's not deployed out wide. Please don't upset yourself by looking at the academy for back up here either, there's nothing.

When I say a player with attacking traits, I mean a centre-midfielder, not a wide player. We don’t have a CM who carries the ball centrally between midfield and attack - this is Quina’s best position as that’s where he played in youth football and also where he excelled when he first broke through here under Gracia. The latter version of Quina is one that has been shunted out wide and played in a defensive system by Ivic. We don’t need to replace that.

Obviously I’m not suggesting Grealish/Mount/Maddison literally - but we need a player with that style of play. Someone who can pick the ball up in the middle of the pitch and advance with it 15-20 yards and then look to link with wide attackers and strikers. We don’t have anyone who does this despite some claiming Hughes can - he doesn’t and that’s the point. Zinckernagel I think could possibly do this I guess but I don’t think he’s been brought in to do that. And I’m worried that Xisco hasn’t started him yet and says he still needs time - despite his stats in Norway just a month ago. He should have been thrown in by now.

We have enough sideways and back merchants, who exclusively recycle the ball with 5-yard passes, as it is. We don’t need to add one more.

Letting Quina go and replacing him with another CM of that ilk will just hold us back even more in an attacking sense.

By accident or design we seem to have set our stall out to be creative out wide and resolute through the middle though.
I agree a ball carrier would be ideal but I can't see one coming in now, there doesn't seem to be a feel for that type coming in.

Maybe if Deeney wasn't Deeney, Quina could have had a chance to play in that deeper role he's now occupying, interchanging with the wide players even. But yeah, that was never happening.

You're right before about Quina only playing under Ivic too, I meant to add that before.
Both Quina and Garner were hampered by him and the absolute lack of movement offered to them by players in forward positions. No player, however talented, is going to find incisive passes to forwards who are static.

For all of their transfer (mis)dealings, the appointment of Ivic and his subsequent affect on the squad has been one of the worst decisions the Pozzo's and Duxbury have made.

Quina hasn't really done anything exceptionally good this season but WTF! Who the flying fook is making these decisions?
It's not if Cleverly or Gosling pick up injuries, it's when Then what happens. I forgot Wilmot can do a job in midfield.

I can only assume, rightly or wrongly, that there is the feeling internally that he won't be getting any game time soon. If that is the case then hopefully he will get minutes at Granada (probably no less minutes than he would with us, if we are not planning to play him), but I suspect more importantly that they will be paying his wages. I would guess this is cost driven rather than developmental for a player we don't expect to be playing for us.

I agree he is one of the few we have that actually could be exciting as an attacking midfielder but at the moment we are playing with two in there and frankly he isn't up to that (that said we know a new coach who plays a 3 could arrive at any moment), we are going with solid two and hoping for flair from out wide. In a 3 under Ivic he had his moments but was very hit and miss, being further forward we could live with loss of possession more than we can with only two in there.

I hope he goes there, does well, and comes back too good to drop, he certainly appears to have the talent, but not many of our loans have managed that so I guess we'll never see him again, good luck to the lad and stay away from lockdown parties!
