I don’t doubt it. We weren’t good enough all over last season to stay up, and aren’t good enough all over this season to go up other than our defence.
Yes that’s right. Put 2 up against 3 and then slate them when they are overloaded. We saw today all the reasons why 442 is outdated and ineffective. Don’t be surprised when its the same again next week.
Anyone needing a laugh. Statement from Gray on 20th November Watford Football Club @WatfordFC “If I play every game from now, I will score goals. I believe in myself that much. I know where the net is, I just need that consistency of playing games and I’ll prove my worth. I’ve never doubted myself in this league.”
The fact remains he is paid to score goals. Sure strikers have bad patches, lack of confidence and other issues. Most do not have the issue that they find controlling the ball an issue.
This is your problem and a few others in the forum. You are so fixated with his footballing faults (and yes I am aware he has a few), anything positive he does is either lucky, a fluke, or whatever other words you care to use. I am not like that and am pleased that I am not.
I agree that he should be scoring soon particularly away from home. Him and Deeney both. I replied to another forum member recently saying the same.
You are exactly right . Football is about creating overloads in all areas of the pitch That said I wouldnt get too hung up on formations Liverpool , for example , use 4-3-3 so you would expect them to get overrun in midfield . However this is not the case as Ferminio drops back to make the 4/diamond whilst the full backs push on and are the attacking width thus the midfield 3 can move around the pitch as a unit linking up with full backs\Ferminio\Strikers With our 2 up top we have serious problems on the overload front
'A few' - yeah, he 'positively' badly miscontrolled the ball, allowing it to bounce off him and then a defender exactly as he cunningly planned. Nothing 'lucky' or 'a fluke' about that. Honestly, you are delusional.
So as a fan wanting to see the club do well it is quite alright that someone who is paid a decent wage cannot do the job they are being paid for ? It's a pity instead of partying and breaking rules designed to protect his team mates, club staff and the population at large he cannot work on improving himself in the areas where he is deficient ? Anything positive he has done recently has been as you described it has been by luck rather than design. If he was a limited player like Fitzgerald was when he came in from Northwood then I certainly would not be taking this position knowing that he was playing at that level initially for a reason. I also blame the ownership for splashing out so much money for such a limited player who is only getting worse looking at his performances. As HB1 has proffered he thinks he is better than he is. A shame the effort he puts into his social media platform is not put in on the training pitch such as extra practice on how to strike a football.
Another pathetic performance. I can’t remember being so angry at a team as this one. Even in the ****** 70s & 90s there was effort and endeavour with limited ability but losing was never as painful as it is now with these players. We obviously are not good enough for promotion in a really poor Championship. 2021 is going to be worse than last year unless the owner offloads the players who repeatedly put in brain dead performances like today. Munez must have hoped the honeymoon was longer but it’s glaringly obvious he is not the problem.
https://mobile.twitter.com/izindi/status/1345427094340300800 I feel sorry for Gray. Trying to play football with this on his mind has got to be difficult. Not surprised he was off today.
He is not a fraud . I am not his biggest fan either . I can see his limitations However his transfer fee\wages is down to someone else. If someone offered me £80k a week to shank the ball over the bar I would snap their hand off. Who wouldn't .
How do you know what he works on at the training ground? And yes he was a donut for breaking the rules, as I understand it some Spurs players broke rules over Xmas as well so I guess we have donuts dotted about in football. And social media is common in this world, not sure what that has to do with anything. Deeney does a fair bit of media in general for example, and he isn't exactly banging them in.
They're still about albeit smaller, mind you everything seems bigger when you're younger. My father-in-law polishes them off with Deeney-esque elan.
The problem isn't Deeney or Gray. The problem isn't Foster or Chalobah or Garner. The problem isn't Xisco. The problem starts and ends with Gino. He is the owner and he spends the money. He has to correct this malaise now or find a buyer because his way isn't working.
You reckon? I genuinely expect Deeney to get a new deal given he only has 6 months left. And they will see Gray as a monetary asset. Given his age, I think there’s zero chance they will let him walk out the door for free. It’s not in their DNA.
You’d have to be mad to buy a football club in this current climate. You’d have to be certifiable for that club to be Watford right now.
Yeah, remember those people that said Holebas only got a new contract to make sure we got a fee for him. Yeah, remember those people that said Janmatt only got a new contract to make sure we got a fee for him. Lol.
I may have overdone the Christmas cheer but for the first half hour and last 20/25 minutes today I thought we looked pretty good. Of course, Deeney and Gary are a pair of ******* - but we've known that for a long time. Sirellta and Wilmot looked good and Femenia didn't deserve to be on the losing side. Xisco's like-for-like substitutions were a bit underwhelming but I'm prepared to give it another couple of games before demanding his sacking. A disappointing result but there's a long, long way to go yet.
That is THE question. What exactly does he do, as someone who will be 30 next birthday, on the training ground . Finishing-technique ? You would have thought so wouldn't you ?
I had a Fruit club once where one tiny corner was biscuit and the rest was solid chocolate. Yum, yum, yum.
I refuse to believe they can be that stupid. They have surely learned from the Cathcart, Janmaat, Britos and Prodl extensions that sometimes it is best just to move on rather than clog up the wage budget. Actually thinking about it they just gave Cleverly a completely unnecessary extension so you might be right. It really would be the final straw though and any doubt about their incompetence would be removed.
And Britos. He was to be loaned out, earn a fee and then be sold for a million according to the sages on here. Gino knows what he is doing.
You still have doubts despite the coach appointment? Feels like there's a COG in there struggling to rotate.
He can't correct it. It's too late and we have too many high earners that are non entities. We don't have the financial clout to write contracts off. There'll be no rebuild until players like Gray, Deeney and Chalobah run their contracts down - no-one is going to take them off our hands. The best outcome would be to somehow fluke promotion and do a Norwich and just accept relegation straightaway for longer term stability. We wouldn't just need a new team if we went up and wanted to stay up, we'd need pretty much a whole new squad.
