U23s lost 0-2 to QPR today, most notable for the return of Kabasele. I don't know how Kabs played, I would understand if he were a bit rusty, but it's not a good reflection on Lazaar and Navarro...
Kane Crichlow scored 3 goals in his first 2 appearances for Bermuda. 1 on his debut against Canada and 2 last night against Aruba. Second goal wasn't bad https://twitter.com/BERMEMES/status/1377073853541842945?s=19
U23's lost 2-1 to an England U17 side at St. George's Park a couple days ago. https://uk.soccerway.com/matches/20...endlies/england-under-17/watford-u23/3482741/
Only because we scored for them! B.Lawal has probably achieved every school boys dream. Netting for the National side.
He's been on the bench a few times of late for us hasn't he? Late sub against Newport IIRC, be nice if we could have another young lad knock on the door of the first team
Just been reading about a lad called Kamil Conteh who captained our under 18's to a 4-1 win over QPR yesterday. I was wondering if he is another addition to our flock of sons of famous fathers, as there was a very good British Boxer called John Conteh who was a light heavyweight (I think) who graced the boxing rings a few years back. We also seem to be doing very well of late at U18 level and hopefully some of these guys might get a crack at the 1st team before the end of the season as long as promotion is already sealed of course. Maybe someone who is more up to date with these kids could update us all about which ones are looking the part and maybe be ready to step up a level to the U23's or even the 1st team.
I'm just lazy, but, does anyone know how Mitchel Bergkamp is doing? I know he was a sub vs the u17's, but is he any good?
True enough. My brother became a father at 50 and Charlie Chaplin at 80 I think?! FA Youth Cup v Toon at 2pm today.
Credit to the U18s for trying to play out from the back but it hasn't gone well in the first 5 minutes and they've just given away an extremely cheap goal.
Played very well in this half. Lo Everton great on the ball finding the passes and distributing . Hunter with his speed. Galvez and Abbott both calm as anything and technically neat. Marriott some nice saves and Forde unlucky with a couple of efforts. Extra time it is.
Yes certainly taken the game to them and SBLE has taken control of the game. They all interchange well I think.
The idiot who came on as sub and immediately gave away a cheap free kick on the edge of the area should have his contract ripped up
That's cruel. Great free kick but a daft foul to concede. They played well and hopefully will gain a lot of confidence from their collective and individual performances.
Bit harsh IRB. The lad's just turned sixteen. Just hope he does not do that again. Most of the time the free kick would have sailed over the bar. Marriot denied his chance in the sun. Still some promising talents in this side. No Janjeva either or Langston as well.
I thought so too. Sport is cruel. The young man/boy who conceded that free kick will dwell on that moment for some time.
Indeed so reids. The Recluse (sadly still no sign of him and we all hope he is well) said Andy had been injured earlier in the season with a long term season issue. Cannot remember for the life of me what it was though. I think it was mentioned by The Recluse earlier in this thread but I don't know on which page. Which is an almighty shame as he was progressing nicely last season.
Disappointing to get knocked out in such a manner, it appeared a pretty even game overall. The general quality of our players seemed the highest for this level that I can recall, though that's still not to say that any of them will buck the recent trend and make it to the first team. Lo-Everton was our top performer and demonstrated why he's highly regarded. His dribbling was particularly noteworthy and he was always looking to get involved and showing himself for the ball. I'd thought he was supposedly a #10, so the fact that he seemed very comfortable in more of a #8 central midfield role and also displayed good defensive and tackling ability was a positive surprise. Only slight criticism is that sometimes his passing lacked a bit of crispness and conviction, but he still played a few decent through-balls. A loan to League One or League Two could be a good idea for him next season. The LB Tomas Galvez seemed promising, especially given he was our youngest player. Had a touch of Kiko about him, being very energetic going forwards with good technical ability, though a bit lax defensively at times. Cukur showed some touches of class, though I wonder if he lacks a bit of pace and agility. He held the ball up well but struggled to make room to get shots away in a crowded penalty box. Lawal also impressed, he seemed rapid as well as composed on the ball. Supposedly he's more of a DM, whereas he played CB in this match, and it showed in some of his positioning, but regardless of which position he ends up in he seems to have a good level of ability to build upon. Forde and Thompson were both disappointments though given some of the praise they appear to have been getting. Thompson was completely mia when on the pitch and Forde regularly gave the ball away with some terrible, rushed passing. Probably the most developed player on the pitch was Newcastle's Anderson, and it's not a surprise that he's already made his first team debut for them. There wasn't much too flash about his game, but he seemed to have solid all-round ability and rarely wasted a pass. Good free kick as well for the winning goal, though a senior keeper probably saves it.
