Richarlison started games right up until he left, but then he was never a striker for us - always a winger/wide forward.
Summer 2021 will be 5 years since he signed his mega deal. Everyone was saying it was a 5 year contract at the time he signed it.
Well, Richarlison made 41 appearance for us in his one season here, only ever didn't start 6 of those (one being his first ever game here) and played a full 90 minutes in two of his last three matches - all as a 20-year-old in his first season ever outside Brazil. So, in fairness, your narrative about Deeney somehow driving him into the ground is basically fiction.
I didnt say that. I said Richarlison referred to Deeney being a potential problem for JP. However I'd like to know why Richarlison's form collapsed the way it did. Wild inconsistancy from players has been such a common occurance in the last 5 years. It's really weird. The situation with Sarr exemplifies this. Why can't he perform consistantly for us? He's one of the most talented players we've ever had. Was he this inconsistent at Rennes? would he be at liverpool? I very much doubt it. So what's so wrong with our dressing room?
Sarr did struggle I think but that is a club issue - not down to the players . Since he came we have had 4 managers - 3 of which didn’t use him properly , been relegated, he has been injured and of course COVID! It would be no wonder if Sarr has looked a bit down and miserable.
I'm pretty that's the current situation. The dressing room is unmanagable with Troy in it. The club has obviously chosen to appoint a manager who will submit to Troy. The captain is publically sniping at a superior striker who should be starting in his position. The player's are chronically under performing under Troy's 'leadership'. The fault lies with Gino and Scott for allowing this to happen but the only cure is the removal of Deeney.
You literally just said this: But regardless of the very true nature of that truth, I've said a little earlier in this thread that I think Deeney is an unhelpful influence in the dressing room, and that his status is a negative in the way the club runs, but as with many others I don't see why we have to be grasping at far-fetched conspiracy theories by twisting anything even vaguely connected to or said about him, and misrepresenting actual facts about players' experiences. Apart from anything else, we're talking about young, mercurial players, away from home for the first time. It's no surprise whatsoever that they would take time to both adapt and become consistent on the pitch, if they ever even do. Don't ignore the very relevant context just because it suits your argument.
Capoue specifically referred to Sarr having problems with the way he was treated by some players. On top of that Mane felt he had to intervene.
You're mixing up what Richarlison said and my comment on Richarlison losing form. These are 2 separate issues. One is a from the horses mouth quote. The other is the opinion of a fan. The hard evidence is what Deeney has said publically about Perica and Richarlison saying Deeney could be a problem for JP plus Capoue's comments and Mane's intervention. The rest is just my opinion as a watford fan. I think Im right, if you disagree thats fine. I respect your views and in any case you do seem to broadly agree with me about Deeney's negative influence and impact on the club for which I salute you.
So it could have been any player and there was probably an issue with the language barrier. If anything Sarr played better when Deeney returned and Pearson arrived . I suspect the issue was we had 2 managers who didn’t play him and he was injured . Anyway the general point that we need to look at other options is true - be it getting the other strikers fit or getting some in even on loan .
Fair enough. But is that like at Everton where they have Calvert Lewin up front or do they play 2 up top?
Sarr played better during the Pearson honeymoon. He was poor during the run in when our manager was once again losing the dressing room. No doubt being undermined by others around him. The same old cycle again and again. Groundhog day WFC style.
Sorry meant do they use him as a wide player like we did with DCL up on his own like we had with Deeney etc and Richarlison out wide ? Not sure but here it says 2022 .. http://wfcforums.com/index.php?threads/player-contracts.37783/
The same Richarlison we signed for £11m and sold for £50m? Not bad for a player who was made worse by Deeney.
Probably because none of them wanted to come back and re start so thee wasn’t that motivation and and readiness to get going .
He's played almost equally at left wing and centre forward for Everton, so far, with a small smattering of right wing and second striker to round it out.
There are a growing number of Everton fans growing frustrated with Richarlison and his inconsistent performances, in fact a lot of them feel he hasn't turned up at all this season. Is that still down to the Deeney effect do you think?
Well we had Gracia and Flores who didn’t fancy him and he was injured for a time . Pearson definitely got the best out of him . And naturally having no English meant he had trouble settling and Capoue as a French speaking player was the one to support him .
Having just looked into it further, it seems that Ancelotti has used him almost exclusively as a left winger this season (except for attacking mid cameos) and almost exclusively as a centre forward last season - presumably something to do with DCL's maturation in that central position.
Is that against forum rules? Apologies if so. Back to the question. Do you feel Richarlison being inconsistent at Everton is down to Deeney?
I've seen some things in my time. But Watford fans quoting Everton fans to back up their opinions? I never thought I'd see the day!!
Well they had to be submitted to the EFL for FFP compliance (even though we were in the PL to June 20) in December but they have until end March to file at CRO. When previously in EFL they were always filed in November or December but once in PL we never filed before end Feb at the earliest but always by end March. I wonder if they will be filed after Feb 1st at the earliest so as not to show the financial picture whilst we are negotiating potential sales during the transfer window As an aside the accounts (for the club not the holding company where the external debt sits) used to be on the Watford fc website under the ownership tab but when trying to open them now nothing is there.
